Metal Bands Patents (Class 24/20R)
  • Patent number: 5191684
Abstract: An open clamp structure, especially an earless clamp structure with overlapping inner and outer clamping band portions adapted to be mechanically interconnected; the clamp structure can be tightened about the object to be fastened by the application of a tighening tool at tool-engaging surfaces in these band portions; the tool-engaging surfaces are thereby so constructed and arranged that over-torquing during tightening is precluded. Savings in band material can be realized by the particular arrangement of the mechanical connection of the inner and outer band portions which also permits an efficient preassembly.

  • Patent number: 5150927
Abstract: An arrangement for radially expanding a tubular gasket includes a sliding sleeve and a compression sleeve. The sliding sleeve is formed of a thin membrane of relatively rigid material, such as nylon, hypalon or polyester. The sliding sleeve is positioned adjacent an inner surface of that portion of the tubular gasket to be expanded. The compression sleeve is disposed immediately adjacent the sliding sleeve such that the sliding sleeve serves as a slip plate for the compression sleeve when the sleeves are expanded against the inner surface of the tubular gasket. The sliding sleeve may be attached to or integrally molded into the inner surface of the tubular gasket. Another aspect of the invention involves forming the compression sleeve so as to allow it to be locked in any one of a plurality of expanded positions.

  • Patent number: 5148576
Abstract: A snap-on clamp for securing a conduit includes an open-ended loop having complementary, interlocking clamps at each end. The clamps each include a jaw portion having teeth opposed to and engageable with the teeth on the other jaw portion and manually engageable pressure pads on each clamp for forcing the clamps toward each other. The teeth are angled to permit sliding movement toward a closed position as the manually engageable portions are forced toward each other and which are lockable against movement toward an open position. One clamp also includes an opposed tongue portion spaced from the jaw portion for engaging the opposite surface of the jaw portion on the other clamp for resiliently resisting separation of the teeth. A pressure responsive indicator is movable from a first position to a second position when the resisting force on the loop exceeds a predetermined value to provide an indication that the application of additional force to the manually engageable means will overstress the conduit.

Abstract: An auxiliary spring structure for use with open clamps in which the auxiliary spring member is contained within a cage formed by the outer band portion whereby the free leg portions of the auxiliary spring member extend through slot-like openings in the cage to engage the latter from the outside so as to resist elastically forces seeking to enlarge the circumferential dimensions of the clamp. In another embodiment, the auxiliary spring structure is formed by one or preferably several interengaged leaf springs which are connected between the end area of the outer band portion and the clamping band near the beginning of the inner band portion. Any gaps resulting in the auxiliary spring structure are thereby covered by the full band width of the inner band portion. • Patent number: 5115541
Abstract: A hose clip wherein a flexible annular strap can be place around one end portion of a hose and a relatively small portion (less than 50 percent) of the inner side of the strap is overlapped by the convex external surface of a deformable insert. The space between the insert and the strap confines one or more springs, or one or more springs are outwardly adjacent the strap, to bias the concave internal surface of the insert against the adjacent portion of the hose. The strap can constitute an endless ring or it can be of finite length and the hose clip then comprises a tightening mechanism for the strap. The insert can be biased by one or more leaf springs, by one or more C-springs or by one or more coil springs. The spring or springs can be caused to store more energy than required to maintain the hose in sealing engagement with a pipe or nipple, and the surplus energy is then dissipated as soon as the strap is placed around the hose and the tubular body is inserted into the hose.

The tongue has a hook-shaped free end and an end opposite to the hook-shaped free end, and the holding part projects at an angle from the opposite tongue end and is bendable towards the tongue along a folding line adjacent the opposite tongue end. The holding part is integral with the tongue and has a hook-up edge spaced from the tongue end and arranged to be engaged by the hook-shaped free end when the flexible tongue is looped around the element to be fastened, and it is operable as a lever upon bending the holding part towards the tongue along the folding line for tightening and closing the fastening device when the tongue is looped around the element to be fastened and the hook-up edge of the holding part has been engaged by the hook-shaped free end of the tongue.

  • Patent number: 4930191
Abstract: A hose clamp includes an annular clamp body having a first terminal portion and a second terminal portion. The first terminal portion has a guide opening, a lock wall defined between the guide opening and the leading end of the first terminal portion, and side walls disposed across the guide opening and folded back over themselves in a substantially U-shaped cross section having an upper side piece and a lower side piece. The second terminal portion has a radially outwardly bent wall serving as an engaging tongue piece. The clamp body is kept in a radially expanded state when the engaging tongue piece of the second terminal portion abuts against the lock wall of the first terminal portion and is radially contracted when the abutment between the engaging tongue piece and the lock wall is released to move the engaging tongue piece within the guide opening.

Abstract: A substantially cylindrical shaped metal clamp suitable for joining co-axial pipes, is disclosed and outlined. Said clamp is made from a base strap which is bent in two positions rather close to its ends, one of said bends developing on a non-radial axis and having the end near the other bend, which may be also a radial one, extending for a short straight line having an open bend end which, on locking, hooks on to the non-radial bend close to the other end of the clamp. The base strap forming the clamp has two wide wave shaped laps which, because adjacent, give the strap an `m` shape, said `m`-shaped portion, which is lightened by a central lengthwise slit, is situated at the strap end bearing the straight hooking arm.
