Abstract: Some embodiments provide a media-editing application that includes several background-rendering modules. These modules automatically render segments of a media presentation in the background of a system on which the media-editing application is being executed. By performing rendering in the background, the background-rendering modules produce rendered results for the segments. That is, the modules pre-generate playable media output data (e.g., composite video frames or audio samples) of the media presentation without interrupting other operations (e.g., editing operations, etc.) of the media-editing application. The background-rendering modules in some embodiments include a first background-rendering module and a second background-rendering module. The first background-rendering module determines a prioritized order in which the segments are to be rendered.

Abstract: A workflow application allows users to store, manage, and perform tasks related to workflows comprised of ordered sets of documents. The application provides an interface for creating and managing a workflow. Each document added to the workflow is assigned to a particular position in the workflow. Via the interface, the user saves data defining the workflow. In this manner, the workflow may be shared or preserved for subsequent re-use. The application allows a user to perform various tasks with respect to the workflow. Via an interface control presented by the application, the user instigates such tasks. In response, the application causes the task to be performed for each document in the workflow in an order corresponding to the arrangement of the documents within the workflow. For example, the application may render and print each document in the workflow. Or, the application may generate a combined workflow report.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method, an apparatus, and a communication system for transmitting graphic information. In the technical solution of the present invention, the graphic information carries a hyperlink and an identifier of the hyperlink so that when the terminal receives the graphic information, the terminal may judge, according to the identifier of the hyperlink, whether the hyperlink has been processed, and the terminal requests the graphic from the network according to the hyperlink only when determining that the hyperlink has not been processed, therefore ensuring an effective decrease in bandwidth consumption of broadcast or multicast channels, effectively avoiding repeated processing and presentation of a same hyperlink by the terminal, and reducing the complexity of the processing of the terminal.

Abstract: The invention provides, in some aspects, methods for electronic document distribution that permit automatic transmittal of a set of documents to one or more recipients. The set includes documents pre-existing at the time the distribution is specified, as well as at least one that is subsequently created. Such “mixed-mode” distribution can be used, for example, to effect automatic distribution of pre-existing word processing documents (or spreadsheets, etc.), along with a newly scanned document, e.g., a hand-written note. Distribution of the documents is triggered by creation of the latter document—in this example, the scanned hand-written note.

Abstract: In particular embodiments, a search request is received at a social network. A search may be performed to find any matching users whose associated content matches one or more terms in the search request. The search may be performed in a data store of social networking content associated with users of the social network. Matching users having matching associated content may be determined from the search results. Associated content information for at least one matching user may be retrieved. Information to display a web page may be sent in response to the search request. The information to display the web page may comprise profile information and the associated content information for the matching users.

Abstract: A system and method for a content player to determine and retrieve a graphical asset associated with a player feature supported by the content. The content player downloads the graphical assets, integrates the graphical assets in the player's graphical user interface, and displays the graphical assets as part of the player's user interface. The user can now select one of the graphical assets to enable the player feature associated with the graphical asset.

Abstract: The invention provides a display interface in a social networking system that enables the presentation of information related to a user in a timeline or map view. The system accesses information about a user of a social networking system, including both data about the user and social network activities related to the user. The system then selects one or more of these pieces of data and/or activities from a certain time period and gathers them into timeline units based on their relatedness and their relevance to users. These timeline units are ranked by relevance to the user, and are used to generate a timeline or map view for the user containing visual representations of the timeline units organized by location or time. The timeline or map view is then provided to other users of the social networking system that wish to view information about the user.

Abstract: A method and system for entering information into a software application resident on a mobile communication facility is provided. The method and system may include recording speech presented by a user using a mobile communication facility resident capture facility, transmitting the recording through a wireless communication facility to a speech recognition facility, transmitting information relating to the software application to the speech recognition facility, generating results utilizing the speech recognition facility using an unstructured language model based at least in part on the information relating to the software application and the recording, transmitting the results to the mobile communications facility, loading the results into the software application and simultaneously displaying the results as a set of words and as a set of application results based on those words.

Web pages are analyzed to identify associated electronic documents. A retrieved web page is analyzed to identify at least one dynamic element. The dynamic element is analyzed to determine a network location of at least one associated electronic document. The dynamic element may be analyzed by applying a pattern matching or by executing the dynamic element to identify the network location of at least one associated electronic document.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a method of performing web-based keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) redirection implemented by a baseboard management controller (BMC). The method includes: (a) receiving, at a BMC, first and second video frames redirected from a host computer, the BMC performing a management function of the host computer, (b) generating a webpage at a web server of the BMC and sending the webpage to a browser program running on a computing device in a network, the webpage being programmed to instruct the browser program to initiate a drawable area and to establish a Web Socket connection with the web server, (c) generating a processed image representing the second video frame, (d) establishing a Web Socket connection between the web server and the browser program, and (e) sending the processed image to the browser program through the Web Socket connection.

Abstract: A new method for semantic segmentation and tagging of a patent or a technical document is provided. The semantic tags are used for search and display of patents. The semantic tagging method involves creating automatic tags for preamble, elements, and sub-elements, and their respective attributes and relationships in patent claims. The tags are used in patent search to improve search performance. The tags are used in a novel user interface for viewing and analyzing one or more patents. The user interface provides a unique method to display different tags of a patent, which provides critical information towards comprehending the patent, and helps create better search queries related to the patent.

Abstract: An ImageWiki architecture is used to generate an image-based web page for an image on the Web. An ImageWiki page may be created automatically or individually, by a user of the Web. Additionally, a user may revise existing ImageWiki pages to update a particular page or correct an incorrect or misleading previous entry. The ImageWiki application indexes images located on the Web. Once the images are indexed, the information related to the images is mined and extracted from various sources of web data. Finally, an ImageWiki page or web page is generated for each image. The resulting ImageWiki page contains the image as well as the aggregated information relating to the image.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system are provided for performing a voice command on a client device. The method can include translating, using a first speech recognizer located on the client device, an audio stream of a voice command to a first machine-readable voice command and generating a first query result using the first machine-readable voice command to query a client database. In addition, the audio stream can be transmitted to a remote server device that translates the audio stream to a second machine-readable voice command using a second speech recognizer. Further, the method can include receiving a second query result from the remote server device, where the second query result is generated by the remote server device using the second machine-readable voice command and displaying the first query result and the second query result on the client device.

Abstract: A system for converting a collection of data to a structured, printable and navigable document includes: an analyzer and a layout unit. The analyzer is coupled to receive a data collection source such as a web page associated with a wiki and other user parameters, and generates a representation of content associated with the data collection source. The output of the analyzer is coupled to an input of the layout unit to provide the representation of content. The layout unit is also coupled to receive a style sheet or other user preferences. The linearizer of the layout unit retrieves the necessary content using the representation of content. The retrieved content is then formatted by the layout selector of the layout unit to generate a paginated document and metadata. This output can then be printed on any conventional printer or manipulated and interacted with using applications or a web browser.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed for creating web pages for third party web sites such as Facebook. A page creation system is disclosed for creating web pages that encourage visitors to like a particular page on a third party site. Integration details are received about a third party site. Upon selecting a particular page template, the template is displayed with incomplete sections of the page template for the user to fill in. Content is received from the user for incomplete sections to form a completed page content. A create page selection is received from the user. A blurred version of a web page is created from the completed page content. A normal version of the web page that is designed for display after the blurred version is also created. The blurred version and normal version of the web page are published to the third party site.

Abstract: A system for constructing seamlessly viewable multimedia content from selectably presentable multimedia content blocks includes a block definition module for facilitating creation and modification of the content blocks. The block definition module includes a media assignment submodule for associating a synchronized audio and video segment with a content block. Also included is a block linking submodule for creating seamless connections between content blocks, whereby a transition between the connected blocks occurs substantially without interruption upon viewing the multimedia content. The block definition module further includes a layer submodule for associating an interactive layer having interactive controls with the content block.

Abstract: The method and system of the present invention provides an improved method for asset transition project management. Information is aggregated from a variety of sources into a centralized computerized database. Thereafter, assets that are electronically connected to the computerized database are monitored. If a transition occurs, information concerning the transition is input into the computerized database on a real-time basis during the implementation of the transition. The information input into the computerized database can be used to manage the transition.

The components that represent enhanced content also may be edited in the same way as components that represent time-based media. Enhanced content may be represented by enhancement files that include data defining enhancements. An enhancement includes an identifier of the enhancement within the enhancement file, and a reference to a file defining enhanced content associated with the enhancement.

For a selected layer of the artwork, a non-transparent region is identified and an action is assigned to an area corresponding to the non-transparent region, the action defining a function that will be activated when the area is selected. The technique is advantageous in computer application programs that composite images from layers and for producing HTML (HyperText Markup Language) output that refers to a corresponding composited image, where the action is a URL and the area is defined by an image map.

Abstract: A method and device for enhancing scrolling operations in a display of a device is disclosed. The method includes detecting a scrolling operation on a list of objects in a linear direction. During the scrolling operation, it is determined whether the list of objects is reaching an end and at least one object at the end of the list of objects is extended in the linear direction in response to reaching the end of the list of objects. Further, the method includes determining that the object(s) is reaching a peak length of extension in the linear direction and retracting the object(s) in a reverse linear direction in response to reaching the peak length or in response to detecting that the scrolling operation is terminated.

Abstract: Systems and methods of creating animated content items via a computer network are provided. A data processing system can provide a content generation application to a computing device via the computer network. The content generation application can have at least one interface configured to prompt for a first frame and a second frame. The content generation application, executed by at least one of the data processing system or the computing device, can determine a characteristic of an object in the first frame and the characteristic of the object in the second frame. A difference between the characteristic of the object in the first frame and the characteristic of the object in the second frame can be further determined. Based on the difference, an animation instruction can be generated. An animated content item, using the animation instruction, can then be generated.

Abstract: An interactive multimedia presentation has a predetermined presentation play duration, a video content component (which may include video, audio, data, or any combination thereof), and an interactive content component. Methods and systems for playing the presentation include specifying a time when a particular media object is renderable. The time is specifiable using an application instruction that references either a first timing signal having a rate that is based on the play speed of the presentation, or a second timing signal having a continuous rate. One example of an application instruction usable as described above is an element associated with an XML data structure. An attribute of the element, such as the clock attribute, may be used to provide time values for the element that reference either timing signal. The attribute is used to maintain frame-accurate synchronization between the video and the interactive content components of the presentation.

Abstract: Embedded system with web-based user interface, firmware structure thereof, and method for providing information thereof are provided. The firmware of the embedded system includes an execution part and a presentation part, which are separated, wherein the execution part includes a web service program and a program interface while the presentation part includes a web page which includes a request for dynamic content associated with the program interface so as to obtain corresponding dynamic content. When the system takes the presentation part as the static content of its web-based user interface, the web service program, in response to a static content request, reads the web page from the non-volatile memory and outputs it to a device, and in response to the dynamic content request, invokes the program interface to obtain the corresponding dynamic content and output it to the device.

Abstract: Determining relationships between graphical elements in a fixed format document is provided. Graphical element sizes and their relative positions may be analyzed to determine whether two or more graphical elements should be aggregated together or whether the graphical elements should belong to different graphical groups. Graphs and figures comprising objects that are absolutely positioned may be detected, as well as objects where inter-element positions need to be preserved from regular document flow. Additionally, background objects may be differentiated from regular text flow when the objects overlap with text.

Abstract: A method for automatically extracting and organizing information by a processing device from a plurality of data sources is provided. A natural language processing information extraction pipeline that includes an automatic detection of entities is applied to the data sources. Information about detected entities is identified by analyzing products of the natural language processing pipeline. Identified information is grouped into equivalence classes containing equivalent information. At least one displayable representation of the equivalence classes is created. An order in which the at least one displayable representation is displayed is computed. A combined representation of the equivalence classes that respects the order in which the displayable representation is displayed is produced.

Abstract: Tools and techniques are provided to support presentation analytics, such as Flash or Flex analytics, independently of embedded JavaScript web analytics code used in web pages. A presentation analytics engine, which may be implemented in ActionScript, includes code for capturing information about user interaction with a multimedia presentation, code for dynamically generating a string or other data structure reflecting such captured information, and code for sending the data structure to an analytics server without using a getURL( ) call or embedded JavaScript. Functionality is also provided for tracking objects without object-specific code, for dynamically sending such tracking information, and for supporting a visual presentation analytics overlay report illustrating such information. The Flash presentation analytics may use the same visitor ID as standard JavaScript analytics, without synchronizing the two analytics codes.

Abstract: Common metadata exposure with digital images involves making image metadata types that are common across multiple image file formats accessible via an application programming interface (API). In an example embodiment, a browser exposes an image metadata API that may be called with reference to a preselected image metadata name. The browser determines an image metadata value that is associated with the preselected image metadata name from image metadata of a targeted image. When the image metadata value is returned to a caller of the image metadata API, the caller may consume or present the image metadata value in any manner.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing shared state within a distributed system with varying consistency and consensus semantics are described. In one configuration, a computing device receives a first plurality of objects representing the state of a first item and a second plurality of objects representing the state of a second item. The computing device generates a composed view of the state of each of the first item and the second item. The resulting composed views are transmitted using a reliable multicast protocol.

Abstract: Computer-storage media, methods, and systems for formatting and surfacing a badge are provided. The badge represents a graphical region presented in visual association with a search result on a web-results page. The format of the badge is initially dictated by a template that is automatically generated. Upon collecting performance information, a website owner is granted permission to alter the template and appearance of the badge, via a publisher portal. During interaction with the publisher portal, the website owner is prompted to provide feedback in order to manage parameters of the badge, such as uploading a visual representation of a logo, trademark, or other branded element, or specifying a type of metadata to be imported to the graphical region. Accordingly, the badge operates to improve a users' ability to distinguish between search results on the web-results page and assists users in confidently deciding upon and selecting a relevant search result.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and system of private neighborhood social networks, according to one embodiment. In one aspect, a method of providing users of information with timely information about a news story related to the geographic locations of the users includes receiving a submission of a news story from the Internet via a computer network interface device. A contact database is searched to select users whose geographic locations indicate a proximity to the geographic location of the news story. The selected users are provided with the geographic location of the news story, the description of the details of the news story, and the information related to items associated with the news story. An interested user is enabled to form an immediate communication in the form of an online interview with a neighboring user surrounding the specific geographic location of the news story.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a document encoded in a markup language, having a page with an image and text, and creating a first high-level graphics (HLG) object corresponding to the image. The first HLG object specifies a first z-index less than zero for the first HLG object. The method further includes generating a first entry in an input file including a pointer to the first HLG object, generating a second entry in the input file corresponding to the text, and generating an output file using a typesetting program and the input file. In response to the first z-index not being zero, the method includes parsing the output file to identify the page, creating the page ItemHandles List (IL), and adding a first ItemHandle including the pointer and corresponding to the first entry to the IL. The method further includes generating a display list using the output file and the IL.

Abstract: An adaptive streaming server, a method, and a system are described herein that create a content stream to be delivered to one or more clients by segmenting the content into data structures which are stored in random access memory (volatile storage) rather than segmenting the content into segment files which are stored on a disk or database (non-volatile storage).

Abstract: A method for marking web content. The method includes rendering first content on a web browser of a client device, and capturing a snapshot of the first content as rendered according to settings of the web browser. The method also includes receiving markup in association with the snapshot, and generating marked up content comprising the snapshot and the markup. The method also includes storing the marked up content for later access.
