Abstract: A node receives information that is to be transmitted to a destination. Upon receipt of the information, the node may query a busy device list to determine an availability of one or more neighbor nodes. The node may then identify a neighbor node that, according to the busy device list, is available to receive transmissions and is capable of propagating the information to the destination. The node may then transmit the information to the identified neighbor node.

Abstract: Contiguous data packets of a single communication session between endpoints are gathered for compression, and at least the payloads are compressed collectively via a single compressible buffer. The original headers, which may or may not be compressed, and the compressed payloads are transmitted from a sending packet compression device to a receiving packet compression device that performs decompression to the compressed payload and may also decompress headers if they have been compressed at the sending end. The original contiguous data packets including headers and payload may be reconstructed at the receiving packet compression device by matching the headers to the corresponding payloads. The reconstructed data packets are injected back into the single communication session, and the presence of the original headers in the reconstructed data packets may thereby maintain the endpoint-to-endpoint authentication protocols.

Abstract: In a network system in which a switch forwarding packets and a control server determining route information are separated, it is desired to achieve a redundancy of the control channel by an out-of-band control channel and an in-band control channel, when the switch receives a control message regarding the flow entry registration and the like based on the route information from the control server. Specifically, the separated switch and control server are connected by a control channel for sending and receiving the control message. The switch is not only connected to a control server via an out-of-band control channel by a route dedicated to the control message, but also connected to another control server via an in-band control channel by a route which is common with a normal data communication for determining the route information, to achieve a redundancy of the control channel.

  • Patent number: 8270316
Abstract: An on-chip Radio Frequency (RF) Interconnect (RF-I) for communication between internal circuit nodes of an integrated circuit is provided. In one embodiment, an integrated circuit is provided that includes an on-chip transmission line, a first circuit node associated with an RF transmitter connected to the transmission line, and a second circuit node associated with an RF receiver connected to the transmission line. In order to transmit data from the first circuit node to the second circuit node, the RF transmitter associated with the first circuit node modulates the data onto an RF carrier frequency to provide a modulated RF signal and transmits the modulated RF signal over the transmission line. The RF receiver associated with the second circuit node receives the modulated RF signal from the transmission line and demodulates the modulated RF signal to recover the data for the second circuit node.

Abstract: IMS networks and methods are disclosed for storing information on the access network of a user in a subscriber profile for the user. When a communication device of a user attempts to register with an IMS network, a P-CSCF receives a register request message from the communication device, and identifies access network information for the user. The P-CSCF then transmits another register request message to an S-CSCF that includes the access network information, and the S-CSCF in turn forwards the access network information to an HSS. The HSS then stores the access network information in the subscriber profile for the user. Nodes in the IMS network that retrieve the subscriber profile may acquire the access network information to provide services based on the access network information.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for tracking, recording and distributing link state characteristics over communications networks. The invention allows network operators to efficiently define, track, store and disseminate link state characteristics using a bit-field-encoded resource record that is capable of representing many more link state characteristics than the bit-mask-encoded records used in existing systems. As a result, the present invention, when used in conjunction with standard routing and network maintenance algorithms, provides a much more efficient method than existing systems provide, for performing sophisticated networking tasks, such as handling complicated information transmission requests, setting up and tearing down network paths, and making dynamic routing decisions.

  • Patent number: 8254256
Abstract: Various systems and methods that synchronize local copies of a variable used in a distributed algorithm, such as that used in distributed policing, are disclosed. For example, one system includes several distributed algorithm participants that are coupled to communicate with each other. Each of the each of the distributed algorithm participants maintains a shared variable in order to implement the distributed algorithm. One of the distributed algorithm participants is a synchronizer. The synchronizer is configured to calculate a new value of the shared variable and to communicate the new value to each of the other distributed algorithm participants. The distributed algorithm can be a distributed policing algorithm, and the shared variable can be a global bucket.

Abstract: A terminal transmits a request for a resource assignment to a base station, and acquires a value of a resource for data transmission. The terminal does not transmit the new data to the base station when the resource for data transmission does not exist, and transmits the new data to the base station otherwise, after acquiring the value. The terminal autonomously transmits, when the new data is transmitted to the base station and a NAK signal is received from the base station, the retransmission data to the base station without sending a transmission request to the base station for resources to transmit the retransmission data.

Abstract: Power consumption on GMPLS controlled networks can be reduced by cutting power consumption on spare paths that are not normally used. To achieve power consumption reduction, in the path setting process, a path is calculated while taking the power saving capability of each interface into account, and the applicable interface is set to the power-saving state when setting the spare path. When the spare path was set to the operating state, then the power-saving state on the applicable interface was canceled so that interface could operate normally.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a communication network wherein a direct tunnel may be formed between a user equipment and a gateway support node, bypassing an intermediate serving support node. If, however, the gateway node should be outside of the actual communication network to which the user equipment is connected, a two-tunnel concept is used wherein a tunnel is provided between the user equipment and the serving support node. Likewise, when receiving a request for Lawful Interception, the tunnel formed between the user equipment and the gateway node is reconfigured to be directed to the serving node for guiding all user traffic and control signaling via this serving node.
