  • Patent number: 4838058
Abstract: Engaging pieces of plates pivotally mounted in a lock box are adapted to engage holes or cutouts formed in a slide member slidable between its locked and unlocked positions. When a right card formed with holes and cutouts in right positions is inserted into a card slot, the engaging pieces in engagement with the holes or cutouts are all pushed down by the card, pivot or pins and are disengaged out of the holes, while the engaging pieces out of engagement are not pushed by the card owing to the cutouts or holes in the card. Thus the slide member freed from the restraint by the engaging pieces can be slid to its unlocked position to open the lock. When a wrong card is inserted, the engaging pieces out of engagement with the slide member will be pushed by the card and engage the slide member, restraining it from moving. Thus the lock cannot be opened.

  • Patent number: 4739639
Abstract: An auto-directing lever lock includes a case housing a cylinder (4) with a plug (3) mounted for movement therein. The plug includes a keyway (14) for accepting a key bit (7). A keyway opening (15) on the surface of the plug provides access for lever tumblers (6) to engage lever steps on the key bit. The key bit is detachable from a bow and shank section (8), and inserted in to the keyway through a key hole (39) in the case. The tumblers ride on a surface of the plug and are held away from the lever steps of the key bit during rotation of the plug, until the tumblers disengage the plug surface due to the keyway opening therein. The tumblers, when disengaged from the plug surface, fall onto the lever steps of the key bit to align gatings (32) of the tumblers so a bolt stump (28) may pass therethrough to retract a bolt (5) of the lock.

  • Patent number: 4506530
Abstract: In a security door lock a pivoted detent deadlocks the bolt by engagement of a stump in pockets provided in the bolt. The detent is normally held in its locking position by a cam surface on the thrower and by a pack of detainers. Rotation of the correct key aligns notches in the detainers with a probe on the detent and also positions a second cam surface of the thrower adjacent to the detent, so the detent can pivot to its unlocking position under the action of a spring, and thereby free the bolt. After the bolt is shifted the final rotation of the key re-engages the cam surface against the detent to drive the detent positively back to its locking position. If required, the bolt can be double-thrown by a second ("master") key which lifts the detainers to higher positions so that second notches in the detainers now align with the detent probe. This higher lifting of the detainers also lifts a dogging slide so that the stump of the latter can pass over a projection on the bolt tail.

  • Patent number: 4332153
Abstract: The invention provides an improved lock configuration by which a dual key lock can operate efficiently and conveniently with a single stack of tumblers. That configuration permits more accurate positioning of the tumblers upon key operation, whereby a larger number of key combinations can generally be accommodated. Also, the individual tumblers of the invention are typically receivable in the lock in a plurality of alternative orientations in which their gates assume different functions. That difference of function may constitute a change of effective gate position with respect to the same key, or may shift cooperation with the two keys from one pair of gates to another. That aspect of the invention is useful in facilitating key changes, especially in locks designed for safe deposit and similar service.
