Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to a system and method for determining the refractive error of a person, more particularly determining the person's refractive error by using a computerized screen, and providing the person with a prescription for the person's preferred type of corrective lenses. The system and method do not require the trip or expense of a doctor visit, and are optimized for convenience and cost effectiveness. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides a method for determining a corrective lenses prescription for a person. The method includes, separately, for each eye of the person, determining the sphere prescription for the person via a computerized screen and without the use of a refractor lens assembly. Determining the sphere prescription is done, in part, by displaying a sphere figure to the person via the computerized screen and enabling the person to select at least one input, where the input corresponds to a sphere measurement.

Abstract: A thin planar biological sensor is provided, comprising at least one flexible electrode used for contacting a subject's skin and measuring biological signal. The flexible electrode is made of silicon-silver-based material, in which a ratio of silicon to silver-compound is about 7:3. A conductive plate is coupled to the flexible electrode. A buffer layer covers the conductive plate and the flexible electrode. A printed circuit board is used to receive the measured biological signal. By employing the novel proposed biological sensor, it is advantageous of measuring biological signals not only EEG signals but also ECG and EMG signals. Besides being thin, planar, flexible and non-allergy attributing a low cost to the proper fabrications makes the proposed sensor characterized with a potential for becoming an important tool of medical measurement.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for estimating the flow of blood through a blood vessel in a region of interest. Passage of a bolus of fluid through an imaged blood vessel over a period of time is tracked by a computing device. The computing device fits the tracked passage of the bolus of fluid to a modeled passage of the bolus of fluid. The computing device then estimates a volume of blood flow through the imaged blood vessel based at least in part on a fit of the tracked passage of the bolus of fluid to the modeled passage of the bolus of fluid.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method to determine the lung clearance index (LCI) or other indices of ventilation inhomogeneity of the lungs by combining two pulmonary gas exchange techniques; Inert gas rebreathing (IGR) is used for rapid wash-in of the inert tracer gas and this is followed by multiple-breath wash-out (MBW). The functional residual capacity (FRC) can either be determined from the tracer gas concentration and the gas flow inhaled and exhaled during multiple-breath wash-out or by gas analysis alone from the inert gas rebreathing. The cumulative expired volume (VCE) required to clear the inert tracer gas from the lungs is determined from the multiple-breath wash-out, and LCI is calculated as the ratio between VCE and FRC.
