Patent number: 6635209Abstract: An improved encapsulation method is proposed for the encapsulation of a substrate-based package assembly, which can help to prevent mold flash over exposed package surfaces after encapsulation process is completed. The proposed encapsulation method is characterized by the forming of a cutaway portion in a solder mask over the substrate along a seam line between the solder mask and the molding tool that would exist between the solder mask and the molding tool when the semi-finished package assembly is fixed in position in the molding tool. During encapsulation process, the cutaway portion defines a constricted flow passage to the injected encapsulation material; and consequently, when the encapsulation material flows into this constricted flow passage, it would more quickly absorb the heat in the molding tool, thereby increasing its viscosity and retarding its flow speed.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2000Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Assignee: Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd.Inventor: Chien-Ping Huang

Patent number: 6398995Abstract: A high impact resistant rotationally molded door and process for molding the door has the hinge post integrally attached to the rotationally molded skin of the door. A hinge member is provided that has a perforate U-shaped metal sheet bonded to preferably the upper portion of the hinge post. The sides of the U-shaped metal sheet are spaced sufficiently apart so that registration with the subsequently rotationally molded plastic skin of the door occurs. This hinge member at the perforate metal sheet rapidly heats during rotational molding. The perforate metal thus bonds to integrally mold with the skin of the door. This bonding occurs as the hinge post is molded within the hollow door construction along its hinging edge. The hinge member attaches at the perforate U-shaped metal sheet to the skin of the door while all other portions of the hinge post are free to move with respect to the door. The door is thus formed without door warping during curing and shrinking of rotationally molded plastic door body.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2000Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Assignee: Chase Industries Inc.Inventors: Daniel Richard Eisenlord, Thomas Lee McCormick

The annular molding portion (31) is provided with a gate opening (33) and an overflow opening (34) with two flow paths therebetween. One of the two resin flow paths (31a and 31b) is set to be longer in the flowing distance and/or flowing resistance than the other of the two flow paths. The overflow opening (34) is arranged in a manner that the distance of the overflow opening (34) facing the one flow path having the larger flowing distance and/or flowing resistance is made longer than the distance thereof facing the other flow path.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1999Date of Patent: March 19, 2002Assignee: Yazaki CorporationInventor: Toshiharu Takahashi

Patent number: 6354950Abstract: The invention relates to a flexible shaft coupling whose two coupling halves, each comprising a connecting flange, are connected to one another by means of a lamella packet collar so as to rotate together but be axially and angularly movable relative to one another, wherein the lamella packet collar is comprised of several lamellas axially spaced by spacer elements and is fastened by means of circumferentially distributed fastening and clamping elements alternatingly to the two connecting flanges. For reducing or preventing noise which is caused by the bending movements of the lamellas as a result of the angular misalignment compensation, it is provided that the lamellas are connected with one another by an elastic material in a positive-locking manner in that the lamellas are embedded in the elastic material so that the elastic material is also arranged between the lamellas and at the outer sides of the lamella packet collar.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2000Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: ATEC-Weiss GmbH & Co., KGInventor: Rudolf Weiss

Publication number: 20020028649Abstract: In an air passage switching door, a packing material having a size approximately corresponding to a plate surface of a door base member is used, and the door base member is crossed with the packing material at a portion around a rotation shaft for rotating the door base member, so that both plate portions of the door base member are bonded to opposite surfaces of the packing material at different areas of the packing material. Accordingly, the air passage switching door can be manufactured using the single packing material in low cost, while having a reduced thickness.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2001Publication date: March 7, 2002Inventors: Mitsutoshi Kato, Yasuhiro Sato, Yutaka Ichitani, Kunio Nakashima, Hiroyuki Saito

Publication number: 20020020944Abstract: A method of manufacturing a honeycomb structure and a through hole forming device used in the manufacture of the honeycomb structure are disclosed, in which the step of closing a part of the cell ends at an end surface of the honeycomb structure is rationalized. In closing a part of the cell ends (82) at the end surface (861) of a honeycomb structure body (86), a film (2) is attached to the end surface (861) of the honeycomb structure body (86) in such a manner as to cover the cell ends (82). The portion of the film (2) located at the cell ends (82) to be closed is thermally melted or burnt off thereby to form through holes (20). The end surface (861) is dipped in a slurry containing an end surface closing material, so that the slurry is caused to enter the cell ends (82) by way of the through holes (20). After that, the slurry is hardened while at the same time removing the resin film (2).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2001Publication date: February 21, 2002Inventors: Satoru Yamaguchi, Hitoshi Kanmura, Akinobu Muto, Toshiaki Tanida

Publication number: 20020017739Abstract: On carrying out a hole filling method for a printed wiring board having an interlayer connection hole, first and second printed wiring boards (1 and 2) are prepared, each of which has the interlayer connection hole. The first printed wiring board is placed on a bottom plate (7). On the first printed wiring board, a first hole guide plate (8) having a first guide hole formed at a position corresponding to the interlayer connection hole of the first printed wiring board is placed in such a manner that the first guide hole is coincident with the interlayer connection hole of the first printed wiring board. A hole filling resin (9) is superposed on the first hole guide plate. On the hole filling resin, a second hole guide plate (10) having a second guide hole formed at a position corresponding to the interlayer connection hole of the second printed wiring board is placed.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2001Publication date: February 14, 2002Applicant: Japan Radio Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shigetoshi Abe, Tomoko Kato, Yasuo Sato, Takashi Itagaki, Kenji Matsumoto

Patent number: 6328920Abstract: A plastic part having a complex structure as a first layer and a simple structure as a second layer, is formed using a method for molding. Initially, a single mold is provided, the mold having an interior cavity and a runner reaching from an exterior of the mold to the cavity. The mold is kept closed while a quantity of a first plastic material is injected via the runner into the interior cavity to form a first layer of the plastic part. The mold is then partially opened, creating an increased interior cavity section, into which a quantity of a second plastic material is injected, via the runner, to form a second layer of the plastic part. The solidified plastic part can then be ejected from the mold.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1998Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Honda Engineering North America, Inc.Inventors: Yuichi Uchiyama, Lam B. Patent number: 6309575Abstract: A method and resulting integrated circuit package is disclosed for encapsulating integrated circuit chips using transfer molding techniques in a form known as cavity packages. Each chip is positioned within a cavity surrounded by a laminate or printed wiring board which provides an array of contacts. The contacts provide for connections to an external circuit board/card and the contacts are also indirectly connected internally to the chip. The cavity, chip and some of the laminate, contacts and interconnections are on the same side of the carrier. Liquid plastic is forced into the cavity via a runner in a mold through a gate in the bottom of the carrier in order to encapsulate all of these components.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Lynda Boutin, Martial A.
