  • Publication number: 20090269158
Abstract: A convertible anchor (H) for friable walls (W) comprises a fixture (12) for holding an article to a wall (W, M) and an anchoring mechanism (10) extending from the fixture (12). The anchoring mechanism (10) is adapted when rotated to engagingly extend into a friable wall (W) for securing the fixture (12) to the wail (W). The fixture (12) is selectively separable via frangible connection elements (14, 24) from the anchoring mechanism (10) for allowing the fixture (12) to be used alone with an appropriate fastener (S) suitable for installing the fixture (12) to a rigid structure (M), such as wooden components. The anchoring mechanism (10) can take different forms as long as it is can be mounted to a friable wall (W). Typically, a space (26) is defined between the fixture (12) and a proximal end (34) of the anchoring mechanism (10) with this space (26) being bridged by the frangible connection elements (14, 24).

Abstract: The invention provides a “change of direction” device for use by a law enforcement technician. The device can be readily and easily attached to a building element and will allow the technician to pass a rope, wire or cable therethrough so that the rope, wire or cable can be pulled by the technician after one end has been attached to a hazardous item of concern. The change of direction device (CODD) would be positioned within the building at strategic locations where it is clear that the item of concern will have to change directions as it is being pulled from the location at which it was found. The invention provides several embodiments of the CODD for attachment to a wall, to a door hinge, or under the bottom edge of a door. Each CODD is simple in construction and is of such a nature that it can be positioned at the desired location without any preparation having to be done. In the case of the door and hinge CODD's they can be removed at a later point in time for re-use if necessary.

  • Patent number: 7065855
Abstract: The invention provides an installation tool for use with a battery operated drill or a corded electric drill for repetitive installation of caulk-in anchors. The installation tool utilizes the mechanical advantage of a threaded shaft to improve consistency of the holding reliability of the caulk-in anchor and controls the anchor setting process to insure proper installation while reducing installation time. The installation tool does not rely on bottom setting or a hammer strike to set the anchor, but can be set at a depth independent of hole depth. In one embodiment, the tool can be used with a through hole in the substrate and uses a combination of a threaded shaft and a controlled sensing spring to insure a more uniform installation of the anchor within the substrate across the entire length of the sleeve portion of the anchor, along with a visual check of proper setting of the anchor.

Abstract: An expansion bolt includes a sleeve in which a central bore is defined, comprising a rear inner-threaded section and a front tapering section. Radial slits are defined in a front end portion of the sleeve and partially in communication with the tapering bore to form a plurality of deformable pawls. At least one spherical member is received in the tapering bore and has a diameter greater than a smallest diameter of the tapering bore whereby the spherical member is effectively retained in the tapering bore. A driving member having external threading is threadingly received in the threaded bore for axially engaging the spherical member. By screwing the driving member, the spherical member is forced toward the front end of the sleeve and due to the tapering configuration of the tapering bore, the movement of the spherical member toward the front end of the sleeve forces the pawls to deform outward in a radial direction thereby securing the expansion bolt in a hole defined in for example a wall.

Fan nut anchor holes in facing material are made with ease to tolerances required. • Patent number: 5259689
Abstract: The invention relates to component connecting fastener especially flange connecting fasteners for the propeller shaft in a motor vehicle. The two flanges 4, 5 contain bores 8, 9 which align with each other. Axially slotted tensioning sleeve 10 is introduced into each bore 8, 9. The tensioning sleeve 10 is axially elongated and radially expanded by tensioning pin 22 driven into bore 12. After completion of the assembly operation, contact face 17 provided at collar 16 is supported on contact face 18 of flange 4, with supporting face 20 being supported on abutment face 21 of further flange 5. In this way it is possible to automate the assembly procedure while requiring less space and achieving a higher compression between flanges 4, 5.

  • Patent number: 5222852
Abstract: A fastening system is provided which includes an elongate grommet affixable into a correspondingly shaped aperture in a first object to be retained therein, and a clip passed through an aperture in a second object to be fastened to the first object. The two objects, one with the grommet affixed therein and the other with the clip projecting therethrough are brought together and, in a first orientation of the clip with respect to the grommet the clip is forcibly pressed into the grommet, whereupon a pair of claws formed onto the shank of the clip engage in an interference fit with recesses formed for such engagement into opposite walls of the grommet. The clip has a maximum transverse dimension smaller than an inside dimension of the elongate grommet, so that a predetermined amount of relative motion between the fastened objects is permitted by sliding motion of the clip while in interference engagement with the grommet.

Abstract: A pin and grommet assembly includes a push-pin and a grommet of unique construction which is capable of absorbing variations in the relative positions of a supporting panel and a mating panel to be attached caused by thermal expansion and contraction. A pair of diametrically opposed semicylindrical-shaped portions are disposed on the push-pin and cylindrical-shaped mating grooves are formed in the interior of the grommet for retaining freely floating the semicylindrical-shaped portions in the grommet so as to permit lateral sliding engagement between the opposed outer wall surfaces on the shorter sides of the main body portion of the grommet.

  • Patent number: 5137395
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a sleeve insertable into a borehole, the borehole having a first diameter. A roof pin is inserted into the sleeve, the roof pin having a second outer diameter which is less than the first diameter. The outer surface has a peripheral dimension prior to insertion of the sleeve into the borehole. The inner or the outer surface contains at least one longitudinally extending yieldable channel portion which is of a lesser sleeve thickness than the remainder of the sleeve, permitting circumferential expansion of the sleeve. Expansion of the sleeve establishes a restraint between the roof pin and the borehole. When the sleeve is expanded within the borehole, continuous peripheral contact is made between the outer surface and the borehole.

Abstract: A fastening element is set in a receiving material, such as concrete, stone and the like, by driving it through the base of a blind borehole previously formed in the receiving material. When the fastening element is driven initially, it moves through a sleeve and expands and secures the sleeve in the blind borehole. Accordingly, the fastening element is fixed in the receiving material and is also secured by the sleeve in the range of the borehole in the receiving material.
