  • Patent number: 11752653
Abstract: A cutting device for cutting a pipe having a pipe wall includes an elongate carrier having a tool end which is engageable with a power tool, and a free end. The device includes a guide wheel located at the free end of the carrier, which is mounted thereon for rotation relative thereto, having a bearing surface extending parallel to a longitudinal axis of the carrier. The device also includes a cutting element having a peripheral cutting edge which is located adjacent to the guide wheel being positioned intermediate the guide wheel and the tool end. The cutting element is of greater transverse dimension than the guide wheel so that when the bearing surface bears against an internal surface of the pipe the distance between the cutting edge of the cutting element and the bearing surface enables the cutting element to cut through the pipe wall.

  • Patent number: 10258792
Abstract: In some embodiments, without limitation, the invention comprises an apparatus for cutting an endocardial lead within a patient. The apparatus comprises a generally flexible tubular member having a proximal end and distal end. At least one blade or cutting surface is affixed to the distal end of the tubular member. The apparatus optionally includes an adjustment mechanism adapted to adjust the blade or cutting surface between an extended position and a retracted position. The blade or cutting surface engages the endocardial lead to cut the lead. Various embodiments include a v-shaped groove defining the cutting surfaces. Other embodiments may comprise a rotatable blade of an inner shaft rotating within the tubular member and cutting the lead received within the v-shaped groove, and blades or cutting surfaces functioning like guillotines or scissors retracting into a distal end of the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 5685078
Abstract: A device for cutting pipe internally includes an annular cutter head having a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings therethrough, a stepped drive shaft extending from the cutter head and having a longitudinal bore therethrough and an adapter at the distal end of the drive shaft for connection to a rotary drive member. A frustoconical mandrel has a threaded rod extending from one end thereof through the shaft bore to the distal end of the shaft where it threadably engages a nut held stationary with respect to the drive shaft. The mandrel has a plurality of inverted T-shaped slots extending along the frustoconical side thereof, each slot receiving the T-shaped projection on a cutter body. Each cutter body has a rotatable cutter wheel mounted thereon, the wheel being adapted to project through a corresponding opening in the cutter head. Rotation of the drive shaft by the rotary drive member will cause rotation of the mandrel and the threaded rod.

  • Patent number: 4841636
Abstract: A positive drive mechanism is provided to operate an internal tube cutter. The tube cutter has a body insertable into a tube to be severed, and a wedge-shaped slide supporting a cutting wheel on a forward portion of the cutter body. The slide and cutting wheel are movable toward and away from the tube. An elongated member is mounted through the cutter body for movement longitudinally thereof in one direction to cause outward radial movement of the slide and advancement of the cutting wheel toward and into contact with the tube to cause severing of the same upon rotation of the cutter body and in an opposite direction to permit inward radial movement of the slide and retraction of the cutting wheel away from and out of contact with the tube.

  • Patent number: 4621549
Abstract: A precision internal tube cutter can sever an upper end portion of a guide thimble inserted and attached within a passageway of a top nozzle adapter plate of an irradiated fuel assembly so as to facilitate reconstitution of the fuel assembly. Further, the upper end portion of the thimble can be cut without producing any burrs, roughness or distortion at the cut end. The cutter includes a body with upper and lower end portions of greater diameter sizes than that of an intermediate portion which interconnects them. A stem extends into an axial bore formed longitudinally through the body. A radial slot is defined within the intermediate body portion. In one embodiment, a pair of slides each with a cutting wheel rotatably mounted thereto are mounted within the slot. A lower conical end of the stem engages the slides and axial movement of the stem will cause radial movement of the slides.
