Patent number: 6263629Abstract: A reinforcing grid which advantageously includes fibers of both a first type and a second type is provided. The first type of fibers have a strength sufficient to reinforce the hardenable structural material, such as concrete, after hardening. The first type of fibers also have a higher resistance to degradation in the hardenable material than the second type of fibers. As such, the first type of fibers will continue to reinforce the hardened material in the event the fibers of the second type become corroded in the hardened material. Consequently, a less expensive type of fiber can be used as the second type of fiber and can corrode in the hardenable material without concern for the strength of the hardened structural product. According to one embodiment, the first type of fibers comprises carbon fibers and the second type of fibers comprises glass fibers.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Clark Schwebel Tech-Fab CompanyInventor: Gordon L. Vinyl cross-piece covers, or cross-piece members, are provided, and vinyl web members generally extend between the cross-piece covers to provide a web for the fence. A typical fence is held together with four fasteners, located in the corners thereof, which fasteners secure the upright members, the cross-piece members and the vinyl cross-piece covers, thereby forming a solitary unit.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1997Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Inventor: Michael F. Patent number: 5864990Abstract: An improved drain board for use on a gutter particularly has a cover board pivotally secured to a mounting bracket. The cover board has an outwardly extended pivot pole at one corner thereof and an inwardly extended receiving tube at the opposite corner for accommodation of a bias spring and a movable pivot rod. At the corresponding corners of the mounting bracket is disposed an outwardly extended engaging tube respectively so as to permit the fixed pivot pole and the movable pivot rod of the cover borad to be pivotally mounted onto the mounting bracket and the cover board is well protected from being stolen with ease by burglars.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Inventor: Yu-Pin Tu

Patent number: 5862643Abstract: A raised flooring system and methods of forming components of such a system are disclosed. The present flooring system utilizes thin sheet metal, typically galvanized steel, to form a first strip having a plurality of pedestals formed in a spaced apart relation on the strip and connected via wings extending from the first strip to wings extending from a second strip, thereby forming an overall rectilinear, grid-like pattern of pedestals. The pedestals are used to maintain floor panels above a network of channels in which conduit, cables, hoses, pipe and other materials can be routed. The pedestals are punched and formed from strips of sheet metal and have an overall shape generally that of a tower supported by two legs that may have rounded edges for increased load-bearing capacity. The wings that are designed to interlock with corresponding wings from another strip may also be formed from the pedestal-bearing strips.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1997Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: Guilford (Delaware) Inc.Inventor: Jan J. Patent number: 5822947Abstract: A plank and flange plate structure for providing additional bearing for the precast concrete planks on an underlying steel beam, the additional bearing being located on each side of the existing steel beam so as also to provide a transfer of the dead and live loads to the existing steel beam. Several embodiments include a square structure, made up of a pair of flange plates which rest on the steel beam, and a pair of plank plates supporting the precast concrete plank(s), and several structures located between adjacent steel beams, with two or three plank plates. Plank and flange plates may be secured together by welding, nut and bolt fasteners, riveting, or the parts may be formed (e.g., cast, molded, etc.) as a unitary structure.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1995Date of Patent: October 20, 1998Inventor: Padraig Tarrant

Patent number: 5701714Abstract: A grille-type guard system, in particular a wrought iron grating assembly, includes a plurality of longitudinal bars in spaced-apart disposition, and a plurality of crossbars which are connected to the longitudinal bars at crossing points. The crossbars are formed at each crossing point with an arched section for receiving the longitudinal bars at least partially in a form-fitting manner, with the securement between the crossbars and the longitudinal bars being effected in each crossing point in non-detachable manner by a screw fastener that is received in aligned bores of the longitudinal bar and crossbar.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1996Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: bima Industrie-Service GmbHInventor: Alexander Dietrichs

Patent number: 5596859Abstract: A metal wall stud in the shape of an elongated open channel having pre-punched nail or screw holes and pre-punched passageways for electrical or plumbing facilities. Integral tabs extending beyond the ends of stud walls are foldable to provide connections to wooden plates or metal wall stud purlins in the construction framing. Split tabs integral with the bottom wall of the channel provide lateral stabilization, greater uplift loads, and the capability of being load bearing. A pair of studs have nesting capability to provide telescopic adjustability for walls in a vaulted ceiling room.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1994Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Inventors: Jim W. Patent number: 5555692Abstract: A latticework structure providing a composite curved appearance is formed from slat elements each having a shape defined by a waveform curve repeating about a longitudinal axis, the waveform defined by a wavelength and a magnitude, each of the first slat elements having a substantially constant and common width orthogonal to the defining curve. Such elements are arranged in two levels with axes of symmetry of the slat elements all parallel, and the width of slat elements in one level at maxima points positioned to overlap the width of minima points of the slat elements on the other level, and the elements are joined at the areas of overlap. In a preferred embodiment, the elements are wooden slats, and in other embodiments other materials are used, such as plastic and metal. Joining methods are selected appropriate to the materials used.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1995Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Inventor: Henry S. Griffith
