Abstract: A cathode ray tube includes a panel and a reinforcing band for implosion-protection that is located around a side wall of the panel. The reinforcing band is formed by folding over one side in a width direction of a belt-like metal plate 6 so as to have a partially twofold structure and by joining both end portions of the belt-like metal plate 6 so as to be in the shape of a closed loop extending along the side wall of the panel. One end portion and the other end portion of the both end portions are joined together so as to achieve a threefold structure in at least one part. This can achieve a strong reinforcing band at a low cost without using a special member.

A calibration routine of a measurement process carried out by the instrument first determines the background signal level of the AC signal at an initial position of the instrument. A second AC signal level is measured at a second location. The second signal level is compared with the background signal level. A signal indicating the presence of the energized electric conductor is generated by the instrument when the comparison result is greater than or equal to a predetermined value. The instrument initially positioned directly over a concealed energized electric conductor is automatically re-calibrated when a decrease in the AC signal level of a predetermined amount is detected. Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming and applying seamless wear bands to a cylinder, such as a solenoid plunger. The apparatus consists principally of an expanding diameter pushing tool and mating conical mandrel. The pushing tool contacts and moves a flat washer type disc along the sides of the mandrel. As the disc travels along the mandrel it is transformed into a band configuration and snapped into a pre-formed undercut groove on the cylinder.

Abstract: A communications system is provided for communicating information to and from recipients scattered over wide geographic areas. A computer controlled head end communications interface adds address information to a message in accordance with who the intended recipients are. A media router directs the message through appropriate transport media in accordance with the address information. Preferably, the messages are communicated, at least in part, over existing paging systems. Additional transport media include existing power distribution networks, twisted wire pairs and fiber optics networks. Bi-directional reporting capability is provided. The system is well-suited for applications such as remote reading of utility meters, communication of emergency warnings, bi-directional alarm reporting, time synchronization, and encryption/authentication.

Abstract: A signal discriminator for preventing activation by undesired signals of low power transponder circuits in a keyless entry system. These undesired signals may be noise or interfering signals. An asymmetrical low pass filter is used to determine the presence of a desired signal having a defined length of time. The asymmetrical filter has a longer charge time then discharge time, thereby being adapted to quickly discharge upon the loss of a signal. Signal duration verification is further used to determine if the desired signal is of a correct time duration.

Abstract: A method for increasing the interrogation range of an RF Tag in a radio communication system using RF Tags with two reflecting antenna elements. The second reflecting antenna element is predeterminately positioned, and preferably aligned, with respect to the first reflecting antenna element in the direction of expected incident RF radiation and is spaced from the first reflecting antenna element at a predetermined fixed distance. The first and second reflecting antenna elements are alternately pulsed on and off such that while the first reflecting antenna element is in a signal reflecting operating state, the second reflecting antenna element is in a substantially non-reflecting state and vice versa. The alternate pulsing and predetermined fixed spacing between the first and second elements generates a known phase difference between the reflected signals of the first and second reflecting antenna elements.

Abstract: A humidification system for a fuel cell includes a humidifier having a bundled plurality of tube type hollow thread members made of a water permeable membrane. The humidifier transfers a water content contained in a discharge gas, which is emitted from a fuel cell, to a supply gas, which is supplied to the fuel cell, when one of the discharge gas and the supply gas is passed through the inside of the tube type hollow thread members and the other one of the discharge gas and the supply gas is passed through between the tube type hollow thread members. Manometers P1, P2, P3, and P4 detect a difference in pressure of the supply gas and the discharge gas, respectively, between an upper stream side and a down stream side of the humidifier. A determination unit determines a generation of clogging in the humidifier based on detection signals from the manometers.
