Abstract: A retractable bed comprising a fixed structure comprising a pair of side walls and a bed-receiving space between the side walls, a displaceable bedbase removably storable in the bed-receiving space, wherein at least one clearance is maintained between the displaceable bedbase and one of the side walls, and at least one flap hingedly mounted to the fixed structure by at least one spring-loaded hinge, wherein in a closed position the displaceable bedbase is stored in the bed-receiving space and the at least one flap is fully closed and blocking access to the at least one clearance, and wherein in an open position the displaceable bedbase is removed from the bed-receiving space and the at least one flap is fully open and allowing access to the clearance, the at least one hinge preventing the at least one flap from closing until the displaceable bedbase is fully returned to the bed-receiving space.

A first end of a first lever arm 918 is coupled to the fixed plate 902. A first end of a second lever arm 920 is coupled to the first lever arm at a point between the first end and the second end of the first lever arm 918. The second end of the second lever arm 920 is coupled to the rotating plate 904 at a position that is offset a horizontal distance from the pivot point 906. A first end of a gas spring 908 is coupled to the fixed plate 902 and the second end of the gas spring 908 is coupled to the second end of the first lever arm 918.

Abstract: A modular wall includes a plurality of inter-connectable and interchangeable wall modules. At least one of the wall modules includes a recessed, extendable piece of furniture, such as a bed, desk, table, work surface or chair. When in a closed configuration, the furniture folds into or otherwise resides within a recessed pocket in the modular wall. When in the closed configuration, the outer surface of the furniture forms an exterior surface of the wall module; thereby, concealing the furniture seamlessly into the modular wall. The exterior surface can comprise one or more exterior interchangeable tiles.

Abstract: “The Fold Up Dormitory” is intended for use in situations where living and working quarters for a small or large number of people are required on short notice or irregular intervals. The apparatus is made of wood, steel and premanufactured hardware, and comprises components for sleeping, working and storage of small items. It is mobile, simple to operate and offers many options to those who use it. The apparatus comprises: a central core; a pair of folding frames, each pivotally connected to the central core on opposite sides thereof, for rotation about vertical frame-to-core axes of connection; a bed platform pivotally connected to a first side of the central core, for rotation about a horizontal bed-to-core axis of connection; a desk surface pivotally connected to a second side of the central core, for rotation about a horizontal desk-to-core axis of connection; and storage shelving within the central core.

Abstract: A foldable bed includes an upstanding cabinet; a bed frame assembly; and a pair of shifting mechanisms for pivotally supporting the bed frame assembly to the cabinet so the bed frame assembly can be shifted between a raised, closed position and a lowered, open position. Each of the shifting mechanisms includes a hinge plate pivotally connected to the cabinet and integrally formed with a portion of the bed frame assembly and a piston coupled between the hinge plate and the cabinet for assisting with shifting of the bed frame assembly between the raised and lowered positions. The bed frame assembly broadly comprises a tray; a metal frame positioned on top of and attached to the tray; and a plurality of metal legs positioned below and attached to the tray and the metal frame.

Abstract: A convertible furniture unit constituted by a sofa having an exposed wall and that can be converted into a folding double bed or into two mutually separate single beds. The conversion from double bed to two single beds occurs in the day version, with the beds arranged vertically, by virtue of the sliding movement on a rail (6) of the two portions (2, 3). The spring-based balancing system, the levers (18) and the fulcrums (22) of rotation are inside the supporting structure. The shoulders (8, 9) of the piece of furniture that embed the sprung bases in the day position are fixed to the sprung bases themselves and, by rotation, become the side boards of the bed in the night position; in this manner, the unit does not have, in the night version, the appearance of exposed wall-mounted furniture. The unit also allows, in the day version, to join without gaps the two seats into a sofa and, in the night version, to join the two single beds to form a double sprung base.

Abstract: A pivoting leg assembly for an article of folding furniture having a frame and which can be rotated between a storage position and a use position includes: a leg support bar adapted for slidable movement with respect to the frame, such that the leg support bar can move forward and rearward in a plane substantially parallel to the frame; and a leg pivotally connected to the leg support bar, such that it can be pivoted from a first position to a second position in which it extends downward and away from the frame, thus providing support to the frame in the use position.

Abstract: A wall bed assembly including a wall cabinet and a bed frame. The bed frame is pivoted from a vertical, stored position within the wall cabinet to a horizontal position for use as a bed. The bed frame is connected to the wall cabinet with a pivot bracket secured to the bed frame which pivotally attaches to the lower end of a counterbalancing piston. The upper end of the counterbalancing piston is pivotally secured to a plate that attaches to the wall cabinet side panel. Additionally, the bed frame includes a pair of non-linear legs pivotally attached for supporting the frame in the horizontal position. The wall bed assembly also includes retractable magnets for securing the bed frame in the vertical position. A safety release position is also provided. A bed frame assembly for a customizable wall cabinet is also provided.

Abstract: A structure for a piece of furniture, such as a retractable bed, includes a fixed part and a pivoting part, the latter having an essentially flat frame and being hinged to the fixed part between an essentially vertical raised position and an essentially horizontal lowered position. The pivoting part includes at least one guide which extends approximately at right angles to the frame and at least one leg mounted on this guide in such a way as to slide, with an actuating device connecting the leg to the fixed part to move the leg between an extended position when the pivoting part is in the lowered position in such a way that its free end is standing on the floor and a withdrawn position when the bed is in its raised position.

Abstract: A frame member supports a seat and a back and is movable between a horizontal position for supporting a user thereon and a vertical position for stowing the frame against the wall. Linkage secures the frame member to a wall mounting apparatus. The linkage includes oppositely disposed pairs of links that pivot the frame member relative to the wall to define a first distance between the wall and the frame member when the frame is in the vertical position and a second lesser distance between the wall and the frame member when the frame is in the horizontal position thus requiring less space between the frame and the wall. The frame assembly also has a leg pivotally connected to the frame member by linkage such that the leg moves beneath the frame between an upstanding supporting position and a collapsed storage position coincident with movement of the frame.

Abstract: A combined wall treatment and bed, that is, a unit which resembles a decorative wall treatment, such as a painting, when in the upright and stowed position, but which can be lowered to provide a comfortable bed. When the unit is in the upright and stowed position its appearance is that of a thin (4½?) wall treatment, the thickness of a large painting, and thus consumes practically no living space. A fixed component can be attached to any standard wall construction without modification; it supports the lower edge of a movable portion and defines an axis about which the movable portion pivots to provide a functional and comfortable bed.

Abstract: Convertible furniture unit has a base and a bed platform connected to the base for displacement about a first axis from a stowed position to a use position. The platform is adapted to support a mattress. A table panel is pivotally mounted to the platform for displacement about a second axis between a support and a use position. An extension is pivotally connected to the table panel for rotation of the extension between an upper position for propping the panel in its working position, and a lower position. The extension pivots on a spreader fixed to the base. The spreader also contains a spring and optional linear actuator for controlling displacement of the platform.

Abstract: Lift bed with a bed frame carried on at least two carriages, whereby each carriage is supported movably on a guide rail arranged vertically for moving the bed frame in the vertical direction and whereby each carriage consists of two parts which are supported in a mutually tiltable manner via a horizontal axle running parallel to the bed-frame width; the two carriage parts of each carriage are joined by an adjustment device clamping them together so that the bed frame mounted on the first carriage part is adjustable in the horizontal position; the adjustment device exhibits an overload device which gives way on reaching a predefined limit load and releases the connection and whereby also an end-stop is provided which holds the bed frame in a slightly angled position after release of the connection.

A counterweight container has a generally flat side intersected along two edges by a generally arcuate side. The container has a sealable opening adjacent one intersecting edge of the intersecting arcuate and flat sides. The sealable opening is positioned above the fluid material in the container in both the horizontal and upright positions to thereby prevent leakage from the sealable opening and to allow filling the container from either position.

Abstract: A convertible furniture unit has a base and a bed platform pivotally connected to the base for angular displacement about a first axis from an upright stowed position with respect to the base, to a substantially horizontal use position. The platform has an upper surface in the use position that is adapted to support a mattress, and an opposite surface. A table panel has a first end that is pivotally mounted to the opposite surface of the platform for relative displacement between the platform and the panel about a second axis which is spaced from the first axis so that the panel is in a support position when the platform is in the use position, and the panel is in a working position when the platform is in the stowed position. An extension or foot is pivotally connected to the table panel at a location that is spaced from the first end of the panel, for rotation of the extension or foot between an upper position for propping the panel in its working position, and a lower position.

Abstract: The folding vehicle bed assembly includes a housing member that can be connected to a vertical support wall and a bed frame that can be stored within the housing member or extended for use. A movable support lever provides a first pivotal connection to the bed frame to enable the bed frame to rotate when moved from an operative horizontal position to a vertical storage position. A second pivotal connection is attached to the end of the bed frame adjacent to the vertical support wall and above the height of a mattress. A motor assembly is connected to the second pivotal connection to drive it parallel to the vertical support wall and to rotate the end of the bed frame about the second pivotal connection.

Abstract: In a first embodiment, a positioning shaft is fixedly connected to a frame of a folding bed. A switch is operable to cause a motor to rotate the positioning shaft in a manner that alternatively causes the frame to rotate to either a raised storage position or a lowered functional position. In a second embodiment, a power assembly and the frame have axes of rotation that are displaced from each other. A motor of the power assembly is coupled to an end of a threaded shaft that engages threads of an internally threaded sheath that is connected to the frame at a datum location. The frame is raised in response to a distance between axis of rotation of the power assembly and the datum location being increased. The frame is lowered in response to the distance being decreased. The distance is changed in response to a rotation of the threaded shaft.

Abstract: A fitting arrangement for a folding bed, preferably a wall folding bed, includes a first fitting part on the corpus or body of the bed; a second fitting part on the folding bed, supported pivotally on the first fitting part; and a first holder on the corpus of the bed and a second holder on the folding bed to hold devices, especially spring devices, which exert force on the folding bed to push it into its up position. The first holder is provided on the first fitting part and the second holder is provided on the second fitting part.

Abstract: A folding furniture apparatus for selectively and alternatively moving a pivotally connected furniture component between a substantially horizontal usable position and a substantially vertical storage position includes a counterbalancing piston assembly and associated mounting hardware that can provide one of a selected value of torques, counterbalancing the weight of furniture component. At least one counterbalancing piston extends between an upper mounting bracket secured to a support assembly and a lower bracket secured to the furniture component, each of these brackets having a plurality of corresponding mounting points. A counterbalancing piston is pivotally secured to and extends from a selected mounting point on the lower bracket to an associated mounting point on the upper bracket.

Abstract: A wall-mounted infant changing apparatus configured to provide a relatively uniform surface in an open position for cleaning of the apparatus. The infant changing apparatus includes a support frame, a bed, a hinge means and a drive cylinder. The bed is pivotably attached to the support frame by the hinge means. The drive cylinder is also attached to the support frame and the bed to provide controlled movement of the bed from a closed position to the open position. A retaining end of the support frame and a pivot end of the bed are configured for mating interaction such that in the open position, the hinge means and the drive cylinder are shielded from waste material.

The platform forms a wall portion in its closed position, and a bed or couch in its open position. A second smaller platform or shelf/leg is pivotally mounted with a second recess or well set into the larger platform. The shelf/leg forms a wall portion in its open position, and a shelf or support leg in its open position, depending on the position of the larger platform. The larger platform itself maybe mounted adjacent to and in front of a pivotally mounted bedframe member, thereby allowing a single wall unit to be configured to form either a wall, a wall having an added shelf, a couch or a double bed.The invention further comprises a height adjustable table allowing both a lower height coffee table and a higher height card table. At its lower height the table can also provide support to the bedframe in its open position.

The fitting includes bearings for the piece of furniture, for at least one swivel leg linkage of the piece of furniture and/or for devices for damping or load reduction during swivel movements of the piece of furniture. The fitting has a fastening member to be connected to a wall and a support member which can be non-rotatably connected to the fastening member, wherein the fastening member is constructed so as to position the support member and wherein the bearings are provided on the support member.

Abstract: A new and useful cabinet wall bed which contains a cabinet, a bed frame which is secured to the cabinet by a pivot bracket, a counterbalance piston and a unique leg-locking and supporting system. The bed frame is locked in its closed position by the leg-locking and supporting system wherein the leg-locking and supporting system is comprised of a combined handle and leg, a leg hinge, a locking bar, a compression spring support and an angle bar to engage the locking bar.

Abstract: Reclining radiographic wall table assembly including a wall mounted rack, a wheeled bed table having floor engaging wheels mounted at one end of the table and a rack engaging member at the other for engaging the wall mounted rack, and a control mechanism providing control of the positioning of the table so that it is selectively oriented either horizontally, vertically, or in a semi-reclining position intermediate the first two positions. The table is also provided with an ankle holding attachment mounted on the surface of the table near the rack engaging member for securing a patient onto the table when the table is in an inclined or vertical position, the patient then being inverted while being X-rayed for determining an amount of the scoliotic bend capable of being attributed to the gravitational pull upon the patient were the patient standing in an essentially upright position.

Thus, preparation for bed making or placing the frame back in the wall can be performed with relative ease. Abstract: A drive coupling for a power operated folding support structure which is pivoted between a horizontal use position and a vertical storage position by an electric drive mechanism. A drive coupling operatively couples the arm of the electric drive motor to the pivoting support frame. The drive coupling includes a friction plate which is held between a pair of friction members secured by clamping members. The frictional drive coupling transmits force from the drive motor to pivot the frame, but allows slippage in the event that an obstacle or excessive force is encountered while pivoting the frame.

Abstract: A bed which is movable between a horizontal open position and a vertical closed position wherein a counterbalancing mechanism comprising two levers and gas springs are placed at the foot of the bed in order to provide a lifting moment for help in closing the bed and a gravitational restraint when opening the bed.

Abstract: A spring-balanced, wall-type bed-frame member, which is adapted to support a portion of a mattress assembly, is pivotable between a vertical position adjacent a wall and a horizontal position upon a floor for use. A plurality of the frame members are needed to support the mattress assembly for a bed. The bed contains no permanent cross members linking the respective bed-frame members, so that the location of the frame members can be laterally changed to accommodate mattress assemblies of differing widths.

Abstract: For adjusting the tilt height of one end of a bed, a bed frame, a tiltable frame section attached to the frame, a longitudinally oriented bar secured to the section, a bar receiving means having an opening through which the bar passes supported on the frame, the receiving means opening being orientable from a position at which it misaligns with the bar and blocks sliding of the bar therethrough to a position at which it aligns with the bar and permits the bar to slide through, thereby permitting the frame section to gradually recover from tilted orientation.
