  • Patent number: 9825440
Abstract: According to typical inventive practice, a cable is grasped by a Kellum grip and is positioned through the topside “V”-notch of an “M”-structure. Two wires engage pulleys and a ratchet distanced from the pulleys. The pulleys are joined with a grip plate, attached at an axial end of the Kellum grip. The ratchet is joined with a ratchet plate, proximate and/or attached to the “M”-structure. The “M”-structure has joined therewith three blade wheels having cutting orientations in the same linear direction. The blade wheels are situated interiorly and perpendicularly in correspondence to the geometric sides of the inverted triangle defined by the “V”-notch. Each blade wheel is adjustable to suit the diameter of the cable positioned through the “V”-notch. Ratcheting of the wires moves the ratchet plate and hence the “M”-structure, resulting in creation via the blade wheels of three parallel slices in the cable along its axis.

The arrangement and formation of cutting wheel (7) and support rollers (9) is such that the clamped pipe is at right angles to the cutting wheel (7), and a right-angled cut is thus achieved. Moreover, a defined feed cutting force can be set by the spring mounting of cutting wheel head (8) and support roller receptacles. During cutting, the pressure on the pipe decreases with increasing cutting depth, and the pipe can thus be cut cleanly and without burrs.

Abstract: The planetary tubing cutter of the invention provides a gearing assembly having a pair of ring gears and a number of pinions with a blade affixed to each pinion. The ring gears are parallel to one another and are individually driven. The pinions are rotatably mounted to a side surface of one ring gear and engage a sun gear assembled to the other ring gear. When the ring gears rotate at the same speed, the pinions and blades do not revolve around their respective axes, and when one ring gear rotates at a speed different from the other ring gear, the pinions and blades revolve about their respective axes, intercepting and cutting a tube passing through an axial passage through the ring gears.

Abstract: A cutter is capable of cutting a pipe-shaped object so as to produce a cut surface which is almost perfectly perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the pipe-shaped object. A blade has a disc-shaped base plate having a blade edge on an outer periphery of the base plate, a level surface perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the base plate, and a sloped surface opposite the level surface and inclined with respect to the level surface so that a thickness of the blade increases toward a central portion of the blade. The sloped surface is shaped such that an angle of inclination of an outer peripheral portion of the sloped surface with respect to the level surface is larger than an angle of inclination of a remaining portion of the sloped surface with respect to the level surface. The level surface has fine grooves thereon.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an apparatus and method of combining pliers and tubing cutters. The resulting tools offers synergistic results that are unachievable with separate tools. In at least one embodiment, the tubing cutter pliers can be operated by rotating the pliers' handles, cutting the tubing with a cutter wheel on the pliers, and gripping the tubing using the same pliers as was used to cut the tubing. Some intervening steps, particularly, removal of the tubing cutter and replacement of the tubing cutter with pliers, can be eliminated with a resultant increase in efficiency and productivity. In some embodiments, an adjusting mechanism can be provided to offer increased control over the amount of pressure exerted on the tubing by the tubing cutter pliers during the cutting process.

Abstract: A tube cutter having a relative movement generating portion including a relative movement generating portion, a tube cutting base and a tube cutting slider. A manual input portion of the relative movement generating portion is to be held by a user's hand. A cutting blade, two auxiliary rollers and a feeding spring are disposed between the tube cutting base and the tube cutting slider. After the user applying a holding force, the pushing plate will compress the spring in the tube cutting slider so that the cutting blade feeds in. In case the applying force is too large, the entire tube cutting base and the cutting slider will be locked via the stopping plate. Thereby avoiding an over-applying force destroying the pipe to be cut. The tube can be automatically feed in or feed in by a holding force of a hand.

Abstract: The powered tubing cutter is a hand held, mechanical device driven by a motor for cutting tubing/piping. The device comprises a housing, a drive plate, a main drive shaft, a cutting assembly having a cutting blade, a cam plate and a chain drive secured to a motor housing, having a handle, by a mounting bracket. The chain drive is powered by the motor, which causes the main drive shaft to rotate. The cutting assembly is pivotally secured to a pin on the main drive shaft. The pipe/tube to be cut is placed into the hole in the center of the housing and the main drive shaft. As the cutting assembly rotates with the main drive shaft the cam plate forces the cutting blade into cutting engagement with the tube/pipe.

  • Patent number: 7013567
Abstract: A pipe cutter comprises a rotary head having an axis of rotation, and a housing gear is coaxial with the rotary head such that the housing gear and rotary head have a common axis of rotation. A pipe slot extends into the rotary head and the housing gear, and a pipe cradle is provided in the pipe slot, and serves to receive a pipe. A cutting wheel is associated with the rotary head and a wheel biasing member urges the cutting wheel to extend into the pipe slot. A primary drive source is operatively connected to the housing gear by a gear system that rotates the housing gear and the rotary head about the common axis of rotation. Because the cutting wheel is biased to extend into the pipe slot and contacts a pipe placed therein, the cutting wheel revolves around the pipe and cuts into the pipe during rotation of the rotary head. The primary drive source may be manual or automated.

  • Patent number: 7007391
Abstract: The present invention is a C-shaped plastic tubing cutter having a C-shaped grasping portion and a fixed cutting blade. The grasping portion has an opening for receiving the tubing whereby the width of the opening is measurably smaller than the diameter of the tubing to permit snap engagement of the tubing into the grasping portion upon sufficient force and retention therein. In addition, the inner diameter of the grasping portion can be measurably smaller than the outer diameter of the tubing to promote securement of the tubing within the grasping portion to better facilitate precision cutting. Once engaged, a grasping bias force brings the inner surface of the grasping portion into substantial circumferential contact with the tubing to again promote securement and cutting. The circumferential contact is greater than 50 percent, and generally less than 75 percent, of the tubing circumference.
