Flexible Patents (Class 138/118)
  • Patent number: 8507062
Abstract: A flexible-to-rigid tube is flexible when routed and is then rigidized to increase burst strength. According to the preferred embodiments of the present invention, the flexible-to-rigid tube is included in a cooling plate assembly for transferring heat from electronic components mounted on a circuit board. In one embodiment, the flexible-to-rigid tube (while in a flexible state) includes a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) or other silicone containing pendant or terminal epoxy, vinyl and/or acrylate functional groups and an initiator (e.g., a sulfonium salt photoinitiator, a free radical photoinitiator, or a thermal initiator). In another embodiment, triallyl isocyanurate (TAIC) and an initiator are incorporated into a conventional PVC-based tubing material. The flexible-to-rigid tube changes from the flexible state to a rigid state via formation of a cross-linked network upon exposure to actinic radiation or heat.

  • Patent number: 8479776
Abstract: A flexible garden hose having an inner tube member made from elastic material and an outer tube member made from a non-elastic material. The inner tube member is secured to the outer tube member only at an inlet coupler and an outlet coupler. The inlet coupler is constructed to secure to a water supply provided from a conventional household water spigot. The outlet coupler is coupled to a flow restrictor allowing the inner tube member to equalize in pressure with pressurized water received from the water supply. Pressurized water expands the elongated inner tube member longitudinally along a length of the inner tube member and laterally across a width of the inner tube member thereby substantially increasing the length of the hose to an expanded condition wherein the hose contracts to a substantially decreased length when there is a decrease in pressurized water.

  • Patent number: 8348247
Abstract: A flexible tubing for fine bubble aeration is provided with an air passageway defined in part by an upper portion and a lower portion. The tubing can be made of a uniform weighted material with more material in the lower portion than in the upper portion. This makes the tubing self-orienting, in that it will tend to orient itself with micro-slits along the upper portion facing upward and the lower portion facing downward when submerged in a body of water. An automated, one-stage production line converts raw tubing material to a finished tubing product without the need for separate processing. A method of coiling the tubing places the micro-slits approximately 90° away from the surface of a spool hub, thereby avoiding a longitudinal arch in the tubing and ultimately preventing roll-over and improper slit orientation after installation in a water body.

Abstract: The pipe has a non-circular cross section that generally looks like that of a squashed circle. The pipe would not deform significantly from that having the squashed circle cross section under the condition in which the inside pressure is the same or less than that of the internal pressure of the pipe that carries ordinary cold tap water. The cross section of the pipe gets deformed to become rounder and larger when the water within the pipe is frozen, and the rounder and larger cross section is large enough for the pipe to contain the frozen water or ice without having any damages. The pipe is made of material such as high carbon content steel that allows the pipe to change its shape back to the pre-frozen shape as the water inside is thawed out.

Abstract: Example air ducts comprising pliable tubular sidewalls are provided with example internal frameworks that hold the duct in a generally expanded shape even when the duct is depressurized. The framework tensions the pliable sidewall material along the length of the ducts to keep the material taut. In some examples, the framework is restrained within the duct such that the duct's sidewall, being in tension, holds the framework in compression longitudinally. Thus, in the longitudinal direction, the duct is in tension and the framework is in compression. To prevent the framework from buckling under the compressive force, some example frameworks comprise a central longitudinal shaft with a plurality of radial spokes and rings that help hold the shaft straight. In some examples, the rings also help hold the duct radially expanded.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a hose which has a gas barrier layer and a rubber layer adhered without using an adhesive, and which has a dramatically improved durability compared to the conventional hose. The hose of the present invention is a refrigerant hose having an inner layer comprising a gas barrier layer and a rubber layer adhered to the outer surface of the gas barrier layer. The gas barrier layer comprises a modified polyamide prepared by blending a polyamide and a carboxyl group-containing modified polyolefin, and the rubber layer comprises a rubber composition prepared by blending a particular amount of an alkylphenol formaldehyde resin and a particular amount of carbon black with a raw rubber. The raw rubber comprises a BIMS, a copolymer rubber which is a butyl rubber and/or a halogenated butyl rubber, and an EPDM, the carbon black is specified, and no adhesive layer is formed between the gas barrier layer and the rubber layer.

Abstract: A trigger-type pump dispenser capable of preventing deformation of a channel of a coupling part when a piston is vertically pushed down by a trigger even in a structure in which the coupling part bends and a nozzle does not vertically move. The dispenser has a base main body 1 having the cylinder part 11 inside and attachable to an opening part of a container main body. A cover body 4 detachably latched with the base main body. A piston structure 2 composed of the nozzle part 21 engaged with the base main body, the piston part 23, and a bendable coupling part coupling the nozzle part and the piston part. Many fins 22A are formed on the periphery of the coupling part 22 so that an interior channel is not deformed.

Abstract: A flexible hose for transporting food liquids, particularly for irrigation or the like, comprising at least one outer protective layer (2) of a first flexible polymer material and at least one inner layer (3) in direct contact with the fluid to be transported, made of a second flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-containing polymer material. The second polymer material includes a plasticizer agent having as low a migration level as to maintain the flexibility of said second polymer material substantially unaltered with time. The plasticizer agent is selected from the group comprising non-phthalate additives, so that it can be non-toxic and non-polluting for the food products to be transported.

Abstract: In some example pliable air duct systems, inflatable ducts of various diameters and lengths are created by selectively assembling pre-existing stock pieces in different combinations. In some examples, the stock pieces include disconnectable longitudinal joints and disconnectable circumferential joints, wherein the longitudinal joints enable interconnecting multiple stock pieces to achieve a desired tube diameter, and the circumferential joints allow connecting multiple tube segments end-to-end to produce an air duct assembly of a desired length. To control the volume and/or the direction of air discharged from the duct, the duct assembly, in some examples, includes an adjustable register comprising a movable pliable sheet that overlies a discharge opening in a pliable sidewall of the duct. In some examples, the inflatable duct includes one or more cutout patterns on the duct's sidewall to provide guidance in creating a sidewall discharge opening of a proper size and location.
