  • Patent number: 4981026
Abstract: A steering column shaft locking device is disclosed in which a lever is rotatably mounted in a key cylinder when a key is inserted into the key cylinder, producing reaction force on a front wall of a housing, thereby causing the key cylinder to move backward against resilient force of a spring in order to certainly operate a key detecting switch provided in an ignition switch device. A guard plate is provided between the key cylinder and the front end of the housing so as to rotate it together with the key cylinder and guard plate when the key is rotated. Forward movement of the key cylinder is controlled by a retainer placed at the proximity thereof and a detent placed therein. The spring urges the key cylinder and the retainer in the forward direction and the detent radially inwardly. The guard plate serves to prevent abrasion of the lever and unauthorized insertion of tools into the device.

  • Patent number: 4903512
Abstract: A lock of the disconnectable rotor type comprises a rotor rotatable in a stator sleeve rotatable in a fixed lock case. Locking means (e.g. pairs of pins or pallets) cooperate with rotor and stator sleeve to couple them together for simultaneous rotation in the absence of a correct key while freeing the rotor from the stator sleeve when the correct key is introduced. The stator sleeve is maintained in a normal or "rest" position by an effaceable indexing member. The indexing member cooperates with the lock case to maintain the stator sleeve in its said position. A lock bolt actuating lever is coupled to the rotor by coupling means such as to effect this coupling only after rotation of the rotor independently of the stator sleeve. The coupling means include a slide ring rotatable with the rotor, cooperating with the stator sleeve through camming means to slide the slide ring axially, and including at least one actuating finger.

  • Patent number: 4809525
Abstract: A plunger lock with a readily removable core is disclosed. The lock has a cylindrical housing and a core. The core is provided with a detent which is retractable when the proper key is inserted in the keyway of the core to permit rotation of the core within the housing. The rotation and longitudinal movement of the core within the housing is defined by the cooperation of a stop in a locking/unlocking groove formed on the core to permit the core to move longitudinally between locked and unlocked positions. The keyway opens to the surface of the core adjacent the locking/unlocking groove. A core insertion/removal groove is formed on the core adjacent the keyway on the opposite side from the locking/unlocking groove. A normal operating key which is inserted in the keyway permits retraction of the detent so that the core may be moved between the locked and unlocked positions, but prevents passage of the stop between the locking/unlocking groove and the core insertion/removal groove.

  • Patent number: 4669287
Abstract: A lock assembly has a lock barrel which slides in a housing so that a finger at the end of the barrel can release a latch. The lock barrel is prevented from sliding when the barrel is locked, by engagement of the finger with a blocking plate, but the barrel is freed when the key is inserted and turned. The finger is made so that it shortens if excessive axial force is applied while the barrel is locked. This shortening may be effected by including an easily rupturable connection between different sections of the finger. When the finger shortens, the connection ruptures and prevents the finger from getting near the latch to release it. Once the connection has ruptured, further movement of the barrel into the housing will bring the barrel into contact with the outer periphery of the blocking plate which is well supported.
