Abstract: The distance between a discrete or passive electrical component and an electrical semiconductor device and substrate or carrier is minimized by shortening the lead length connections of the passive component. One or more passive electronic components are mounted within the body of a carrier or board by creating a cavity in the substrate or carrier that is directly below a semiconductor device. The passive component is electrically connected to the substrate and device using solder bump technology resulting in much shorter lead length connections to and from the passive component.

Abstract: A vertically mountable semiconductor device assembly including a semiconductor device and a mechanism for attaching the semiconductor device to a carrier substrate. The semiconductor device has each of its bond pads disposed proximate a single edge thereof. Preferably, at least a portion of the semiconductor device is exposed. An alignment device is attached to a carrier substrate. A mounting element on the vertically mountable semiconductor device package engages the alignment device to interconnect the semiconductor device and the alignment device. Preferably, the alignment device secures the vertically mountable semiconductor device package perpendicular relative to the carrier substrate. The distance between the bond pads and corresponding terminals on the carrier substrate is very small in order to reduce impedance. The vertically mountable semiconductor device package may also be readily user-upgradable.

Abstract: A sheet such as a polymeric dielectric has elongated lead regions partially separated from the main region of the sheet by gaps in the sheet, and has conductors extending along the lead regions. The lead regions are connected to contacts on a microelectronic element, and the microelectronic element is moved away from the main region of the sheet, thereby bending the lead regions downwardly to form leads projecting from the main region of the sheet.

Abstract: According to the present invention, when a wiring layer using copper is formed, an interlayer insulation film is formed on a semiconductor substrate having a conductive portion of an element. A contact hole, which is connected to at least the conductive portion, is formed in the interlayer insulation film. A wiring groove is formed in the surface of the interlayer insulation film including a region where the contact hole is formed. A barrier metal having a tungsten carbide film on its surface is formed on the surface of the interlayer insulation film and in the wiring groove and contact hole in contact with the conductive portion. A copper film is then formed on the barrier metal in contact with the tungsten carbide film. After that, the contact hole and wiring groove are completely filled with the copper film by heat treatment. An excess portion is removed from the copper film except in the contact hole and wiring groove thereby to form a copper buried wiring layer.

Abstract: The present invention provides a structure for a semiconductor device, capable of eliminating the generation of defective products due to poor connection. In the present semiconductor device, an n-type high concentration diffusion layer 2 is selectively formed on the P-type silicon substrate 1, and on the diffusion layer 2, a silicon oxide film 3 is formed as a first interlayer insulating film 3. A silicon plug 4 is disposed on the n-type high concentration diffusion layer 2. On the top end surface of the polysilicon plug 4, a silicide pad 5 is formed in a self-aligning manner such that the width of the silicide pad 5 is larger than that of the polysilicon plug 4. A second interlayer insulating film is formed so as to cover the first interlayer insulating film 3 and the silicide pad 5, and a tungsten plug 7 is disposed on the silicide pad 5. On the second interlayer insulating film, wiring 8, made of an aluminum-copper alloy and connected to the tungsten plug, is formed.

  • Publication number: 20010010403
Abstract: A typical integrated circuit interconnects millions of microscopic transistors and resistors with aluminum wires buried in silicon-dioxide insulation. Yet, aluminum wires and silicon-dioxide insulation are a less attractive combination than gold, silver, or copper wires combined with polymer-based insulation, which promise both lower electrical resistance and capacitance and thus faster, more efficient circuits. Unfortunately, conventional etch-based techniques are ineffective with gold, silver, or copper, and conventional polymer formation promote reactions with metals that undermine the insulative properties of polymer-based insulations. Accordingly, the inventor devised methods which use a liftoff procedure to avoid etching problems and a non-acid-polymeric precursor and non-oxidizing cure procedure to preserve the insulative properties of the polymeric insulator. The resulting interconnective structures facilitate integrated circuits with better speed and efficiency.

Abstract: An alloy or composite is deposited in a recess feature of a semiconductor substrate by sputtering an alloy or composite target into a recess, to form a first layer of deposited material. The first layer of deposited material is resputtered at a low angle and low energy, to redeposit the first layer of deposited material onto the bottom of the recess as a second layer of deposited material having a different stoichiometry than that of the first deposited material. In a further embodiment, a sputtering chamber ambient is comprised of argon and nitrogen. In yet a further embodiment, the resputtering step is followed by deposition of at least one layer of material with a different stoichiometry than that of the second deposited layer, to form a “graded” stoichiometry of material deposited in the recess.

Abstract: In a vacuum pump according to the invention, the rotor is held inside the stator by radial magnetic bearings, and its radial movements are limited by one or more landing mechanical bearings each made up of a rotor rolling bearing race and a stator rolling bearing race. At least one coaxial ring of elastomer in the shape of a torus is inserted between the outside peripheral surface of the stator rolling bearing race and the stator itself to constitute a damped elastic connection which significantly increases the reliability and the service life of the landing mechanical bearing.

Abstract: A stator assembly for use in an electromechanical machine includes an improved concentric winding arrangement. Groups of concentric coils are alternately inserted from both ends of the stator core. In other words, a first phase group is inserted from one end. The stator core is then rotated 180° for insertion of the second phase group. Next, the stator core is rotated back to its original position for insertion of the third phase group. The alternating process continues until all phase groups have been inserted. Preferably, the winding pattern utilizes a combination of full slots and shared slots, with full slots of different groups of the same phase being adjacent to one another. The invention permits the use of automated winding equipment in large inductions motors where hand insertion was often required in the past.

Abstract: A linear shape straight angle line is transformed to form U-shape configuration in advance and by sandwiching a stator tooth portion to adjacent slots linear shape two sides are inserted and using a thin plate rod shape chip between both ends of U-shape side of the above stated coil is connected and then the coil is formed to have one winding close circuit. The plural coils are inserted and as stated in above between the both ends of an anti-U-shape side is connected, and a stator coil for forming a predetermined winding turn number is obtained. When an end face of the anti-U shape side and the thin plate shape chip are overlapped and connected, a plate thickness of a portion in which they are overlapped is reduced by half respectively, and when they are overlapped, it becomes the plate thickness which corresponds to a plate thickness of the above stated straight angle line coil. A length of a coil end portion can be shortened widely.

Abstract: A piezoelectric composite transducer and method for making same are disclosed. A block of piezoelectric material has a common base and a plurality of uniform-length rods extending from the common base in a parallel spaced-apart fashion to define an array. A first surface region is defined at outboard ends of the rods and a side region is defined about the periphery of the array. Electric conductors extend through the side region, are routed parallel to the first surface region, and are then led substantially parallel to the rods to the first surface region. Spaces between the rods are filled up to the first surface region with a viscoelastic material. The common base of the block is then removed such that a second surface region parallel and opposite to the first surface region is defined. Electrodes are deposited at the first surface region to be in contact with the rods and in electrical contact with the electric conductors.
