  • Patent number: 11814935
Abstract: Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for increasing accuracy of firing perforating charges in an oil well casing. In one implementation, a body of an orientation device has a first portion and a second portion. An opening extends through a center of the body from a first lateral surface to a second lateral surface, and the opening is configured to receive a perforating gun string. An outer perimeter surface extends about the center of the body from the first lateral surface to the second lateral surface. The outer perimeter surface has a first shape associated with the first portion and a second shape associated with the second portion. The second shape forms a base portion configured to maintain the perforating gun string in an orientation by preventing rotation of the perforating gun string. The orientation corresponds to a predetermined perforating charge direction of the perforating gun string.

Abstract: A pipe cutter having guidance means for cutting a pipe on a plane generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. A power tool imparts a rotational torque to a shaft having a circular cutting blade carried thereon at substantially right angles thereto. The guidance means, having a pipe contacting surface, is journalled onto the end of the shaft, so that rotation of the shaft and blade will not cause rotation of the guidance means. The method involves aligning the rotating blade at a preselected cutting point, imbedding the blade into the walls of the pipe until an arcuate portion of said walls is cut, and thereafter imparting an orbital motion to the shaft about the pipe axis to achieve the pipe cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4220201
Abstract: A lower portion of water well casing in the ground is perforated by means of a toothed wheel journalled on the end of an arm pivotally carried by an elongated perforator body. The perforator body carries an air driven piston and actuator link connected to pivot the arm and wheel downwardly from an upward retracted position to a lower start position in which a point of one tooth and a flat end of an adjacent tooth contact the interior of the casing. In this start position the axis of rotation of the wheel is in an over-center position, below a line between the arm pivot axis and the point of the upper one of the two teeth that contact the casing surface. In this over-center start position, the perforator body is pulled upwardly so that the wheel teeth are pressed outwardly against the casing surface with great force by the over-center arrangement which urges the wheel axis closer to the casing.

Abstract: A well casing perforator adapted to be used with pneumatically powered rotary drilling equipment. It includes an upright elongated body which is inserted within the casing. The body is attached to the lower end of a drill rod which imparts vertical or angular movement to the elongated body while within the casing. The body is guided axially within the casing by rollers which engage the interior casing wall. A rotatable wheel has teeth capable of penetrating the casing wall as the wheel rolls in engagement with the casing. The wheel is mounted at the outer end of a carrier pivoted to the elongated body about a horizontal axis. The carrier in turn is controlled by a piston assembly subject to pneumatic pressure within the drill rod. The piston assembly is pivotally connected to the carrier to move it from a first position at which the wheel is retracted from engagement with the casing to a second position at which the wheel engages the interior wall of the casing.

Abstract: Apparatus for removing the internal bead from a polyethylene pipe joint, that has been fabricated by the fusion process, comprising a torque tube of sufficient length to reach from the open end of the pipe to the joint from which the internal bead is to be removed. At the distal end of the torque tube is a cutter head, which includes a blade set at the proper angle to contact the inner surface of the pipe. This blade is mounted on an arm which has a hub to which the torque tube can be attached. A support frame has two legs and is pivoted to the cutter arm in such a way that when the torque tube and cutter arm are turned counterclockwise, the blade is pulled away from contact with the internal surface of the pipe. When the torque tube and arm are turned clockwise, the arm rotates about its pivot on the support frame and comes into a position such that the blade is opposite the support legs, and locks against a stop pin. The cutter blade in that position is pressed against the inner surface of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 3942248
Abstract: A pipe cutting device comprises a split frame which may be clamped around the circumference of a pipe (either inside or outside of the pipe). Floatingly or freely mounted on the rollers carried by the frame, to rotate about the pipe, is a ring gear having at least one arcuate arm mounted thereon to rotate with the gear as it turns around the pipe. At one end, the arm is pivotally mounted on the ring gear. At the other end, the arm is selectively biased toward the pipe by a compression spring or other suitable force. This way, a blade mounted on the arm may be driven into the pipe by a controlled amount. A gear train selectively raises or lowers the blade with respect to the surface of the pipe depending upon the position of a clutch arrangement. A special feature of the cutter is that it is easily adapted to cut from either the outside or the inside surface of a pipe.
