Abstract: Disclosed herein are water control devices having a normally closed valve preventing water flow upon breakage of an outer mechanism having a float weight, that float weight overcoming the resistance of the valve under conditions of non-contact with water, that submerged float weight reducing in apparent weight as seen by the valve actuator. A float weight may be made from a material with about the same density as water, or with heavier materials with voids or pockets having an overall density of water or a substantial density greater than that of air. A control mechanism may be provided that moves independently of the valve, providing for decoupling of the float weight from the valve if the float weight is forced out of position. Detailed information on various example embodiments of the inventions are provided in the Detailed Description below, and the inventions are defined by the appended claims.

  • Publication number: 20080029070
Abstract: A first valve port 12 is so set as to have the seal diameter X smaller compared with that of a second valve port 14. Because the pressure reception area of a first valve body port 16 is small, the attachment force of the first valve body portion 16 is reduced with respect to a valve seat 12a. It thus becomes possible to open the first valve port 12 as the attachment of the first valve body portion 16 is released with respect to the valve seat 12a without increasing the weight of the float 15. After the first valve port 12 is opened, the pressure difference is reduced between inside of a fuel tank 20 and a connecting pipe on the side of a canister, and the attachment force acting on a second valve body portion 22 is also reduced. In this manner, the second valve body portion 22 is opened with certainty. As a result, it becomes possible to go through the operation of opening the second valve port 14 that is larger in diameter than the first valve port 12 without increasing the weight of a sub float 21.

  • Patent number: 5950692
Abstract: In an arrangement for limiting the fill level in a fuel tank having a filler neck with a tank inlet end, a valve flap is pivotally supported in the inlet end such that, in an open position, the valve flap is pivoted toward the fuel flow entering the tank during refueling and is connected, by way of a crank arm and a coupling rod to a float which is disposed in an essentially vertical guide tube. The coupling rod extends through the float and has spaced top and bottom stops providing for lost motion coupling between the float and the coupling rod whose weight is sufficient to keep the valve flap in an open position. When the fuel in the tank lifts the float and, after the float engages the top stop, lifts the coupling rod, closing movement of the valve flap is initiated which is then fully closed by the inflowing fuel utilizing the lost motion distance between the float and the bottom stop of the coupling rod.

  • Patent number: 5941417
Abstract: A system to be utilized at a dairy in the distribution of a pumpable food product from a storage tank to a filling machine for dispensing into containers. The system includes a balance tank for storing the product on the filling machine. The balance tank is in flow communication with a storage tank via a product line, and also has a level probe for monitoring the amount of product in the tank. A product pump pumps the food product to a valve mechanism which is also disposed on the product line. A programmable logic controller receives a signal from the probe indicative of the level of the product in the balance tank, and generates a series of signals to the product pump and the valve mechanism to maintain a steady flow of product from the storage tank to the balance tank. In this manner, foaming of the product in the balance tank is eliminated or substantially reduced to acceptable levels.
