Dimensional Aspect Of The Flexible Projection (e.g., Angle, Length, Radius, Thickness, Etc.) Patents (Class 277/560)
  • Patent number: 5921556
Abstract: A seal that is particularly suitable for use in a gas spring and other high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic sealing applications and that minimizes the leakage of relatively high pressure gas and lubricating oil from the rod end of the gas spring or the other applications. The generally annular seal body includes radially inwardly and outwardly facing surfaces and non-concave axial facing surfaces. Lobes for sealing, wiping and directing enhanced forces project radially beyond the planes of the radially inwardly and outwardly facing surfaces. The seal also includes a wiper insert that has a parabolic shaped radially outwardly facing surface and a radially inwardly facing surface, and that is secured in a recess adjacent to the front corner of the seal body's radially inwardly facing surface.

  • Patent number: 5915696
Abstract: Lip-type oil seals (10) having helical pumping ribs (40) are manufactured by preparing a molded foreproduct of the seal and by trimming a hat portion (62) to form a sharp sealing edge (32). Each of the pumping ribs (40) is configured to include a first section (50) of a uniform cross-section and a bilge-shaped second section (52). Trimming is made along a trim line (68) that intersects in between the length of the first sections (50) to ensure that a length of the first sections (52) is preserved between the sealing edge (32) and the second sections (52) regardless of the tolerance of positioning of a trimming knife. Oil seals having an improved initial static and dynamic sealing performance is obtained. The second sections (52) achieves a satisfactory pumping action even after a substantial wear has taken place.

  • Patent number: 5896640
Abstract: Apparatus and method for sealing the passageway between two conduits in an injection molding apparatus, including two abutting conduits for transporting molten plastic under pressure having an interface between the abutting conduits, and a device for sealing the interface between the two abutting conduits operative induce a sealing stress distribution that reaches a maximum value adjacent the common longitudinal axis of the abutting conduits.

  • Patent number: 5895052
Abstract: A device for sealing the annular gap between a housing and a shaft supported in the housing. The device comprises an inner ring, an outer ring, and an elastomeric sealing member joined to the outer ring. The sealing member has three sealing lips, of which only the first abuts, under prestressing, against the inner ring. The two other sealing lips are configured in such a way that, between their outer ends and the sections of the inner ring lying opposite to their outer ends, gaps are formed which act as a contact-free sealing. In addition, a gap may be provided between a radially extending annular disk portion of the sealing member and an outer flanged section of the inner ring axially opposite the annular disk portion. That gap and the gaps at the ends of the second and third sealing lips form a labyrinth seal.

  • Patent number: 5865442
Abstract: A piston seal has formed on one side of the piston body upon which oil pressure works are a tapered surface portion which extends in a direction away from a piston sliding wall and a parallel surface portion. A lip-like seal is formed of a seal base portion which is, in cross section, approximately triangular to fill a space defined between the tapered surface portion and the piston sliding wall, and a lip portion which is formed integrally with the seal base portion. Q indicates the exertion line of a force which presses the lip portion against the piston sliding wall. T is a normal line which extends from the tapered surface portion towards the piston sliding wall. In order to prevent the lines Q and T from intersecting with each other within the bore, the seal base portion is arranged to lie apart from the lip portion in relation to the axial direction of the bore.

  • Patent number: 5758881
Abstract: A shaft seal comprises a resilient sealing ring 1 with a peripheral sealing lip which is deflected axially in use so as to bear radially against a shaft. The sealing contact area 2 on the sealing lip is between predetermined limits, each defined by a change in angle of the surface of the sealing lip so that a substantial contact stress is maintained across the whole sealing contact area 2 in use. The seal can be used in an assembly including a carrier 5, 5' in which the seal is mounted. The seal can be used cooperatively with another shaft seal to prevent contaminants passing along the shaft.
