Abstract: Disclosed is a method of removing a residual catalyst metal compound from a polymer solution. The method comprises the steps of: a) mixing a solution in which at least one organic nitrogen compound is dissolved in a polar solvent and the polymer solution to precipitate a chelate compound of the organic nitrogen compounds and the residual catalyst metal compound, b) adding the polar solvent to the solution mixture to dissolve a chelate compound and to precipitate a polymer, and c) filtering the precipitated polymer. After the polymer polymerization is completed, an organic nitrogen compound solution is added to perform a chelate reaction with the residual catalyst metal compound in a solution phase, and the polar solvent is added to precipitate the polymer so that only polymer precipitates are filtered while an additional filtration process in respect to the chelate compound is not performed to easily remove the residual catalyst metal compound.

Abstract: A microfluidic system for performing interfacial reactions can comprise at least one pump in fluid communication with a tube. A first fluid is injected into the tube so that its flow is laminar and continuous. A second fluid is injected in discrete amounts into the tube into the stream or flow of the first fluid. In other embodiments, discrete amounts of the second fluid are introduced into the channel first, then the first fluid is injected so that it creates a region of substantially laminar fluid flow around the discrete amounts of the second fluid. After the two fluids are in contact, a reaction occurs. The system can be configured so that the second fluid solidifies to form a capsule around the first fluid or vice versa. Other interfacial reactions also can be accomplished using the disclosed microfluidic systems and methods.

  • Patent number: 7446155
Abstract: Hyperbranched polymers having a plurality of at least two different types of functional groups are described. Specific embodiments include hyperbranched polymers having functional groups of a first type that are substantially uniformly distributed throughout the hyperbranched polymer molecule and a second type of functional group that is substantially uniformly distributed at the terminals of the hyperbranched polymer molecule. The hyperbranched polymers having different types of functional groups are synthesized by reacting one or more monomers having functional groups that are capable of reacting during a set of polymerization conditions to form a hyperbranched polymer, wherein at least one of the monomers contains latent functional groups that are not reactive during polymerization.

Abstract: A gear composed of a polymer blend or a copolymer of PA66 and PA6 which contains a part having a PA66 molecular structure and a part having a PA6 molecular structure in a weight ratio of PA66/PA6=99.9/0.1 to 95.0/5.0 is excellent in durability as well as heat resistance and dimensional stability. A speed reduction gear using the gear has a reduced size, and can be used under a higher torque without a torque increase due to dimensional change of the gear. An electric power steering apparatus using the speed reduction gear has a reduced size, and can be used for a larger automobile.

  • Patent number: 7408020
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an LC aligning agent using diamine having dendron side chains. In detail, the present invention relates to a composition for an LC alignment film which employs diamine having dendron side chains to produce polyamic acid, followed by imidization. When the LC alignment film is applied to a liquid crystal display device, high heat resistance, high penetration in a visible ray range, excellent alignment, and a high voltage holding ratio are assured. Even though it contains a small amount of functional diamine, a high pretilt angle can be assured. Thus, the pretilt angle is easily controlled and a vertical aligning force is improved.
