  • Patent number: 7953024
Abstract: The invention provides an improved architecture for credit based flow control. Briefly, the memory space within the receiving switch is separated into two parts, a statically allocated portion and a dynamically allocated portion. Packets are first placed in the dynamically allocated portion, and the credits are returned immediately. When the dynamically allocated portion has no additional space, the packets are then stored in the memory portion statically allocated to the specific virtual circuit. Credits are returned when the packets are removed from the statically allocated memory portion. This scenario allows the immediate return of credits when there is space available in the dynamically allocated memory portion. It also allows improved sharing of the overall memory since more of the overall memory can be made available to a particular virtual circuit.

Abstract: A network interworking facility (24) advantageously interworks Ethernet and ATM networks (22, 26) having different protocols to permit the data from in one network to pass to the other and vice versa without the need for the source in to account for the protocol of the destination. Upon receipt of an information frame from the source, the interworking facility forms a second frame of a format compatible with the destination network and including the information payload from the first frame. The interworking facility also maps the destination address incorporated in the origin frame to a corresponding destination address of a format compatible with the destination network to facilitate forwarding of the second frame to the destination.

Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention is an efficient interconnecting bus. A first clock source generates a first clock signal at a first frequency on a link bus line synchronized with first data to be transmitted to a device. The device has a second clock source to generate a second clock signal at a second frequency synchronized with second data when the device transmits the second data. The first and second data each forms a packet being one of a posted, completion, and non-posted packets. The first and second frequencies are independent of each other and bounded within first and second frequency ranges, respectively. A queue structure stores packets used in a credit-based flow control policy.

  • Patent number: 7940758
Abstract: A technique is disclosed that enables a set of information to be represented by data packets, where those data packets can then be distributed as needed throughout the telecommunications system that uses the data. The data packet of the illustrative embodiment is an autonomous encapsulation of data, a subsection of a data model at a certain time in relation to other data in the system at another time. The data packet is identified at a particular time and value with a globally unique identifier. Relationships of the data packet to other data packets are made known by using references to the other packets. As a result, referenced data packets are retrieved throughout the system based on their relationships to each other. Whenever a data packet is transmitted or received, each node involved in the transmission applies rules that determine where the data has to be transmitted to and what to do with the data when received.

Abstract: A network system and method of testing the terminal status so as to acquire the link status of the wired/wireless terminals associated to the VoIP-based network includes at least one user terminal which transmits a status message in response to a SIP-based Options message and a soft switch which transmits the Option message, determines whether or not the status message has been received, and recognizes whether the user terminal is in a Busy state or an Idle state based on a result of the determination. Since the terminal status can be accurately determined, it is possible to process calls, manage the terminal, and fairly charge the utilization costs to improve the stability and QoS of the network system.

  • Patent number: 7808954
Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling a data rate in a communication system. A transmitter sets threshold values for classifying Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) levels. When receiving information about an MCS level desired to be used in the receiver, the transmitter sets an MCS level to be actually used in the receiver and transmits information about the set MCS level to the receiver. When detecting that the information is to be transmitted to the transmitter, the receiver computes instantaneous link capacity using a channel estimation result, sets an MCS level mapped to the instantaneous link capacity, and transmits information about the set MCS level to the transmitter. The receiver receives the information about the MCS level to be actually used from the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7801124
Abstract: Method, systems, and computer program products for identifying the application-level protocol of a signaling message are disclosed. According to one method, a message copied by a network monitoring system is received. The service indicator in the message is examined to determine whether more than one application-level protocol is possible. If more than one application-level protocol is not possible, the application-level protocol is identified based on the service indicator. If more than one application-level protocol is possible, additional message attributes are individually examined to determine whether identification of the application-level protocol is possible based on each attribute. The application-level protocol is identified based on the first attribute for which identification is determined to be possible.

Abstract: In at least one embodiment of the disclosure an electronic device includes a search unit configured to search wireless communication devices for channels provided for establishing an ad hoc network. A measuring unit is configured to measure a receiving level of wireless signals received from the devices found by the search. An allocation unit is configured to generate an allocation result for the channels by adding a predetermined weight to each of the channels based on the strength of the measured receiving level of the wireless signals. A calculating unit is configured to calculate a radio interference power for each of the channels based on the allocation result obtained by the allocation unit. An establishing unit is configured to select the channel having a smallest radio interference power as calculated by the calculating unit and establish the ad hoc network for the selected channel.

  • Patent number: 7787474
Abstract: A method and apparatus for deep packet processing including a parsing and a searching method supported by a data structure storing the state-transition rules in the state-transition rule tables of a programmable state machine for parsing. The state-transition rule table is then compressed using the BaRT compression algorithm. Each transition rule comprises a test value, a test mask and a next state field. In a second embodiment the state-transition rule table is split into more than one state-transition rule table corresponding to disjoints state spaces, thus allowing more flexibility in the use of storage space. Finally a parsing and searching method can be implemented using the same hardware. The searching and parsing methods can be implemented alternatively or in any combination at wire-speed.

  • Patent number: 7778274
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for addressing compatibility in a session protocol environment is provided that includes a communications platform operable to communicate with a first endpoint and a second endpoint and to recognize signaling capabilities of the first and second endpoints. The apparatus also includes a media termination point (MTP) operable to communicate with the endpoints and the communications platform, the media termination point being provisioned by the communications platform in a stream that involves the first and second endpoints if a signaling compatibility issue is present amongst the endpoints. If an out-of-band digit from the first endpoint is received by the communications platform, the out-of-band digit is sent to the MTP, which is operable to inject a digit associated with the second protocol into the communication session such that a mapping occurs between the digits for the first and second protocols.
