Abstract: A hydraulic drive system (11) of the type including a hydrostatic pump-motor unit (35) having a pumping mode in which the unit pressurizes, from its port (A), a high pressure accumulator (41), and a motoring mode, in which the unit is driven by pressurized fluid from the high pressure accumulator. The system also includes a source of low pressure (39) in communication with the opposite port (B) of the pump-motor unit (35), and a filter circuit (107) disposed therebetween. The filter circuit (107) defines an unrestricted first flow path from the source of low pressure (39) to the port (B) when the unit is in the pumping mode, and a second flow path from the port (B) to the source of low pressure (39) when the unit is in the motoring mode. The second flow path comprises one path portion (125) through a filter shut-off valve (121) and a filter (127) in series, and in parallel therewith, another path portion through a controlled flow restriction (135).

Abstract: A hydraulic arrangement is provided for a tool locking device of a loader. The hydraulic arrangement comprises a hydraulic cylinder with first and second chambers, which cylinder has a first position for unlocking and a second position for locking, a first supply line hydraulically connected to the first chamber, a second supply line hydraulically connected to the second chamber and a control valve hydraulically connected to the first chamber. So as to prevent the faulty actuation of the hydraulic cylinder, it is proposed that the control valve has a first position and a second position, the control valve in the first position allowing hydraulic fluid to flow only in the direction of the first chamber and in the second position allowing hydraulic fluid to flow both to the first chamber and out of the first chamber and the control valve being controlled such that it assumes the first position when the hydraulic cylinder assumes its first position.

Abstract: This method is intended for a turbocharged internal combustion engine having an electrically controlled throttle valve. The turbocharger has a waste gate for regulating its pressure. The position of the valve and the extent to which the gate is open are controlled according to two distinct modes of operation. In the first mode, the position of the valve is predetermined as a function of engine control and operating parameters, and the position of the gate is used to regulate the air flow rate. In the second mode, the extent to which the gate is open is predetermined as a function of engine control and operating parameters, and the position of the valve is used to regulate the air flow rate. Which mode is used is gauged by an electronic device which chooses the mode of operation to be implemented as a function of predetermined conditions stored in memory.

Abstract: In accordance with the invention, to reduce the complexity of a cycle process, a liquid working medium flow (13) is brought up to an increased pressure and through part condensation of an expanded working medium flow (12) a first partly vaporized working medium flow (15) is created. Through further vaporization of the first partly vaporized working medium flow (15) with heat which is transferred from an external heat source (20), a second at least partly vaporized working medium flow (18) is created. In this second at least partly vaporized working medium flow (18) the vapor phase (10) is separated from the liquid phase (10), subsequently the energy of the vapor phase (10) is converted into a usable form and an expanded vapor phase (11) created. Abstract: Backup energy systems utilizing compressed air storage (CAS) systems and bridging energy systems to supply backup power to a load are provided. During a power failure, the bridging energy system provides backup power to the load at least until the CAS system begins supplying adequate power. In various embodiments, backup power capability is enhanced through the use of one or more exhaustless heaters, which are used to heat compressed air. The compressed air, in turn, drives a turbine which is used to power an electrical generator. In various embodiments, ambient air heat exchangers or other types of heat exchangers are used to heat compressed air prior to the compressed air being routed to the turbine, thereby increasing system efficiency. Backup power and backup HVAC are also provided by utilizing turbine exhaust, heat exchangers and various resistive heating elements.

Abstract: An InfraRed Suppression System (IRSS) includes an exhaust manifold and a high aspect ratio exhaust duct along a longitudinal length thereof. The IRSS minimizes impingement of engine exhaust onto adjacent aircraft structure by discharging the flow upwardly and/or outwardly, away from the fuselage at relatively high velocity to reduce fuselage heating due to plume impingement in both hover and forward flight thus minimizing fuselage IR signature contributions. Furthermore, by directing the exhaust stream upward, a direct line of sight to the exhausted IR energy is masked from ground threats. The high aspect ratio exhaust duct and exhaust manifold are also preferably shrouded by an aerodynamic fairing which provides an aerodynamic contour to minimize aerodynamic impact to the aircraft and defines an air-cooled ejector gap to augment airflow to further insulate and obscure the high temperature exhaust gas exhausted through the exhaust duct.
