Abstract: A user requests a plurality of content feeds. Content associated with the content feeds is periodically retrieved and converted to a print format. Contents associated with the content feeds are stored in the print format. Indications corresponding to the content feeds are provided to a network connected printer and displayed on a user interface thereof, including an indication that new content is available in the print format.

Abstract: A system for displaying the listings of files and/or folders in one of a plurality of different views (e.g., gallery view or list view). In particular embodiments, the system determines which of the views to display in the listings in based on: (1) the types of files to be displayed; (2) a specified preference of a content sharer; and/or (3) a specified preference of a content recipient. Various embodiments are particularly useful for displaying lists of files that a content sharer shares with a content recipient via a URL within the context of a synched file sharing system.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are provided for providing alternative text for use in association with image data specified by a uniform resource identifier (URI). The method includes identifying a URI specifying image data, processing the URI to identify data representing alternative text encoded within the URI, and extracting any identified alternative text data for use in association with the image data.

Abstract: A user interface tag for use in processing a document is provided. A printable surface is on one side of a document and an adhesive surface is on an other side of the document. The printable surface further includes a printed data field, including machine-readable marks of digital data encoding a service and a user identity; and a printed border surrounding the printed data field to define an iconic representation. A scanned representation of the machine-readable marks is decoded from the iconic representation to specify the user identity and the service.

Abstract: A user interface tag for use in processing a service on a scannable document is provided. A printable surface is on one side of the scannable document and an adhesive surface is on another side of the scannable document. The printable surface further includes a printed data field specified substantially within the printable surface, including machine-readable marks of digital data encoding a service code and a user identification number; and a printed rectilinear border surrounding the printed data field to define a rectilinear iconic representation. A scanned representation of the machine-readable marks is located by identifying the printed rectilinear border using corner candidates oriented in diametric opposition from among connected components identified on the document and the scanned representation of the machine-readable marks are decoded from the rectilinear iconic representation to specify the user identification number and the service code.

Abstract: An education digital reading platform provides pages of a document requested by a user, the pages including additional content layers associated with the requested content. The additional content layers including related content, user generated content, advertisement content and other services content offered by the digital reading platform. The requested content and additional content layers require processing capability on a web browser application. The amount of data associated with a page of a document may vary dramatically especially considering the additional layers of content associated with the pages. In order to permit the web browser application anticipate the processing needs associated with each page, the digital reading platform provides markers indicating a difference in processing requirements associated between two pages of a document.

Abstract: Calendar repair using a standard message may be provided. Calendar events, such as appointments and meetings, may be created and copied to a plurality of attendee calendars. A first copy of the event may be compared to a second copy of the event to determine whether properties between the events are out-of-sync. If so, a standard meeting request message comprising the correct value may be sent to update the out-of-sync property.

Abstract: Various embodiments of apparatus, systems and/or methods are described for providing user generated content relating to a subject, and collecting polling data relating to the subject, on multiple disparate communication devices. User generated content is received from one or more disparate communication devices and provided for presentation on at least one of the communication devices. Polling data is also received from at least one of the end-users of the communication devices viewing the user generated content, and tabulated to generate poll results displayable on the communication devices.

Abstract: A method of achieving synchronous playback of media content over the internet, such as digital video and audio, when the media content is stored on a host that does not have synchronous broadcasting software installed. Users select media sources that are accessible from one or more content servers and create a broadcast playlist. A database maintains a virtual-time record of the broadcast. A server receives a client request for the broadcast, retrieves the virtual-time record from the database, and delivers it to the client. The client then accesses the remotely-stored media source and plays it in a media player, synchronously with all other clients receiving the broadcast.

Abstract: There is disclosed a system and method for processing multi-modal collaboration. In an embodiment communication received from multiple modes are converted into a common format. Using various conversion modules, the communication may be converted into a common electronic text format (e.g. ASCII text) that contains keywords. Once the communication is converted into a common format, the information contained in the communication may be analyzed and consolidated into related areas or topics. The consolidated information may then be searched for common references in order to augment the information context.

Abstract: Tools and techniques for media portability and compatibility for different destination platforms are provided. These tools may receive commands to launch a media portability capability, and may receive source media as input for transformation. These tools may also receive indications of profile settings for specifying how to transform the source media for enhanced portability on destination systems for playback. The source media may be transformed in response to the profile setting, with the transformed media inserted into a document. The tools may then distribute the document to the destination system for playback.

Abstract: A method of optimizing the delivery of a set of data elements from a first device to a second device. The method includes retrieving from a data source the set of data elements, including a first subset of the set of data elements, a second subset of the set of data elements, and a third subset of the set of data elements. The method also includes transferring the first subset of the set of data elements to the second device. The method further includes selecting a fourth subset of the set of data elements, wherein the fourth subset can be comprised of data elements from the first subset and the second subset, or wherein the fourth subset can be comprised of data elements from the second subset and the third subset. The method also includes transferring a fourth subset of the set of data elements to the second device.

Abstract: An approach is provided for switching between presentations of two media items. A media platform determines a request to cause, at least in part, a switching of a presentation of a first media item to a second media item. The media platform processes and/or facilitates a processing of metadata associated with the first media item, the second media item, or a combination thereof to cause, at least in part, a synthesis of one or more transitions. The media platform causes, at least in part, a presentation of the one or more transitions during the switching.

Abstract: A method of displaying an electronic book includes techniques for allowing a person to self-publish an electronic book by employing tones of the electronic book and displaying the book on a two-dimensional graphical book map in which the location of the book on the map is based on the identified tones and degrees of those tones. A genre map including various book genres and subgenres also are employed. A person desiring to find a book having desired tones/characteristics uses the genre map and then the displayed graphical book map.

Abstract: Multimedia content is featured on user pages of an online social network using embed codes that are generated using a configuration file associated with the source ID for the multimedia content and a content ID for the multimedia content. The configuration file, the source ID and the content ID are stored locally by the online social network so that any changes to the embed codes can be made by changing the configuration file associated with the source and regenerating the embed codes. By managing multimedia content in this manner, greater control can be exercised by the online social network over the multimedia content that are featured on its user pages.

Abstract: A method of decoding, composing and rendering a scene. First information is obtained, the first information including a part of a MPEG-4 BIFS scene description stream and at least one coded MPEG-4 media stream. The first information is decoded by invoking a BIFS scene decoder and one or more specific media decoders that are required by the scene. Second information is obtained, the second information including a second part of a BIFS scene description stream that contains a reference to an external application. The second information is decoded by invoking the BIFS scene decoder and an external application decoder. An integrated scene is composed, the integrated scene including one or more decoded MPEG-4 media objects and one or more external application objects specified in the decoded scene descriptions streams. The composed integrated scene is rendered on a display.

Abstract: A system, method, and storage medium for generating visual content in plural versions for substantially simultaneous display on the same display device are provided. The system includes memory for storing static content having at least one document element common to a first and second version of a document, multi-dimensional content having at least one customized document element for each document version to be inserted into a variable area within the first and second versions of the document, and multi-dimensional parameters defining static areas, variable areas, and customized document elements for each document version. The system further includes a rendering module adapted to generate a first frame-image corresponding to the first document version and a second frame-image corresponding to the second document version by arranging the static content and multi-dimensional content of each document version according to the multi-dimensional parameters.

Abstract: A computer program product for standardizing the appearance of related accessories installed on a base product. The base product and related accessories can be visualized from a plurality of view-angles on a configurator application. An accessory is loaded onto the base product by an image transformation tool that manipulates the accessory to fit onto the base product. The transformed accessory is saved as a t-matrix profile for each view-angle of the base product, and the t-matrix profiles are associated with an accessory classification, which includes additional accessories that similarly fit the base product. The visualization data associated with the base product can then be updated with the t-matrix profiles. A customer GUI is provided for viewing the accessories fitted onto the base product where the transformations can automatically transform other accessories in the same accessory classification on the base product. In an embodiment, the base product is a vehicle.

Abstract: Content is received from a content source that is to be converted and provided to a subscriber. The subscriber is then associated with a document object model and rules for transforming the content according to the document object model. The content is mapped to the document object model using the rules to result in modified content so that the modified content can be provided to the subscriber. In one arrangement, an accompanying architecture includes a mobile device, an intelligent content gateway server (or group of servers), and one or more remote content sources. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.

This system provides video media streams to multiple platforms such as, cell phones, internet websites, and cable television subscribers.

As such, one embodiment, among others, includes the step of receiving input from a user. The received input is indicative of a selection of an image. The image corresponds to a text string. Abstract: Object merging in an electronic document may be provided. First, a selection of at least two objects within the electronic document may be received. Then, in response to the received selection of the at least two objects, a menu listing a plurality of merge operations configured to be performed on the selected at least two objects may be provided. A merge operation may then be selected, previewed, and applied to the selected at least two objects.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for concurrently accessing network-based electronic content in a Voice Browser and a Visual Browser can include the steps of retrieving a network-based document formatted for display in the Visual Browser; identifying in the retrieved document a reference to the Voice Browser, the reference specifying electronic content formatted for audible presentation in the Voice Browser; and, transmitting the reference to the Voice Browser. The Voice Browser can retrieve the specified electronic content and audibly present the electronic content. Concurrently, the Visual Browser can visually present the network-based document formatted for visual presentation in the Visual Browser.

Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes establishing a video session in which a plurality of displays are used for rendering video data, and evaluating a presentation element in order to identify a control element that includes control data. The control element is included in the presentation element. The method further includes communicating at least a portion of the control data such that it can be used to determine which video data is to be rendered on the plurality of displays.

Abstract: A method and system for building an Internet portal provides a portal toolkit platform consisting at least in part of a portal application server and a web server associated with the portal toolkit platform that is accessible by at least one end user. A business is allowed to access the portal application server and fill one or more content management templates from a selection of content management templates governing content elements to be presented to end users via the website server. When an end user accesses the website server, content governed by the template is presented for the end user by the portal application server via the web server. The business can populate a database with content and populate the web server, for example, with a set of images, HTML files, and other assets such as PDF files and build an Internet portal on top of the toolkit as an approach to integrating transaction systems.

Abstract: There is a desire to provide a way to determine relative skills of players of games such as computer games, chess, tennis and any other suitable type of game. Our earlier Bayesian Scoring system is implemented in Xbox Live (trade mark) and is currently commercially available under the trade name TrueSkill (trade mark). Here we build on our earlier work and use a new method of computation to enable processing times to be significantly reduced. Message passing techniques are adapted to enable computation of updated skill beliefs to be obtained quickly even in the case of multiple teams of multiple players.

Abstract: A context control interface may include a context name field that is arranged and configured to identify a working context, one or more attribute name fields that are configured to identify one or more attributes that define the working context and one or more attribute value fields that are arranged and configured to correspond to the attribute name fields and to define one or more values for the attribute name fields. The attribute name fields and the corresponding attribute value fields may be mapped to a first set of fields in a first application and may be mapped to second set of fields in a second application and the attributes and the values populate the first set of fields and the second set of fields such that the working context is persistent across the first application and the second application, where the first application differs from the second application.

Abstract: The invention provides for methods, devices and systems for extracting requirements from narratives, in particular to methods of using stories told individually to extract technical requirements. One method for extracting requirements from a narrative comprises gathering a plurality of sub-stories from stakeholders, combining the plurality of sub-stories into a narrative, extracting information components from the narrative, mapping the extracted information components to story elements, mapping the identified story elements to requirement artifacts, and building at least requirements document from the mapped requirement artifacts.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for searching for resources in an e-book are provided. The apparatus includes a memory having a resource-to-location mapping table in which information about resources of the e-book is mapped to location information that matches the resources of the e-book, and a controller for creating the resource-to-location mapping table and for controlling a search for a resource of the e-book that matches a location in the resource-to-location mapping table and a display of the detected resource of the e-book.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for encryption of a scalable video coding (SVC) bitstream, which is the next-generation coding technology. The encryption method encrypts Network Abstraction Layer (NAL) data identified according to multidimensional scalability for space, time, and quality with respect to a bitstream created after an SVC encoding, thereby providing a multidimensional scalability function for space, time, and quality even after the encryption, so that the scalability is also maintained even in a bitstream extraction process after the encryption. According to such a scalable encryption method, a specific portion of an encrypted bitstream is removed in a bitstream extraction process, and user access to the bitstream is limited based on a combination of keys for accessing a specific scalability. Therefore, it is possible to protect scalable video content and to access the video content based on scalabilities.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for selecting and utilizing multiple recognizers to process an utterance based on a markup language document. The markup language document and an utterance are received in a computing device. One or more recognizers are selected from among the multiple recognizers for returning a results set for the utterance based on markup language in the markup language document. The results set is received from the one or more selected recognizers in a format determined by a processing method specified in the markup language document. An event is then executed on the computing device in response to receiving the results set.

Abstract: A system and method for optimizing content of a web page is disclosed. The system comprises a configuration analysis module, a request analysis module, an analytics module and an optimization module that are communicatively coupled to each other. The configuration analysis module receives first and second sets of web interaction data associated with a web page and determines first and second content configurations for the first and second sets of web interaction data, respectively. The request analysis module receives first and second requests for the first and second content configurations, respectively, and extracts a first set of event data from the first request and a second set of event data from the second request. The analytics module generates a first set and a second set of video-aware analytics data. The optimization module optimizes the content of the web page based at least in part on video-aware analytics data.

Abstract: A method and system for selectively supplying media content to a user includes a first media storage device acquired by the user from a media content provider. The storage device includes first media content and information related to second media content, both of which are preferably accessible from the storage device immediately upon acquisition. After the user has reviewed the storage device's contents, the content provider receives a request from the user (e.g., at a website server) to obtain the second media content. Responsive to the request, the content provider selectively provides the user electronic access to the second media content without providing the user a second media storage device. For example, the content provider may provide the user an access code that allows the user to unlock the second media content from the first media storage device, which content was preferably prestored thereon in encrypted or another locked form.

Abstract: In various embodiments, methods, systems, and computer program products for processing digital images captured by a mobile device are disclosed. Myriad features enable and/or facilitate processing of such digital images using a mobile device that would otherwise be technically impossible or impractical, and furthermore address unique challenges presented by images captured using a camera rather than a traditional flat-bed scanner, paper-feed scanner or multifunction peripheral.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a method for scheduling a broadcast using the same. The broadcast scheduling method includes generating a program information table, in which broadcast information is arranged, if a broadcast program selected by a user in the program information table is moved into an area adjacent to an icon, displaying the broadcast program being added to an item folder, and scheduling the broadcast program.

Abstract: A system and technique for capturing a workflow history and video of an electronic document are disclosed. Events generated by an application while modifying an electronic document are stored on a web server as metadata. In addition, a captured digital image or frames of captured digital video that reflect the state of the document at the time the event was generated are also stored on the web server. The metadata is associated with one or more portions of the document and with the captured digital image or frames of captured digital video.

Abstract: A method for video playback uses only resources universally supported by a browser (“inline playback”) operating in virtually all handheld media devices. In one case, the method first prepares a video sequence for display by a browser by (a) dividing the video sequence into a silent video stream and an audio stream; (b) extracting from the silent video stream a number of still images, the number of still images corresponding to at least one of a desired output frame rate and a desired output resolution; and (c) combining the still images into a composite image. In one embodiment, the composite image having a number of rows, with each row being formed by the still images created from a fixed duration of the silent video stream.

Abstract: A method for distributing cached messages in a load-balanced publish/subscribe messaging network using an HTTP redirect in response to an HTTP client message request is disclosed. The redirect response including a URI at which a next message in a list of sequential messages slated for the HTTP client per the request is located, wherein the HTTP client uses the URI to automatically iterate through and receive the entire list of sequential messages.
