The sterically hindered ester, present in the amount of from 0.5 up to 15 parts by weight based on the total weight of the fluid composition, provides the fluid compositions with excellent fire resistance, without adversely affecting other physical properties of the fluid compositions such as hydrolytic stability. More specifically, the sterically hindered ester has a higher fire point (Fp) than the poly(alkylene glycol), which typically sufficiently lowers the S.F.P. of the fluid composition to allow the fluid composition to rate as a Factory Mutual Approved Fluid.

Abstract: A lubricant for wire, which is insulated by means of a lacquer coating, and which is used for forming the stator windings of an electrical refrigerating compressor, consists of one or more compounds of the formula CH3—Xn—R, wherein X is a linear or branched hydrocarbon group with n carbon atoms, wherein n is up to 22, and R may be hydrogen or a plurality of different radicals, either in a pure form or dissolved in a suitable solvent. The lubricant is applied to the wire to reduce its coefficient of friction, and it is remarkable for its compatibility with the environmentally unharmful refrigerants, such as R134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane), which are used today in refrigerating compressors without capillary tube obstructions.

Abstract: Non-polymeric fatty acid drag reducing agents are described herein. These additives are useful to reduce drag in hydrocarbon fluids and multiphase fluids of hydrocarbon(s) and water. No injection probes or other special equipment is expected to be required to introduce the drag reducing agent into the liquid stream, nor is grinding (cryogenic or otherwise) of the additive necessary to form a suitable drag reducing agent. The drag reducing additives of the invention are not subject to shear degradation and do not cause undesirable changes in the emulsion or fluid quality of the fluid being treated, or undesirable foaming. The drag reducing additives include fatty acids, alkoxylated derivatives of fatty acids, organic and inorganic salts of fatty acids and alkoxylated derivatives thereof, and esters of fatty acids and alkoxylated derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: Secondary alcohol esters of hydroxyacids, e.g., ricinoleate esters of secondary alcohols, are prepared by reacting an ester of a hydroxyacid with a secondary alcohol, in the presence of an organometallic transesterification catalyst. Under these reaction conditions, a high proportion of the starting ester of a hydroxyacid is converted into a secondary alcohol ester of the hydroxyacid, while minimizing the formation of by-products including estolide. The product esters and composition containing same may be used as a lubricity agent or as a friction modifier in a lubricant composition.
