Abstract: A fire display assembly has a burner tray optionally located within a hollow space in the interior of a non-flammable structure. A porous element on or in the non-flammable structure has extensions from a lower surface thereof extending into fuel in the burner tray. The assembly can include a fuel tray connected to the burner tray by conduits which provide flow channels for liquid fuel between the trays. When a container of liquid fuel is placed in the fuel tray the fuel is dispensed and flows into the burner tray. Fuel in the tray is transmitted to the outer surface of the porous element. Flammable vapors from the liquid fuel at the outer surface are then ignited. The arrangement provides a continuous feed of fuel to the surface of the non-flammable structure and allows safe replenishment of the fuel in the burner while the flame is present.

  • Patent number: 6390807
Abstract: The present invention relates to a structure in which an unburnt gas can be prevented from being diffused into a room while suppressing the generation of the unburnt gas during the extinction operation of a pot type oil burner. During the extinction operation, first of all, the supply of a fuel from fuel feeding means (35) to a pot (15) is stopped and conduction to an electric heater (31) is started. The rotation of each of a combustion fan (23) and a convection fan (11) is carried out continuously. While a second timer (67) counts a second time period, the convection fan (11) is rotated at a high speed. After the second time period is ended, the rotation of the convection fan (11) is switched from high speed rotation into low speed rotation. The low speed rotation is carried out continuously for a third time period counted by a third timer. After the third time period is ended, the rotation of the convection fan (11) is returned from the low speed rotation to the high speed rotation.

  • Patent number: 5964585
Abstract: An oil burner capable of ensuring normal combustion of quality-deteriorated kerosine. A burner body including a vaporization section is fed with fuel and air from a fuel pump and an air fan, respectively. A combustion control unit controls the fuel pump and air fan to control a combustion quantity in the burner body. The combustion control unit increases the combustion quantity to a combustion level sufficient to permit tar collected in the vaporization section to be burned at a predetermined time interval. Also, the combustion control unit keeps the combustion quantity increased to the combustion level for a predetermined period of time which permits tar collected in the burner body prior to an increase in combustion quantity to the combustion level to be substantially exhausted. This permits the combustion quantity to be intermittently increased, to thereby ensure substantial exhaustion of tar collected in the burner body.

The foaming air is passed through the porous element at an apparent velocity of 0.01-1 m/s. The porous element is a sintered metal body having a density of 4-6 g/cm.sup.3 and a void ratio of 35-45% or a ceramic body having a density of 2.0-5.0 g/cm.sup.3 and an apparent porosity of 15-45%. The method and apparatus enable ignition, prolonged continuous combustion and extinguishment to be conducted stably and with exceedingly low generation of CO, NO.sub.x and soot, and, as such are applicable to oil space heaters and industrial boilers.

  • Patent number: 5033956
Abstract: Flow of liquid fuel to a vaporization tube of a heating device is controlled by a vertically adjustable float valve, with the vertical height of a surface level of the fuel in a float valve chamber being set to correspond to a desired operating level of the liquid fuel in the vaporization tube. Liquid fuel is permitted to free-flow from the float valve chamber to the lower end of the vertical vaporization tube without metering, the rate of flow and the level of the fuel in the vaporization tube being determined solely by the hydraulic head created by the surface level of the fuel in the float valve chamber. Raising of the float valve chamber produces a corresponding raising of the level of the fuel in the vaporization tube to increase the tube inner surface area which is contacted or wetted by the fuel in the tube, thus causing an increase in the rate of vaporization and a corresponding increase in heat output of the heating device.
