  • Patent number: 4880335
Abstract: An apparatus having improved safety and performance characteristics for the removal of a coating from a tubular member, and particularly adapted for the removal of a concrete weight coat from submerged oil pipelines, comprising a generally C-shaped rigid frame member which is maintained in proper alignment by contact with the upper coated surface, is provided with a plurality of opposed, inwardly directed driven crusher blades located proximate the ends of the frame member and controlled driving means which are adapted to move the crusher blades. The method comprises positioning the apparatus on the coated pipeline, crushing the coating, raising the entire apparatus to free the fractured coating from the pipeline, retracting the crusher blades, and moving the apparatus to a new position on the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 4776248
Abstract: A pipe cutting machine having a pair of parallel, horizontal driven rollers for supporting and rotating the work to be circumferentially cut. A cutter head assembly includes a free rotating cutter wheel on a shaft generally parallel to the driven rollers. Coarse vertical positioning of the cutter head is effected by sliding it up or down over a generally vertical support column. Detenting of this vertical positioning is effected by a spring-loaded pin engaging a selected groove among a plurality of vertically spaced, horizontally extending grooves associated with the vertical column. Vernier advancement of the cutter into the work is accomplished by an eccentric and lever arrangement associated with the cutter head assembly.A gear box arrangement couples the torque of a driving motor, which may be permanently or removably attached, providing drive to the rollers and to a reamer. A hand drill is shown positioned to provide motive power.

  • Patent number: 4769911
Abstract: A pipe cutting device comprises a housing to which a tool case is attached to be rotatable, and by rotating manually or electrically the tool case so that the openings of the tool case and a follow-up gear disposed in the tool case substantially align with the opening provided for the housing, is formed a pipe inserting passage for inserting a pipe from the opening side of the openings of these members towards the central portion of the tool case. Two driving gears meshed with the follow-up gear are driven by a motor through the power transmission mechanism to rotate the tool case. The rotation of the tool case drives the cam roller to operate the cam plate, and the clutch arm is rotated by predetermined angles by every one rotation of the tool case thereby to minutely rotate the eccentric cam by predetermined angles through the one-way clutch. The rotation of the eccentric cam rotates the lever mechanism which is operatively connected to the cutter.

  • Patent number: 4763413
Abstract: A chain tube cutter has two plier-like levers with hand grips on one side of a pivot pin which projects from one lever through a slot in the other and chain-engaging arms on the other side of the pivot pin. A link cutting chain is secured to one arm. The other arm has notches for engaging a selected link of the chain after it is wrapped around the tube to be cut. Squeezing the hand grips together generally keeps the chain adjusted about the tube as it is cut by rotating the cutter relative to the tube, but to provide greater initial and operational adjustment, the pivot pin is variably positionable in the slot.

Abstract: Tool for cutting of plastic tubes comprises an arm portion (1) and at the end of the arm portion a first jaw (2) and a second jaw (3) forming an opening (4) therebetween for insertion of a plastic tube (10) into the opening. The tube is arranged to be cut by a rotational movement (A) of the tool and the tube relative to each other and for accomplishing this, the first jaw (2) is provided with a circular cutting blade (6) and the second jaw (3) is provided with several support areas (9a, 9b, 9c, 9d) for accomodating of tubes of diferent sizes, the areas having each an arcuate surface. The support areas are arranged, as seen in the insertion direction (B), one after the other so that of two successive areas (9a, 9b), the area (9a) further back is adapted to hold a tube of smaller size than the area (9b) in front of it.

  • Patent number: 4694574
Abstract: A pipe scraper for scraping the end of a plastics pipe such as a plastics gas main or water main has a framework (10) in which is journaled a helically bladed rotary cutter (14) driven by means of a lever (17). On the shaft carrying the cutter is a pinion (16) which meshes with a larger pinion (19) driving a friction surface roller (21). The cutter is held in a Reed clamp and as the lever (17) is turned it rotates the helically bladed rotary cutter so as to scrape a low angle helical scrape approximating a longitudinal scrape. At the same time the rotation of the roller (21) causes the whole framework to rotate around the surface of the pipe so as to scrape the whole end peripheral surface.

  • Patent number: 4689883
Abstract: An apparatus for simultaneously cutting and beveling plastic pipe such as water or sewer pipe is described. This apparatus includes a rotatable cutting head on which inclined and protruding cutting edges are provided to cut and bevel the pipe. The cutting head is mounted in a housing the lower surfaces of which include two convex pipe engaging regions positioned on either side of the cutting head which are contoured to contact the pipe and maintain the cutting head in proper cutting and beveling relation to the pipe when the housing is moved laterally or angularly relative to the pipe. Concave pipe engaging regions flank the convex regions to maintain the housing in contact with the pipe. The cutting bits are tapered to aid in retaining them in position in the cutting head.

  • Patent number: 4092774
Abstract: A cutting device particularly adapted for cutting plastic tubing is provided and includes a first and second elongated handle member. The handle members are pivotally secured together at one end so that the handle members are movable relative to each other between an open and closed position. Semicircular and facing recesses are formed along the inner side of the handle members which correspond in shape to the outer periphery of the plastic tubing which is to be cut. Thus, with the plastic tubing between the handle members the handle members are moved to their closed position which clampingly engages the plastic tubing between the semicircular recesses. A cutting blade is pivotally secured to one of the handle members so that the cutting blade can be moved across the handle members to cut the plastic tubing.

  • Patent number: 3938412
Abstract: Glass ampules are individual hermetically sealed units containing liquid medication. Some United States manufactured ampules and a large proportion of foreign ampules are available as unscored. In order to open and withdraw the contents of such ampules they have to be scored. This is generally done with a small steel file. The proposed invention consists of a guillotine type device wherein a small steel file is held in a slit arrangement in the lower and upper portion of the guillotine on which the ampule neck is rotated thereby scoring the ampule neck which is subsequently snapped off. The lower and upper parts of the guillotine have two (2) guide posts which permit the top portion thereof to move up and down to accomodate and score all size ampules from 1cc to 50cc inclusive.
