  • Patent number: 8711181
Abstract: A pre-fetching map data system and method identifies a subset of map data to corresponding to one or more points of interest to be displayed on the map. The map data is stored on a remote map database and in the form of map data tiles. The system identifies those map data tiles that correspond to the subset of map data corresponding to the one or more points of interest, where the identified pre-fetch map data tiles are sent from the remote database to a client device for cache storage. The pre-fetch map data tiles are identified using a variable map tile radius, which when extended from the points of interest defines the map tiles that qualify as pre-fetch map data tiles. The tile radius can be fixed or dynamically adjusted and changes across different map zoom levels.

  • Patent number: 8711184
Abstract: A method of generating an image of a scalable graphical object for reproduction on a display device is disclosed. The method provides a pixel map and a scaling factor, the map being a representation of at least of portion of the image with each pixel of the map corresponding to a pixel of the image and having a corresponding pixel coverage representation. The method, for at least one pixel in the map, identifies the pixel coverage representation associated with the pixel, and determines a pixel coverage value for the pixel using the pixel coverage representation and the scaling factor. The method then renders the scalable graphical object using the determined pixel coverage value for the pixel on the display device.

Abstract: A map interface presents a geographic map with markers identifying geographic locations associated with content items. When the geographic distance between two or more content items is less than a threshold distance, multiple content items are grouped to create an aggregated content item. Based on the geographic locations associated with the grouped content items, a geographic location is associated with the aggregated content item. A single marker identifies the geographic location for the aggregated content item on the geographic map. When a user viewing the map interface accesses the single marker, content selected from the content items combined to generated the aggregated content item is presented as well as the geographic location associated with the aggregated content item.

Abstract: A method is provided that utilizes a parallel processing system to determine whether different geometries intersect each tile in a map hierarchy. The method receives a description of a geometry and an identification of a tile in a tile tree. The method utilizes an available processing unit to determine whether the geometry intersects the tile. When the geometry intersects the tile and the tile has child tiles, the method stores several task descriptions that can be assigned to any processing units in the parallel processing system. Each task description includes the description of the portion of the geometry that overlaps the tile and an identification of one of the child tiles of the tile. The method then assigns each of the tasks to an available processing unit to continue down the tree hierarchy to determine whether each child tile intersects a portion of the geometry.

In addition, margin pixels for each region are defined as pixels that correspond to a top margin, a bottom margin, a left margin, and a right margin of each region of the digital image. Margin pixels are generated by using various techniques such as on-the-fly generation, using data information of neighboring pixels to each region, using data information of pixels within each region, or using predetermined data information for a color including black. The pixels of each region are processed with its margin pixels to create a new processed region of the digital image. The processing may include scaling of each region from a first resolution to a second resolution. Abstract: According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus comprises a display control module, a display magnification setting module, and a receiver. The display control module includes at least one hardware processor and is adapted to display an image, including a first area and a second are, and a cursor moved in the image on a display device. The display magnification setting module is configured to set display magnification of the first area. The receiver is configured to receive a movement signal of the cursor. Herein, the display control module adjusts the cursor by (i) a first distance in response to the display magnification of the first area being set to a first display magnification and (ii) a second distance that is longer than the first distance in response to the display magnification of the first area being set to a second display magnification that is larger than the first display magnification.

Abstract: Computer program products and arrangements to process digital data are contemplated. The digital data may contain values, representing quantities of a wave form over regions. Embodiments include transformations, code, state machines or other logic to process digital data by dividing one of the regions, where one of the values represents a quantity of a wave form over the region. The embodiments may include assigning a value to each of the subregions. The average of the values of the subregions, weighted by the measures of the subregions, may approximately equal the value of the region. The regions may comprise pixels and the values of the pixels may represent the intensity of light waves over the pixels. The embodiments may include the processing of digital data in cameras, televisions, audio players, seismic devices, and medical imaging devices. The subdivision of regions and the assignment of value to the subregions may utilize derivative migration.

Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure may describe techniques to display a static image with reduced power consumption. In some examples, a graphics processing unit (GPU) may retrieve the static image from a system memory, scale the static image to a reduced spatial resolution version of the static image, and store the reduced spatial resolution version of the static image in local memory. A display processor may retrieve the reduced spatial resolution version of the static image from local memory. The display processor may rescale the reduced spatial resolution version of the static image, and display the rescaled image on a display for presentation.

Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for receiving user input. A computing system recognizes a touch input gesture that includes a first touch input in a first zone of a touchscreen that occurs simultaneous with a second touch input in a second zone of the touchscreen. The first and second zones of the touchscreen abut a periphery of the touchscreen and have been established by the computing system as being zones for causing the computing system to react to touch input in a particular manner, in contrast to at least another zone of the touchscreen for which the computing system does not react to touch input in the particular manner. The computing system modifies, in response to recognizing the touch input gesture, a display of the touchscreen to react in the particular manner.

Abstract: A display device to change an image displayed in a display area when the display area is changed includes a memory, a location output unit and a screen display unit. The memory stores size information of a display area displayed on a screen and the image data of the displayed image. The location computing unit computes a start point of the changed display area when the display area is changed. The display unit decodes data corresponding to the size of the display area based on the computed new start point from the image data to display the decoded data in the display area. Since the start point is obtained with center point of the changed display area and its size information and then a display area to be displayed is determined based on the start point, a current search location is maintained even when the screen is swung.

  • Publication number: 20120287163
Abstract: A mechanism is disclosed for automatically scaling the size of a set of visual content based upon how close a user's face is to a display. In one implementation, the mechanism initially causes a set of visual content on a display to be sized according to a first scaling factor when the user's face is at a first distance from the display. The mechanism then determines that the user's face has moved relative to the display such that the user's face is no longer at the first distance from the display. In response, the mechanism causes the set of visual content on the display to be sized according to a second and different scaling factor. By doing so, the mechanism effectively causes the display size of the visual content to automatically change as the distance between the user's face and the display changes.
