Abstract: A text input method and apparatus of a portable terminal supporting a virtual keypad including a plurality of character keys are provided. The method includes displaying, when a text input mode is activated, a virtual keypad including a plurality of key regions, each key region being assigned plural letters, compounding, when a touch movement event is detected on the virtual keypad, letters assigned to a first key region to which a touch-down event is made with letters assigned to a second key region to which a touch-up event is made into compound letters, displaying the compound letters, and inputting, when a compound letter is selected, the compound letter selected.

Abstract: While a user interacts with a networked host application such as creating or editing documents, the user is enabled to invoke (or otherwise act on) a partner-selection user interface presentation to explore available partner services for carrying out a desired partner function that is complementary to the host application functionality. The user is further enabled to select one of the partner services listed in the partner-selection user interface presentation, in response which, the host application automatically instructs the partner service to perform the desired partner function complementing the host functions performed by the host application in an integrated and seamless manner.

Abstract: A system and method that converts the digital typesetting documents used in publishing to a device-specific format for electronic publishing. A “smart file and device-specific application” approach maintains the “look and feel” (design) of the source document used for print publication while typesetting for a specific device. Although this approach requires considerably more resources to create a smart file for each device-specific format, the smart file retains the unique typesetting characteristics of the printed book, is more aesthetically pleasing, and is easier to read. Furthermore, the device-specific application can render the smart file more quickly thereby eliminating any latency.

Abstract: Dynamic icons associated with remote content provide one or more pieces of information to a user by changing the appearance of the icon based on changes to data of a data source associated with the icon. For example, when the icon represents data available from a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed, the icon may be represented as an image extracted from the RSS feed, which may change when the RSS feed is updated or includes new content. In some embodiments, the icon may by dynamically updated based on user information and/or device information, such as an icon for a weather forecast that is based at least in part on a location of a device and thus directs the icon to show imagery and/or information based at least in part on the respective location.

Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed which relate to improving the efficiency of text input by dynamically generating a visually assistive virtual keyboard. Exemplary variations display a soft keyboard on a touchscreen of a text-entry device. The touchscreen works with the soft keyboard as a form of text input. Keyboard logic on the text-entry device is programmed to change the visual appearance of each key within the soft keyboard based on the prior entry. The keyboard logic assigns a prediction value to each key based on a statistical probability that the key will be entered next. The touchscreen displays a visually enhanced keyboard based on these prediction values. Enhancements include resizing keys relative to their prediction value, rearranging the keys a distance from the previous key entered inverse to its prediction value, etc.

Abstract: Disclosed are a mobile communication device and a method of controlling the same in which an image of a web page is stored as a thumbnail image when the web page is added to a list of favorites. When the list of favorites is requested from the mobile communication device, a plurality of thumbnail images corresponding to a plurality of web pages added to the list of favorites are displayed.

Abstract: A digital processing system provided according to an aspect of the present invention processes items received from different data sources, specifically when a second set of items received from a second data source is related to corresponding ones of a first set of items received from a first data source. In one embodiment, each of the items in the first set and the second set is first assigned a corresponding digital value and then sorted according to a sort order of the assigned digital values to form a sorted output. The digital values are assigned such that items in the second set are grouped with related corresponding ones of the first set of items. Thus, items from different sources are merged (and sorted) based on the relation between the items.

Abstract: A method of displaying a menu based on at least one of a depth information and a space gesture is provided. The method including determining depth information corresponding to a distance from a screen of a user terminal to a hand of a user; identifying at least one layer among a plurality of layers based on the depth information; and applying a graphic effect to the identified layer so that a menu page corresponding to the at least one identified layer is displayed on the screen of the user terminal.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus provide a carousel interface for efficiently accessing data in a touchscreen enabled device. At least one previously navigated object is displayed in a reference region of the carousel interface. Objects associated with a last navigated object are displayed in a carousel belt region of the carousel interface such that the carousel belt region wraps around one end of the reference region. A user input for selecting an object in the carousel interface is received. In response to the user input for selecting an object, the carousel interface is navigated to the selected object, and the carousel interface is updated with the selected object as the last navigated object.

A method may include analyzing handwriting data to recognize one or more objects depicted in the handwriting data. If one application is determined to be associated with the handwriting data, the one application may be launched. If two or more applications are determined to be associated with the handwriting data, information allowing a user to select an application to launch from the two or more applications may be displayed.

Abstract: Content may be displayed on a touch-screen display of a device as part of a graphical interface in which the content is divided into categories or sections, and each category/section is associated with a graphical tab. The device may detect a selection of one of the graphic tabs based on a touch gesture received by the touch-screen display and display, on the touch-screen display, content items corresponding to the subset of content items for the selected tab.

Abstract: By a computer executing a driver program, an icon display processing unit, an operation detection unit, a setting change processing unit, and a customization unit are implemented. The icon display processing unit displays on a display device an icon associated with a setting item in an icon list. When a click operation is detected by the operation detection unit, the setting change processing unit changes a value of the setting item associated with the clicked icon to another value. Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention provides a cross platform computer application that displays onscreen messages in the form of text, images and videos. Single messages, images and videos can be bundled into message sets. The main functions of the application are creating or acquiring and storing sets of messages, which can be retrieved, edited, managed, and shared with others. Chosen message sets can be viewed on the user's computing device or TV with several onscreen display options including, but not limited to the frequency of messages, their duration, their size and onscreen position.

Abstract: Integrating multiple transport modes into a single communication stream on a computing device such as a mobile computing device. One or more recipients and one or more transport modes available for communication with the one or more recipients are provided to a user. An application program executing on the computing device receives a first message from the user to send to one or more selected recipients. The computing device transmits the received first message to the selected recipients via a first transport mode. Thereafter, the computing device receives a second message from one of the recipients via a second transport mode. The received second message is displayed to the user in the same communication stream by the application program. As an example, the user uses the application program to communicate with the recipients using text messaging, electronic mail message, and other transport modes.

Abstract: The invention disclosed herein is directed to a system and method for displaying graphics, text, animation, video and other content. In one embodiment of the invention, the system comprises a three-dimensional “Display Carousel” system. The system may include one or more display windows, each of which is capable of displaying different content. The configuration of the windows may give the appearance of rotating like a carousel and also of the carousel and/or images being three-dimensional. Other features of the invention may include functionality which permits the uploading and downloading of content, statistical data gathering, and revenue generation.

Abstract: A method for using a finger swipe interface to control the functionality of a system comprises the following steps: storing a key swipe pattern; storing a key indicia; sensing a pick swipe pattern using a finger swipe interface; comparing the pick swipe pattern to the key swipe pattern; storing a positive result if the pick pattern is the key pattern; displaying, an array of different indicia at a plurality of discrete display locations. If a positive result, the array of indicia includes the key indicia, whereas if a negative result, the array does not include the key indicia. A pick indicia is sensed and compared to the key indicia. The system in controlled in a first manner if the pick indicia is the key indicia; and controlled in a second manner if the pick indicia is not the key indicia.

Abstract: The present invention generates a color template design to format a presentation. According to one aspect, a plurality of template designs are provided on a visual display. A selection of one of the plurality of template designs is received from a user. A plurality of source images that are separate from the plurality of template designs are provided on the visual display. A selection of a color from one of the plurality of source images is received from the user. Colors of the selected template design are automatically adjusted to match the selected the color from the source image. The selected template design may include framing, mat, background, and foreground portions, at least one of which is adjusted. After automatically adjusting the colors, the selected template design may be displayed and/or stored for use as a template.

Abstract: A method and program that improves the efficiency of menu tree visualization and navigation in graphical user interfaces. Menu items are displayed as call-out shaped objects each made up of a call-out bubble and its leading arm. The leading arm connects the call-out bubble with the higher level menu item, the context-menu reference point or any other reference point on the user-interface screen. Menu lists are displayed as sets of similar-sized call-out shapes, which can be arranged in a variety of ways. A menu item can be selected by selecting either the leading arm or the call-out bubble of a call-out shape. The selection of a menu item through the selection of its leading arm significantly reduces the distance over which the pointer has to be moved for menu tree navigation. This is because the leading arm of each of the call-out shapes in any menu item list is close to the pointer's position immediately following the preceding selection process.

Abstract: User interface state (UI) information (such as UI control values) are stored and revived when the user navigates and returns to an application. When an instance of a page is created, the page registers with a tombstone list and indicates which page state information on the page is to be stored and revived when a user navigates away from the application. When the user provides an input indicating navigation away from the application, the application accesses the tombstone list and stores the UI page state information. UI page state information is stored in a page state dictionary data structure that corresponds to the current instance of the page. Then, when the user navigates back to the application, the application accesses the page state dictionary and restores the values of the UI page state information so that the user interface display is in the same state as when the user navigated away from the application.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for providing a dynamic user interface (UI) to allow a user to select an active diagram shape for insertion into a flowchart or other diagram without leaving the drawing canvas. Through the use of the embodiments presented herein, a diagramming application provides a user with a dynamic UI within the drawing canvas that includes a selection of diagram shapes from a shape gallery located adjacent to the drawing canvas. Using the dynamic UI, the user may select and insert a shape into the diagram without leaving the canvas. Additionally, the user may select a replacement shape from the dynamic UI for replacing an existing diagram shape without leaving the drawing canvas. The dynamic UI is triggered for display next to a cursor when the cursor hovers over or navigates in proximity to a diagram shape, a connection control, or any other UI trigger.

Access to data and services from multiple software applications can be provided through a group or list of items. Each group or list can include multiple items, which can be associated with data or tasks from multiple applications. The set of groups of items can be both customizable and extensible to allow users to locate and utilize data and tasks relevant to the particular user. The set of item groups can provide users with a filtered view of content available through the mobile device, enhancing access to subset of data and tasks available on the mobile device.

The display apparatus includes: a display unit which displays a character input UI including a plurality of character items, each character item comprising a border and a character located in the border, an input unit which receives a user command to select one of the plurality of character items, and, a controller which, if a first character item is selected from among the plurality of character items through the input unit, controls the display unit to display at least one recommended character item associated with the first character to partially overlap with character items adjacent to the first character item. A user identifies a viewpoint within the scene that establishes a location and an orientation within a space of the scene from which to view the scene objects. Dynamically and independently from additional user actions, a proximity of each of the two or more objects from the viewpoint is determined. The ungrouped list of the two or more objects is sorted based on the proximities and displayed.

Abstract: A method and system to navigate viewable content in the context of television entertainment is provided. In one example embodiment, the system comprises a presentation module to present main content on a display screen, a communications module to receive a first request associated with a first directional key on a remote control device, a navigation mode detector to determine a navigation mode associated with the first request; a margin menu module to activate a margin menu associated with the determined navigation mode. The margin menu may be presented along one of the margins of a display screen, while permitting viewing of the main content.
