  • Patent number: 5431034
Abstract: A cylinder lock includes a lock shell which confines a cylindrical hole and a rotatable cylindrical key plug provided within the hole of the lock shell and formed with a longitudinally extending keyway. The key plug is further formed with a plurality of first bores which receive a lower tumbler pin of a respective first tumbler set, while the lock shell is further formed with a plurality of second bores which receive an upper tumbler pin of a respective first tumbler set. A plug retaining sleeve has a front portion which extends into the hole of the lock shell and which confines a hollow space for receiving a rear portion of the key plug. The rear portion of the key plug and the front portion of the plug retaining sleeve are respectively formed with third and fourth radially aligned bores which receive a lower tumbler pin of a second tumbler set.

  • Patent number: 5421179
Abstract: A cylinder lock can be manipulated by a control key (7) and a system key (8), each of which has a system code (7a , 8a) and a side code (7b , 8b). With the aid of the control key (7), the lock-cylinder (2) of the lock can be removed from the casing (3) for replacement with another cylinder. The cylinder plug (6) is surrounded by a lock-part (5) having a latching element (5a) which is moveable through an angle of about 20.degree. between a latching and a releasing position. When replacing the lock-cylinder, the cylinder is released through the action of the side code (7b) on the control key (7) and a side-bar (20) which is manipulated by side pins (19) mounted in the plug (6). To this end, grooves (26, 25) provided respectively in the lock-cylinder (2) and the lock-part (5) for accommodation of the side-bar (20) may be provided with peripheral extensions which enable the side-bar to move idly.

  • Patent number: 5317889
Abstract: A door lockset 20 includes a front loaded cylinder lock 75 which is assembled with an insert 64 within a knob 62. Cylinder lock 75 includes a locking bar 104 which is biased toward a central opening 83 formed through a body 76 of the lock. A plug 80 is located within opening 83 and is rotatable therein. A removal key 108 is formed with a slot 240 which is alignable with a plug slot 109 when the key is inserted into a key slot 113 of the plug. Plug 80 is thereafter rotated within opening 83 to align locking bar 104 with plug slot 109 and key slot 240 whereby the bar moves into the slots under the biasing action of a spring 106. Cylinder lock 75 can then be removed from the front of insert 64 and knob 62. A reverse process is followed to load cylinder lock 75 into opening 238 and to retain the lock with insert 64.

  • Patent number: 5209087
Abstract: A removable core cylinder lock having separate key-operated tumbler controlled fences is disclosed. The separately keyed fences permit differentiation between a locking/unlocking operational mode and a core insertion/removal mode to enhance security and applicability of the lock. The lock comprises a core received by a housing. The core has a longitudinal fence retractable by alignment of one group of tumblers and a transverse retainer retractable by alignment of a second group of tumblers wherein both fence and retainer engage the housing to lock the core therein. Insertion of a proper unlocking key permits retraction of the fence without retraction of the retainer so that the core can be rotated in the housing but not removed therefrom. Insertion of a proper removal key permits retraction of the fence and retainer for removal of the core from the housing. Abstract: An improved plunger lock mechanism in which a shell is supported within a lock casing for movement to and from a locked position, the shell carrying a plug lock which is rotatable relative to the shell upon insertion of an appropriate key. The plug lock carries a bolt which is movable outwardly to latching engagement with a latch shoulder provided in the casing. A cam surface is so disposed in the casing as to urge the bolt inwardly from its latching position to a retracted position upon rotation of the plug lock, thereby permitting release of the shell from its locked position.

  • Patent number: 4809525
Abstract: A plunger lock with a readily removable core is disclosed. The lock has a cylindrical housing and a core. The core is provided with a detent which is retractable when the proper key is inserted in the keyway of the core to permit rotation of the core within the housing. The rotation and longitudinal movement of the core within the housing is defined by the cooperation of a stop in a locking/unlocking groove formed on the core to permit the core to move longitudinally between locked and unlocked positions. The keyway opens to the surface of the core adjacent the locking/unlocking groove. A core insertion/removal groove is formed on the core adjacent the keyway on the opposite side from the locking/unlocking groove. A normal operating key which is inserted in the keyway permits retraction of the detent so that the core may be moved between the locked and unlocked positions, but prevents passage of the stop between the locking/unlocking groove and the core insertion/removal groove.

Abstract: A lock is provided for use in preventing relative movement of first and second sliding panels arranged in side-by-side passing relation. The lock includes a lock cylinder that is mounted in the first sliding panel and has an inner wall defining a core-receiving chamber. The lock further includes a lock core that has a slot for receiving a key and is slidably mounted in the core-receiving chamber for movement between a projected and retracted position. In its projected position, the lock core substantially blocks movement of the second sliding panel in relation to the first sliding panel. In its retracted position, the lock core permits unhindered movement of the second sliding panel in relation to the first sliding panel. In a first embodiment, the lock core includes separate first and second control lugs positioned in spaced-apart relation. In a second embodiment, the lock core includes a single control lug.

Abstract: A cylinder lock with a removable plug incorporates a series of spring biased combinating disc tumblers which cooperate with a first key in normal lock operation. An additional, unbiased control tumbler at the end of the plug cooperates with a retention flange associated with the cylinder to retain the plug against removal from the cylinder while permitting rotation of the plug in the cylinder. Abstract: A lock is disclosed having a lock barrel with an opening and a key plug rotatable within the opening. The plug is rotatable between first and second operative positions and a third position in which the plug can be withdrawn from the barrel. A tab on the plug abuts a barrel shoulder to hold the plug in the barrel except when the plug is in the third position, where the tab is aligned with an axial slot to permit axial withdrawal of the plug from the barrel. At least one tumbler is adapted to lock the plug against turning, and another tumbler is adapted to prevent the plug from turning to the third position and to allow rotation between the first and second positions. Abstract: A lock of the cylinder type having a plurality of discs forming part of the barrel assembly and being rotatable relative to one another and to the body of the barrel assembly. The rotational axis of each disc is substantially coincident with the rotational axis of the complete barrel assembly and each disc has a keyway forming opening which contains that axis. Locking means such as a side locking bar is operative to hold the barrel assembly against rotation relative to the lock cylinder, but that locking means is responsive to the rotational positioning of the discs to release the barrel assembly for rotation when the discs have a particular rotational position relative to one another. The barrel assembly can be rotated in either direction away from the normally locked condition. A key for use with such a lock has an elongate blade which is of non-circular cross section and is twisted to create a plurality of relatively angularly disposed locating portions which are spaced apart longitudinally of the blade.

A recess is formed in the pin tumbler lobe of the core body and opens both outward through the side of the body and downward toward the key plug lobe. A control sleeve in the key plug lobe has a wide longitudinal rib which carries a core-retaining lug which extends from such rib both circumferentially of the sleeve and radially outward thereof into said recess so as to substantially increase the effective cross section of the lug for increased pull resistance.
