  • Patent number: 7226778
Abstract: An apparatus and process for naturally recycling poultry carcasses for use as a nutritional supplement, the apparatus generally consists of four modules: an enzymatic digest medium mixing assembly that self adjusts for pH; a mobile grinding assembly mounted on a truck trailer; a digesting and emulsifying assembly which includes a heated tank and separator; and a drying system. Carcasses are loaded into the grinder, and the ground carcasses are pumped into a storage tank with the enzymatic digest medium to produce a protein soluble mixture. The particle size of this mixture is then further reduced, and transported to a centralized and stationary processing plant for digesting and emulsifying. The remaining emulsified proteins are then dried. The resulting pellet-like pieces are uniformly sized for packaging.

Particularly, the pH modification can be loosely controlled to produce an over-modification in the first foodstuff and then the stream (B) of second foodstuff may be combined with the stream (A) first foodstuff to produce a stream (C) of material having the target pH.

Each time the parameters of the grinding process are set so that the approximation s'.sub.NMR for the specific surface area of the fines will attain a prescribed value s.sup.o.sub.NMR. Each time the residue percentage of the fines retained on a sieve is determined and at the onset of an increase of the residue percentage the grinding is controlled so that a subsequent agglomeration of fines particles is suppressed. The fines are impregnated by a liquid impregnanting agent comprising hydrogen atoms.

Abstract: A poultry and swine pulverizing or grinding apparatus comprises an enclosed housing having an inlet end and an outlet end. A grinding drum is rotatably mounted within the enclosed housing and provided with raised cutting teeth extending in a helical orientation along the longitudinal length of the grinding drum. A carcass retention element is positioned adjacent the length of the grinding drum and cooperates therewith to facilitate pulverizing or grinding of animal carcasses by the grinding drum into small size particles which exit the housing through the outlet end. The grinding drum of the apparatus is motivated by an operatively connected motor. Also described is an automated system for preparing animal carcasses for lactic acid fermentation and/or further processing utilizing the aforesaid grinding apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5690283
Abstract: A coffee blending apparatus for automatically custom blending two or more different types of coffee beans with or without added flavoring to an individual's personalized blend and/or flavor. The apparatus includes a plurality of supply hoppers, each containing a particular type of coffee bean, each hopper having a controlled discharge opening from which the coffee beans are selectively discharged in predetermined amounts onto a weighing apparatus or scale for weighing. The selected coffee beans forming the desired blend are then mixed to form a homogeneous blend of coffee beans and from where the blended beans are directed to either a grinding station or bagging station as an unflavored blend, or to a flavoring station wherein the homogeneously blended coffee beans are mixed with a desired flavoring ingredient. In one form of the invention, a scale having a discharge opening is interposed between the supply hoppers and the mixer where the coffee beans are blended.

  • Patent number: 5618003
Abstract: A process and apparatus for disinfection and reclamation of materials contained in contaminated disposable products worn by infants and adults containing human feces and/or urine. The process and apparatus disinfect, mechanically and biologically break down and separates these materials by the use of a pressurized steam digester, mechanical chopper and a screening process. The steam digester process is carried on in a sealed system utilizing a fume scrubber for controlling disposition of ammonia and methane gasses. Effluent and waste are controlled to maintain safe discharges and all recyclable materials are disinfected and reduced to a form suitable for remanufacture of like products or as raw materials for other manufactured products. Polymer particles are exposed to ultraviolet light for molecular breakdown and ion exchange between polymer chains, resulting in further reduction in mass of each particle.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of effecting a physico-chemical reaction, in which method a crystalline or amorphous substance is crushed or ground. In the method according to the invention, as soon as a new fractured surface is formed, it is brought into immediate contact with an environment V1 the physico-chemical property of which is so selected that a firm bond or compound is formed between the fractured surface and the molecules of the environment, at least one molecule of said bond or compound being adapted to its purpose for the further treatment of the crushed or ground material in another environment V2, whereby the physico-chemical property of the environment V1 is further so selected that components disadvantageous in view of the further treatment of the crushed or ground material are prevented from getting to the fractured surface.

  • Patent number: 5577673
Abstract: A deodorizer apparatus for an electric grinder type garbage disposal system automatically injects a spray of deodorizer from a conventional spray can into the grinder chamber after the grinder motor is turned off, which is the optimum time for deodorizing. One type of actuator mechanism uses a shaft supported cam to depress the valve on the spray can. The cam is driven against a rest stop by a spring, and the spring is tensioned by a motor device operated in parallel with the grinder motor when the disposer is active. Another actuator mechanism uses a solenoid operated by logic circuits sensing the state of the grinder motor.

  • Patent number: 5251825
Abstract: A method and apparatus for comminuting and decontaminating discrete batches of waste material to reduce the volume, to render it unrecognizable and to render it safe for subsequent handling. The minimum volume of decontaminant fluid to be added to each batch is determined by its weight. Batches of differing weights are fed consecutively to the comminuting apparatus either manually or by a conveyor. A batch weigh scale is employed to preset a timer which controls the duration of operation of a device feeding decontaminant fluid to the batch. The feeding means can be made operable to withdraw reactive agents from separate storage means, to mix them to produce the decontaminant fluid and to feed the reacted mixture into the comminuting apparatus.
