  • Patent number: 5633902
Abstract: A metal cutting motor driven saw blade carried by a housing structure for anchoring inside the fuel storage cell forms part of apparatus that is used in method to reduce the volume of radiologically contaminated metal racks after use for storing nuclear fuel assemblies under water in a storage pool. The motor driven saw is supported by a linear bearing that can be displaced by an actuator laterally with respect to a housing structure which is provided with piston and cylinder assemblies on two adjacent side walls to serve as releasable anchors. The linear actuator presses the saw blade against a side wall of a fuel storage cell causing part of a blade segment to penetrate the side wall. Thereafter, a drive shaft supported by bearings in the housing structure is rotated to displace the motor driven saw about a radial path of travel for severing the remaining portions of the wall of the fuel cell.

  • Patent number: 5499453
Abstract: The herein referenced invention belongs in general relation to tubing cutters. The invention specifically relates to an internal tubing cutter, one which is lightweight and portable and adapted for cutting synthetic resin pipe and toilet flanges. The apparatus has a plurality of radially extensible and retractable cutting means (14), snub pins (24), guide channels (22), and connecting arbor (10). Several blades rotating perpendicular to the central vertical axis facilitate the means to shear the flanged drainage pipe. A reference disk (12) provides an adequate stop for the tool when depended into the downcomer, provides additional stability, and provides protection to the user from any airborne material.

  • Patent number: 4466185
Abstract: A pipe cutter is provided whereby a pipe or workpiece is cut from the inside out said cut accomplished by rotating cutters that are mounted on the ends of pivoted sliding guides wherein the guides are pivoted at the end opposite to that of the cutters and the pivoting action expands the end of the guides wherein the cutters are attached and by driving the pivoted sliding guides by a rotating motion the inside wall of the workpiece will be cut.

  • Patent number: 4424629
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a pipe includes a housing member comprising a cutter body member having a collar. The cutter body member is configured at one end for insertion into a portion of the pipe to be cut. A piston chamber within the cutter body member is in communication with an aperture in the surface of the cutter body member. The collar preferably is a flange which is positioned at the other end of the cutter body. The flange extends in spaced relationship about the cutter body toward the pipe portion to be cut and is configured so as to overlay the portion of the pipe to be cut. A cutter wheel is rotatably disposed on a piston which is slidably moveable within the piston chamber. A hydraulically controlled mechanism is provided for advancing the cutter wheel toward the portion of the pipe to be cut so as to provide for cutting of the pipe at a predetermined depth of penetration.

  • Patent number: 4369573
Abstract: A pipe cutter for cutting the wall of a pipe from within the bore of the pipe. The cutter includes a blade and mechanisms for supporting the blade within the pipe to be cut, urging the blade outwardly of the pipe to engage it with the pipe wall and moving the blade relative to the pipe so that the blade cuts the wall. The cutter may include an expansible gripper assembly for engaging the pipe wall to retain the blade against movement axially of the pipe during the cutting operation. The gripper assembly is preferably operative upon operation of the blade movement mechanism. The blade may be a circular saw, the blade movement mechanism may be arranged to move the saw in orbital fashion around the axis of the pipe and the gripper assembly may be connected to the blade so that the gripper assembly prevents rotation of the saw about its axis during the cutting operation. When this arrangement is utilized, all of the teeth of the saw are successively engaged with the pipe wall.

  • Patent number: 4177559
Abstract: An internal pipe cutter comprises a rotatable mandrel having a cutting drum and a guide drum mounted thereon. The guide drum is longitudinally adjustable relative to the cutting drum and controls the depth at which the cutting drum is received inside the pipe. The cutting drum includes a slidably mounted cutter which is projected outwardly into engagement with the pipe by centrifugal force. The cutter comprises a slider block having a radially adjustable cutting blade. In addition, one surface of the cutting drum has an access slot which communicates with the slider block enclosed inside the drum. The access slot allows a tool to be inserted into the cutting drum as necessary to unjam the cutter without having to dismantle the cutting drum.

  • Patent number: 4143463
Abstract: An auxiliary device for laying flexible wall and floor coverings includes an elongated angle plate having a supporting surface for the material to be cut to size and a pressure strip having a lower pressure surface of approximately the same length as the supporting surface and which has a cross-sectional profile which is configured to complement the profile of the supporting surface. The supporting surface has at one end a wedge-shaped end portion, the outer edge of which defines a supporting edge, and a cutting edge defined at its opposite end, which edges lie in a base plane. The angle plate also includes a part having a locating edge disposed parallel to the cutting edge. The angle plate in cross-sections lies substantially within an imaginary triangle, with its cutting edge, supporting edge and locating edge passing through one corner of the triangle.
