  • Patent number: 5213879
Abstract: A plurality of viscoelastic layers in the form of rubber films are sandwiched between two constraint plates in the form of iron plates via polyamide adhesive films to form an alternatingly laminated structure. Materials of the respective elements are selected so that their degrees of elasticity satisfy the relationship: constraint plate>adhesive layer>viscoelastic layer. The thickness of each rubber film is limited below a predetermined value to maintain its thermal and pressure resistance, and the rubber films are laminated up to a total thickness required for obtain a desired vibration damping property. The vibration damper, thus obtained, is excellent in vibration property, thermal and pressure resistance, and resistance against oils and solvents, and effective even under a severe environment.

  • Patent number: 5168010
Abstract: Articles of protective wear are normally designed to protect a wearer against one or one group of hazardous materials such as chemical warfare agents. Such chemical warfare protective wear is normally made out of a butyl rubber as butyl rubber provides favorable impermeation protection against a wide variety of both chemical and biological warfare agents while having excellent physical properties. However, the protection provided by butyl rubber based protective wear is seriously reduced when exposed to hydrocarbons as the butyl rubber based protective wears' impermeation integrity is severely impaired. This problem is solved by using an article of protective wear which has a multilayer/multipolymer configuration so that enhanced protection against more than one type of material, such as hydrocarbons and chemical warfare agents, is provided.

Abstract: A structural element made up of a suitable substrate having at least one surface to which is bonded, by means of a pressure sensitive adhesive, a decorative veneer of a fiber backed reconstituted wood. The physical properties of the structural element are dictated by the substrate. The fiber backed reconstituted wood veneer contributes primarily decorative properties. The substrate can have any desired configuration but is particularly adapted for use in the formation of slats or louvers for horizontal or vertical venetian type blinds. The substrates are preferably appropriately contoured semi-rigid or rigid aluminum strips. Expanded plastic foams, plastics, softwood or hardwood or other solid substrates may also be used. Suitable fiber backed reconstituted wood veneers are any fiber backed veneers made by a process which utilizes wood, but which does not have the cellular structure of wood.
