  • Patent number: 4765033
Abstract: A quick-release radial clamp for fitting over and clamping a hose onto a rigid fitting. The clamp has a split ring with an inner and outer surface. The split in the ring extends in the axial direction of the ring and forms two abutting ends. A stretched elastomeric sleeve is placed upon the outer surface of the ring and is held in that position by the ring as long as the shape of ring is held by the abutting ends. A quick-release mechanism is provided at the ends for disengaging them from their abutting positions, thereby permitting the stretched sleeve to recover and contract. This contracts the rings as well by causing the ends to slide past each other. This clamping contraction is accomplished quickly and easily and provides a sure clamp.

Abstract: A helically convoluted hose clamp has a central portion of rectangular cross-sectional outline, two intermediate portions of rectangular or V-shaped cross-sectional outline, and two radially outwardly extending end portions. The moments of resistance of the intermediate portions exceed the moment of resistance of the median portion, and the overall length of the clamp is in excess of 1.5 convolutions preferably between 2.5 and 2.6 convolutions. The inner diameter of the clamp is normally less than the outer diameter of the hose which is to be clamped on a pipe or the like. The length of the intermediate portions exceeds the length of the end portions, and each such intermediate portion can extend along an arc of approximately 360 degrees. Pronounced moments of resistance of the intermediate portions promote the clamping action and prevent the end portions from yielding and bending when they are acted upon to increase the inner diameter of the clamp.

  • Patent number: 4399593
Abstract: The invention relates to a non-reusable hose-clip, intended to ensure for example the connection of two tubular members. The invention also relates to a tool for tightening the clip. The clip is composed of a band forming a loop comprising a free end (2).It is characterized by the fact that in the vicinity of the other end it comprises locking means (4) which are self-tightening due to wedging of the free end. These means are preferably constituted by a casing (8) of convergent shape and a wedge (17) of complementary shape. Possibly, spring means (24) restore the wedge to the locked position. Also, wedging may be reinforced by the engagement of complementary teeth. Also, in the vicinity of the terminal part of its free end (2), the clip according to the present invention comprises means facilitating calibrated tightening of the latter. According to one embodiment, these means comprise an aperture (7), possibly a flange (6) by which the swinging head of a pulling tool engages the band.

  • Patent number: 4390260
Abstract: The invention contemplates a precisely adjustable threaded mechanism, as for focus adjustment of an aerial camera lens, wherein inner and outer threaded members are normally in circumferentially continuous radially stressed play-free engagement to the extent of requiring a characteristic maximum torque for their rotary adjustment. One of these members is continuously excitable (with respect to the other) as to so incrementally change its circumferential extent with respect to the circumferential extent of the other of said members that their characteristic engagement torque is reduced from said maximum. And a rotary-drive torque of a level less than said maximum engagement torque but greater than the reduced engagement torque is operative to impart an incremental thread-advancing rotary drive, during such intervals as the engagement torque is thus reduced.

  • Patent number: 4308648
Abstract: Hose clamps are disclosed comprising a band, band section, or attachment to a band, which yields in a direction circumferentially of the band and which possesses a spring-like quality and/or action such that the clamp is essentially self-adjusting to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction of the assembly (clamp, hose and fitting), as well as for the aging or cold set which the hose undergoes, whereby a fluid-tight seal is maintained throughout the intended life of the assembly, without requiring the clamp to be re-tightened. The bands of the clamps are open-ended and of generally circular configuration and are provided with a tangentially located or oriented worm drive screw for closing the clamp and providing a greater and closer range of adjustment in closing the clamp. The clamps, in some cases, have incorporated therein a positive stop, whereby closure of the clamp can be limited to a specified or predetermined size or diameter.

  • Patent number: 4307495
Abstract: A hose clamp wherein the slotted strap portion is cut to a desired clamp size from a stock supply length. The clamp provides a housing for the two ends of the cut portion. Projections carried by the housing permit a first end of the strap to be removably engaged with the housing. A second member, preferably the second end of the strap, fills the space above the attached first end to interfere with the movement of the first end off the projection. Thus the assembly of a cut strap portion and a drive housing can be accomplished without tools.
