Fluid Pressure Patents (Class 100/170)
  • Patent number: 5699737
Abstract: To improve the throw-on and throw-off movement of the rollers in the roller train of inking or dampening units of a printing machine, an improved and simpler throw-on and throw-off device is provided. For this purpose, intermediate rollers are carried in bearing levers, which enable the intermediate rollers to be thrown off from adjacent distributor rollers. For the simple parallel throw-on of the intermediate rollers, their bearing levers carry cam rollers which are supported on an adjusting rod. The adjusting rod has cam sections which cooperate with the cam rollers, and in response to longitudinal displacement of the adjusting rod, the intermediate rollers are moveable in throw-on and throw-off directions.

  • Patent number: 5598774
Abstract: Two rolls, more particularly embossing rolls are provided which are pressed against each other by pneumatic cylinders for the purpose of fashioning a flat material passing between the rolls. The ends of one of the roll axles are journalled in slides which are actuatable by the cylinders in such a manner as to be deflectable in the pressure direction and in the travelling direction of the material. The elastically suspended roll is thus capable of automatically adjusting itself in such a manner that the axles of the two rolls can adjust to irregularities of the flat material and thus allow a disturbance-free and qualitatively optimal treatment of the material.

  • Patent number: 5003863
Abstract: Located in a stationary frame is a cylinder-piston unit, the piston of which is adapted to displace the bearing housing of a roll in a paper-making machine at right angles to the longitudinal axis thereof. The bearing housing is guided in the frame with the aid of linear guide-elements. The radial play between the piston and the cylinder-bore is greater than the transverse play between the said linear guide-elements. Furthermore, the axial length of the piston is less than the depth of the cylinder-bore. Whenever the cylinder-piston unit is relieved of its load, and the cylinder thus returns to its position of rest, it is centered in the cylinder-bore by means of a centering device.

Abstract: A flexure-controllable roll includes a stationary crosshead extending through a hollow cylinder, which is rotatable about the crosshead and supported by hydrostatic supporting elements that are radially displaceable by at least one piston/cylinder unit associated with each supporting element. Hydraulic fluid flows from the cylinder chamber of each piston/cylinder unit via choke bores into supply pockets formed in the contact surface of each supporting element. An additional piston/cylinder unit is provided on the rear side of the supporting element for exerting additional forces directed either toward the supporting element to press it against the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder or away from the supporting element to pull it away from the inner circumference.

  • Patent number: 4991499
Abstract: A roll arrangement comprises a hydraulically supported bottom roller having rotating hollow cylinder and a stationary crosshead extending lengthwise through the cylinder to form a clearance space therewith. The end of the crosshead are supported by force exerting devices. The forces producing the line pressure of the roll are transferred through a hydraulic supporting device, such as hydraulic fluid contained within a longitudinal pressure chamber in the crosshead, to the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder. When a quick release action is desired to separate the bottom roller from its counterroll, the pressure in the longitudinal chamber is suddenly lowered by opening a quick release valve connected to a return tank. A corresponding reduction of the pressure in the force exerting devices to permit separation of the rollers occurs only after a sensor, such as a dynamometer, has determined that the load on the crosshead has been substantially removed.

  • Patent number: 4986177
Abstract: There is disclosed a load/relief apparatus for use in a calender of a papermaking machine having a force transfer member positioned between on upper fluid actuator and two lower spaced apart fluid actuators. A linking arm is releasably connected to the lower part of the transfer arm spaced between the two lower fluid actuators. The linking arm is adapted to be connected to a lifting arm for a calender roll. In operation, the upper fluid actuator exerts a generally linear downward force that is transferred by the transfer member moving downwardly against the linking arm and thereby pushing the lifting arm down. The lower fluid actuators are adapted to exert a generally upward linear force that is transferred by the transfer member moving upwardly raising the linking arm and the lifting arm. The linking arm is releasable from the transfer member to permit the linking arm to be lowered beyond the travel associated with the deflation of the lower fluid actuators during normal relief operation.

  • Patent number: 4986178
Abstract: Holding arrangement for a device directed against a linearly adjustable roll, such as a doctor blade, blowing device or similar. On a holding arrangement for a device for surface treatment of the roll shell, directed against a linearly adjustable roll, where the roll is endways mounted through a bearing housing each in a machine frame, where for each bearing housing a cylinder/piston unit is provided for displacement of the roll, and where the roll is removable from the machine frame together with the bearing housings, a holder plate is arranged between the bearing housing and the piston of the cylinder/piston unit, which holder plate is connected with a support bearing for the device for surface treatment of the roll shell. Available is thus a holding arrangement of the categorial type which relative to the roll is well adjustable, which need not be lifted off as the roll contacts the opposite roll and which overall can be so integrated that it remains on the machine frame as the roll is lifted off.

  • Patent number: 4973001
Abstract: The invention relates to a material bed roller mill with a fixed roller and a floating roller which between them form a grinding gap and a hydraulic-pneumatic spring system which presses the floating roller in the direction of the fixed roller and contains at least one hydraulic working cylinder and a working pneumatic spring which cooperates therewith for each side of the floating roller. The spring container of each working pneumatic spring is divided by two movable pistons into a central gas filling chamber and two opposing hydraulic fluid chambers, and a stroke measuring device is associated with one piston for the preliminary filling pressure of the hydraulic fluid. In this way it is possible to reset the grinding force during operation by means of the hydraulic pressure with the same pneumatic spring characteristic on both sides of the floating roller.

Abstract: An apparatus for pressing laminated composites formed of two glass layers and one interposed thin plastic layer presses the glass/plastic composite while the glass/plastic composite is in a vertical position. A horizontal conveyor delivers the composite to the apparatus, and a tipping device places the composite in a vertical position. A suction cup unit, which is rotatably mounted on a supporting shaft, receives the composite from the tipping device. A movable carriage moves the supporting shaft, suction cup unit, and composite to a pair of pressing rolls. The pressing rolls receive the composite therebetween and press the composite layers together. Another rotatably mounted suction cup unit removes the composite from the pressing rolls and delivers the composite to another conveyer. The arrangement allows highly curved glass/plastic composites to be pressed with no risk of breaking the glass and without requiring manual intervention.
