Abstract: An improved method and mechanism for forming a chain of laterally interconnected plastic bags which have confronting releasably interlocking rib and groove profile elements on the inner confronting wall surfaces or at the edge of said surface including advancing a tube or a folded film of plastic bag material having interlocked rib and groove profile elements, forming spaced spot seals at the profile element and alternately at another location to permanently join the layers of material and permanently join the rib and groove elements over the area of the spot, forming lateral seals extending the width of the material at the location of the spot seals to provide side seams for the adjacent bags, and cutting through the material along the center of the seam to partially separate the bags with the cuts extending a predetermined distance partially into the spot seals to control their remaining strength and control the separation force needed to separate adjacent bags.
Abstract: A heat sealing and cut-off device for making packages with shrink film wrapping. The device includes a rotating anvil and a counter-rotating knife and clamping bars. The rotations are synchronous and independently mounted clamping bars hold the film for heat sealing and severing without scuffing.
Abstract: A method of forming a container strip of flexible sheet material having anti-corrosion inserts is disclosed. The method includes the steps of bringing two webs of flexible material into superimposed relationship, applying an adhesive to one of the webs, and feeding inserts, one by one, between the two webs. Thereafter, the webs are passed between rolls which compress the webs and the inserts to adhere the inserts to the web having adhesive. Edge seals, end seals, and perforations then are formed to produce a strip of flexible containers suitable for reception of corrosion prone articles. In an alternative embodiment, an adhesive is applied to both webs at spaced locations and an insert then is compressed between the webs at a location toward one end of the container. This technique produces a container having a header portion to provide support for display purposes.
Abstract: A reclosable film plastic hang-up and/or identification pocket merchandise contents display bag has front and rear walls joined at sides and bottom and provides an openable top with complementary separable fastener profiles on the walls across the openable top with a fastener-opening front pull flange that is substantially shorter than its rear fastener-opening pull flange. A panel is joined to the front of the rear pull flange to provide therewith a plural thickness header having, if required, matching hang-up holes through the panel and rear pull flange. A header reinforcing bead structure secures the upper edges of the panel and the rear pull flange together. The panel and rear pull flange define therebetween a downwardly opening pocket adapted to house identification means. A method of making the bag from plastic extrusion is disclosed.
Abstract: A plurality of multi-walled bags of flexible plastic material is formed by taking a longitudinally folded flat web of a first flexible plastic film; at least partially separating the superposed plies of said first flexible plastic film at the edge opposite the fold line and moving the film past a corona discharge electrode between the separated plies of the film to pre-treat at least a part of the inwardly facing surface of each of said two plies; taking a longitudinally folded flat web of a second flexible plastic film; corona discharge-treating the outwardly facing surfaces of the two plies of said second flexible plastic film; passing the pre-treated web of said second flexible plastic film over a diverter guide into the space between the two at least partially separated plies of said first flexible plastic film to bring the fold lines of the first and second flexible plastic film webs substantially into register with the two webs moving synchronously in a single direction; and sealing the composite of the
