Abstract: The invention relates to a seal of the type V-ring. The seal comprises a body (7) with an inner side (13) for abutting, for example, a rotary shaft (1). The seal further comprises a lip (8) with a rear side (10) and a front side (9) with a lower portion (1/9 and an upper portion, the sealing surface (16). The sealing surface is intented to abut a surface rotary in relation to the seal (5), against which surface it is intended to seal. In order to prevent the seal (5) from being broken down by aggressive medium, it is made of PTFE. A resilient ring element (12) is provided to act on the lip (8) with a force, which results in that the sealing surface (16) will move in the direction to the surface it is intended to seal against. The resilient ring element (12) further is arranged so that it cannot come into contact with the aggressive medium.

A second, generally L-shaped sleeve is fitted up against the back of the first sleeve so as to place the lip end of the inboard seal in a similarly raised or retracted position. Upon installation of the seal ring about the shaft and in the shaft housing, the second, innermost sleeve is removed, such that the inboard lip seal is deployed against the surface of the shaft. Upon detection of leakage past the inboard seal, the first sleeve is retracted to thus deploy the remaining outboard lip seal.

The communication hole 16 communicates a space 24 defined by the first and second seals 13, 14 and a crank shaft 2, with a gap 25 between an outer casing 11 and the first seal 13. Negative pressure induced in the space 24 is eliminated by sucking air from the outside through the communication hole 16 while lubrication oil having entered into the space 24 is removed from a groove 15 which is formed in the first and second seals 13, 14, thereby it is possible to restrain the first and second seals 13, 14 from being worn.

Abstract: A multiple shaft seal arrangement positioned between a shaft and an inside diameter surface of an aperture in a wall. The multiple shaft seal arrangement has a flinger attached to the shaft with a face seal mounted to the flinger. A double lip oil seal is mounted to the inside diameter of the aperture. The flinger is positioned such that the face seal is pressed against the double lip oil seal. Accordingly, rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the flinger and face seal. This centrifugally throws contaminants, such as particulate matter, away from the aperture. The void between the face seal and the inside diameter of the aperture is filled with grease or similar substance. The combination of these elements greatly prohibits debris, moisture, particulate matter or other environmental elements from passing from one side of the multiple shaft seal arrangement to the other.

  • Patent number: 6601855
Abstract: A universal joint seal for retaining lubricant therein. The seal cooperates to form a static seal with the trunnion and a static seal with the bearing cup and permits relative angular movement between the trunnion and bearing cup through a flexible web portion. The seal optionally permits venting of pressure within the grease cavity formed between the trunnion and bearing cup. The seal also has a passage communicating with the grease cavity. The seal has an outward facing lip seal that provides a fluid barrier to the migration of lubricant out of the passage. In response to a moderate pressure level within the grease cavity, the lip moves away from the contacting surface so as to vent the moderate pressure within the grease cavity out of the sealed region and to prevent an excessive pressure differential from developing across the lip. Several alternate embodiments permitting venting of pressure from the grease cavity are disclosed.

The shaft seal has a lip type ring fitted on the side of the high-pressure area of the rotary shaft. The lip type ring further includes a lip ring, a plurality of first portions and a plurality of second portions. The lip ring is located around the rotary shaft. The lip ring has a ring surface. The first portions are formed on the ring surface to slidably contact the rotary shaft surface. The first portions guide the fluid towards a space between the ring surface and the rotary shaft surface as the rotary shaft is rotated. The second portions are formed on the ring surface. The second portions prevent the fluid in the space from leaking into the low-pressure area.
