  • Patent number: 5081768
Abstract: A pipe cutting system includes an annular pipe encircling band member with parallel edge surfaces for encircling the pipe to be cut, releasable structure for securing the band member in pipe encircling configuration, and structure for spacing the edge surfaces of the band from the outer surface of the pipe. A carriage assembly includes two pairs of opposed spaced guide members for engaging opposed edges of the band and providing stable guidance of the carriage assembly around the pipe and structure for fixedly mounting a cutting tool on the carriage assembly. The cutting tool assembly is secured to the carriage assembly for movement relative to the pipe, preferably about a pivot axis parallel to the axis of the pipe, and includes a drive motor, a manual motor control, and a cutter disc coupled to the drive motor and adapted to be driven in rotation by the drive motor in response to the manual motor control.

  • Patent number: 5067438
Abstract: A fish aquarium having structure that produces an improved display for fish and other objects contained therein. The front wall is formed of a transparent material and it has a vertically oriented lower section, a vertically oriented upper section and and angularly oriented central section that connects the upper and lower sections that are laterally offset a predetermined distance from each other. The angularly oriented central section along with the water in the aquarium produces an optical illusion that the material and objects supported in the bottom of the aquarium have a front to rear upwardly oriented appearance. A hermetically sealed elongated light housing is mounted inside the aquarium adjacent the intersection of its top wall and the upper section of its front wall. The florescent lamp in the light housing directs all of its light only in the downward and rearwardly direction which prevents the production of a glare off the water that normally strikes the eyes of a person peering into the aquarium.

  • Patent number: 4958434
Abstract: Hand operable apparatus for shearing thin-wall sleeve members to a precise, selected length without causing sidewall collapse, this apparatus comprising an elongate, generally cylindrical body having a partially hollow interior. An elongate support mandrel is mounted in a cantilever manner on the longitudinal centerline within the cylindrical body, with one end of the mandrel being supported adjacent one end of the generally cylindrical body. The other end of the mandrel is free and of a diameter such that the end of a thin-walled sleeve member to be cut to length can be closely received thereon. A cutoff device is operatively mounted on the generally cylindrical body adjacent the free end of the mandrel, which cutoff device can be brought forcefully into contact with the sleeve member at a selected location. The user can then accomplish shearing of the sleeve member by causing relative rotation between the cylindrical body and the sleeve member.

  • Patent number: 4890385
Abstract: An automatic feed system for a tube cutter is disclosed which automatically feeds a cutting tool into a tube and also automatically resets the cutting tool to its initial position once the tube has been cut. The automatic feed system has a cam element rotatably mounted in a cutting head defining a cam surface eccentric with respect to the axis of rotation of the cam element. A cam follower is formed on a cutting arm which is pivotally attached to the cutting head and has a cutting wheel attached thereto. The eccentric cam surface includes a substantially flat surface portion which lies in a plane extending substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the cam element which, when contacted by the cam follower, allows the pivot arm to assume an initial, retracted position. As the cam element rotates, the eccentric cam surface and the cam follower urge the cutting wheel into the tube wall.

  • Patent number: 4831732
Abstract: A pipe cutter is formed as a cylinder with a longitudinal entry slot into which a pipe can be introduced to rest on rollers 101, 102 by pushing back cutter wheel 110 against a weak biasing spring until it snaps into cutting position. As the cylinder is thereafter manually turned around the pipe, cutter wheel 110 rotates by friction. Its shaft 111 rolls in arcuate slots in yokes 106, and approaches the pipe, so that the cutting edge of wheel 110 enters and severs the pipe. Cutting pressure is exerted by yokes 106 pivoting at 105 outwards so that nodules 106a tend to lift spring-casing 107, secured only at 108, 109 and encounter its prounced inwardly biassing force.

  • Patent number: 4802278
Abstract: A tube cutting tool is described in which a cutting head is rotatably mounted within a cutting body wherein both define "C" shaped slots to enable the cutting tool to be inserted laterally over a tube. A cutting wheel is attached to the cutting head such that rotation of the cutting head causes the wheel to pass around the periphery of the tube. A feed device is incorporated which biases the cutting wheel into contact with the tube until the tubing wall has been completely severed. A gear drive mechanism interconnects a power source with the cutting head to rotate it about the tube. A clamping system is also disclosed to clamp the device onto the tube during the cutting process.

  • Patent number: 4422238
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cutting tool which is utilized to sever a cylindrical body such as a cylindrical shroud of a factory-sealed vehicular suspension system of the type commonly referred to as a MacPherson strut suspension system. The tool is designed with a construction which permits the tool to sever the cylindrical shroud while the shroud remains attached to the vehicle. The tool comprises an upper control mechanism which is mechanically coupled to a lower cutting assembly by means of a pair of coaxial elongate tubes. The lower cutting assembly includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced, rotatable cutting wheels which are radially movable between a retracted position and an expanded position. • Patent number: 4227431
Abstract: An elongated cylindrical mandrel holds a dummy electrical connector receptacle at one end, and slidably carries a concentric tubular carrier which is biased towards the dummy receptacle. A plurality of circumferentially spaced spindles are hinge mounted at their one end to the carrier for pivoting angularly with respect to the carrier axis and carry cutter wheels on their outboard ends. A slide closer concentrically surrounds the carrier, is axially displaceable, and bears cam surfaces contacting the spindles to cause the spindles to pivot inwardly towards the dummy receptacle. When the mandrel is projected, the receptacle receives in attachment the electrical connector plug bearing the tubular bayonet coupling ring to be severed. A stop limits the pivoting of the spindles and cutter wheels to permit the ring to be severed circumferentially without damage to the plug or its wiring.
