Abstract: A municipal wireless network includes a base unit having a twist-style electrical plug that mates with an electrical receptacle on a typical streetlamp. Within the base-unit interior is a long-range wireless transceiver, such as that commonly referred to as Wi-Fi. The transceiver is in wireless communication with a central hub that is connected to a server via a wired or wireless phone system. Accordingly, when a base unit is connected to each of the streetlamps within a given jurisdiction, a universal wireless network is established.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to techniques for determining respective locations of radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags distributed within a materials handling facility using planogram data that indicates respective item locations of items in the facility. In some examples, the techniques utilize item-identifying carts that automatically identify items that the users place in their carts as they move around a facility. Upon identifying an item, the identity of the item may be provided from the cart to one or more servers, along with an indication of an RFID tag detected by an RFID reader mounted to the cart. Upon receiving the identity of the item and the indication of the RFID tag, the servers may access the planogram data for the facility to determine an item location of the item within the facility and may associate this item location as the location of the RFID tag.

  • Patent number: 11687753
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention employ frequency selective surfaces that resonate at defined frequencies depending on geometry. Tag-based embodiments allow the ability to have passive, battery-free, systems that can be used for applications including but not limited to inventory tracking, locating, and indoor radar (e.g. determining whether something labeled with a tag is in range of a particular wireless network signal). The shape of the resonator, among other available factors, influences the interference frequency. Embodiments may include metal based tags on a non-conductive material that will be used to disturb, for example, frequencies from 3 KHz to 300 GHz. These disturbances at specific resonant frequencies are useable to, for example, locate the tags/labels using WiFi Mapping, sending a WiFi signal and getting unique feedback on a router.

Abstract: An antenna control apparatus according to an embodiment includes a communication interface configured to receive identification information indicating whether each of a plurality of antennas received transmission information from a wireless tag. A storage unit stores a count for each of the plurality of antennas. A controller determines, for each of the plurality of antennas, whether the antenna received transmission information from a wireless tag based on a first received identification information. When at least one, but not all, of the plurality of antennas is determined to have not received transmission information from a wireless tag based on the first received identification information, the storage unit increments the count for each such antenna. When the count for one of the plurality of antennas is determined to exceed the predetermined value, the controller outputs a notification signal indicating that the one of the plurality of antennas has a malfunction.
