Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of isolated polypeptides having protease activity in animal feed and detergents. It also relates to the use of isolated nucleic acid sequences encoding the proteases in the recombinant production of isolated polypeptides having protease activity and isolated nucleic acid sequences encoding the proteases. The invention also relates to nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and host cells, including plant and animal cells, comprising the nucleic acid sequences, as well as methods for producing and using the proteases, particularly using the proteases in animal feed and detergents.

Abstract: An improved rotary head extruder incorporates a twin auger system, in lieu of the typically used single auger, to create random extruded products having a density within the range of about 3.0 to about 6.0 lbs/cu ft. Extrusion using the rotary die system of a rotary head extruder together with the twin auger system allows for a wide variety of fine materials to be successfully introduced into and conveyed within a rotary head extruder to the die assembly, where the materials are cooked to form random extruded products. A transition piece at the downstream end of the augers allows for continuous, uniform flow to the die assembly, where cooking takes place. The random extruded products incorporate formulations with various ingredients aside from the typically used corn meal formulations, having different tastes and nutritional benefits while maintaining the desired bulk density, texture, and crunch of random extruded products.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for making palatable methionine-restricted foods, to deliver a methionine-restricted diet to human or veterinary patients. A protein or a food product containing protein is partially oxidized, preferably with ozone, to oxidize nearly all of the methionine and cysteine. After oxidation, tryptophan and lysine are optionally added back since they tend to be oxidized also. Optionally, a small amount of methionine is also added back so that the final methionine is within a preferred range of about 0.85 to about 1.8 gram methionine per 100 gram total protein, preferably about 1.2 gram per 100 gram total protein.

Processes include multiple tempering steps of controlled duration and cubing of the wheat kernel between two tempering steps. The cubing between the tempering breaks the kernels, or stresses the kernels, in a manner that enables a high degree of separation of the bran and endosperm early in the flour production process. An embodiment includes tempering for a first period between hour and 2 hours, cubing in a roll crusher with longitudinal corrugations on one roll and circumferential corrugations on a second roll, removing fines from the cubed kernels, and further tempering of the cubed kernels for a period between hour and 2 hours.

Abstract: The invention pertains to the use of a composition comprising per serving between 50-300 kcal; between 10 g and 35 g proteinaceous matter; and at least 2.5 microgram vitamin D, for the manufacture of a nutritional product for (a) the treatment or prevention of muscle mass decrease, (b) stimulation of muscle mass increase; or (d) stimulating muscle mass preservation, in obese or overweight adults of at least 40 years of age participating in a weight loss program. The inventors surprisingly found that nutritional supplementation with a low-caloric composition rich in protein, particularly whey protein and leucine, compared to an iso-caloric control supplement without protein, synergistically leads to preservation of muscle mass during a weight loss program involving a hypocaloric diet and a resistance exercise program in overweight/obese older adult.

The apparatus and processes are generally directed to a process that involves receiving and handling of produce; sorting and trimming the produce; weighing and batching the produce; disinfection of the produce; extraction of juice from the produce using a screw type press; filtration of the juice; mixing/blending of juice, packaging the final juice in bulk bags, where all the steps are performed in the refrigerated state at which the produce was received. Using bulk bags for packaging and subjecting the bulk bags to High Pressure Processing ensures food safety and significantly reduces the cost of distribution to remote locations worldwide. Bottling may be performed at the remote locations prior to local distribution.

The filter strip may be made of a deformable material which can be positioned on one end of the rolling sheet. The filter strip can be folded in a zig zag or spiral filter section with open section located longitudinally below to form a filter tip. The filter tip can assist the user in rolling by hand a substantially cylindrical or conical cigar or cigarette. The filter tip prevents tobacco filler material from being drawn through the cigar or cigarette and into a user's mouth, and permits the entire amount of tobacco filler to be consumed/smoked without risking burned hands and/or lips.

The amphiphile-modified sorbent has at least one amphiphilic compound bound to an inorganic molecular sieve substrate. The amphiphile-modified sorbent selectively removes certain constituents from cigarette smoke, while maintaining other constituents, such as those that contribute to flavor. Methods for making cigarette filters and smoking articles using amphiphile-modified sorbents, as well as methods for smoking a cigarette containing an amphiphile-modified sorbent, are also provided.

More particularly, the present device is a wallet constructed from foldable material that includes rolling papers, filters, a rolling tray and storage for cleaned smoking material as well as rolled smoking material. The wallet is constructed from a minimum number of material pieces which are folded into the wallet construction. The wallet can then be folded into various positions which allow access to a tray for cleaning and preparing smoking material. The tray also provides an area where the smoking material can be hand rolled whereby spilled or dropped smoking material is caught for reuse. The tray is positioned to allow cleaned or caught smoking material to be easily funneled into one of the pockets for storage, transport and later use.

Abstract: The invention is a method of air humidification and injection delivery that humidifies air to a specific selected relative humidity and injects the humidified air into a container to establish the specific selected relative humidity throughout the container. The method comprises the facilitation of ambient supply air into a liquid medium for humidification to a specific selected relative humidity. The resulting humidified air is released from the liquid medium and routed for injection into the container. The injected humidified air infiltrates the container and sustains the selected relative humidity throughout the container. Contents of the container are thus maintained at the selected relative humidity.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an electronic cigarette for convenient injection of cigarette liquid, manufacturing method thereof, and a method for injecting cigarette liquid into the electronic cigarette. A liquid injection hole is opened at a bottom of a liquid storage cup of the electronic cigarette, and the liquid injection hole is sealed by a sealing element which is self-closing once an injection device has been pulled out from the sealing element. The components of the electronic cigarette of the present invention can be assembled together first prior to the injection of cigarette liquid. Therefore, the problem of leakage and contamination of cigarette liquid during the manufacture of existing electronic cigarettes can be overcome. The automated injection of cigarette liquid can be carried out at places where the electronic cigarettes are sold.
