Abstract: The present invention provides an information processing apparatus that can make the user easily search for desired data. By mutually superposing and displaying icons of respective plural files and folders, and carrying out the flipping operation for thus superposed and displayed icons, an arbitrary icon is shifted and displayed such that the icon is spread. Accordingly, the operation of searching for a desired icon from among the plural icons can be made more intuitive and comprehensible with a sense of flipping a page of a book. Furthermore, since plural icons indicative of the contents of files and folders corresponding to the respective plural icons are displayed such that the icons are not superposed one another, the user can visually confirm the contents of the respective icons, which makes it possible to easily search for an icon of a desired file or folder, and easily search for desired data consequently.

Abstract: In electronics devices, a user interface and method for presenting and selecting user selectable items with a limited number of inputs is described. In one embodiment, a portable media player, three buttons are utilized as hint selectors and choice items are associated with hints selectors and displayed with these hints. When a hint selector is actuated, choice items not associated with the hint selector are eliminated from the choice items list and the remaining choice items are again associated with the hint selectors for display to the user. This process is repeated until a single choice items is selected by the hint selector. In one embodiment this method requires a maximum of Logb(N) user inputs to make the selection (where N is the cardinality of choice items and b is the cardinality of hint selectors). In one of the described embodiments a method is given for calculating a first order hints and subsequent order hints to display with the choice items.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for dividing patent claims into segments for display. A segmentation engine of a computer program searches for transitional phrases or other strings and divides the patent claims into a segment for each claim. The segmentation engine also searches for dependency references. A display engine of the program uses the dependency data to display the claims in a tree structure. The segmentation also divides each claim into subsegments containing the various components of the claim. The subsegments of each claim are displayed in a tree structure nested within the tree structure of the claims. A user may manipulate and/or select segmentation rules to determine how segmentation is carried out, or may alter display settings to determine which segments or subsegments are shown and which are hidden to expedite claim analysis.

The system may provide an operator or user with a simple, convenient method of browsing the details of devices in a list without the need to move back and forth throughout the list. The display may automatically adapt to the disparate properties of each type of device in the list. Also, the displayed details may be unique for a characterization of each device but be rendered in a common format.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, method and program providing a multi-tenant software as a service (SaaS) application that manages and monitors the use of other SaaS applications via a common connection and database framework. An Internet-based interface is provided as a single portal for monitoring and managing the use of SaaS applications. Objects and the state of these objects including all associated attributes related to the SaaS applications are stored in databases associated with the Internet-based interface. The Internet-based interface also provides a social networking infrastructure and an application exchange infrastructure that allows sharing of information related to the SaaS applications.

Abstract: A television menu system. A cross-media bar menu displays on a display upon actuation of a menu command. The cross-media bar menu displays a plurality of menu selections arranged in a crossing pattern. One of the menu selections serves as a focused menu selection either by default when the menu command is actuated or when focused upon by virtue of navigation to an icon by the user via the television interface device. A display window situated outside the cross-media bar display, displays a preview list of menu actions that can be taken by the user if the currently focused menu selection is selected by the user. The preview list is not a functional menu and does not form a part of the menu system. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

When a focus is targeting (e.g., located at) a given hot zone, one or more floating action buttons that are associated therewith are presented as part of the UI. Activation of a particular action button of the one or more floating action buttons causes an action corresponding to the particular action button to be implemented. In an example implementation, the actions available through the one or more floating action buttons may be context-sensitive such that the actions thereof are tailored to the type of item corresponding to the UI element (e.g., an icon, a graphical element, a text portion, a screen area, etc.).

Abstract: A data collection and viewing application provides a user interface that allows a user to quickly and easily examine a particular batch process or a batch run, to compare separate batch runs and/or to determine whether the particular batch run deviates from a norm, without having to perform a lot of manual data manipulation. To this end, the user interface provides or creates a compact graphical representation of a batch, illustrating a number of different types of batch-related data in relation to one another in a manner that enables a user to easily view or understand the operation of the batch run, either alone or as compared with one or more other batch runs. Moreover, process alarms, alerts, events, as well as other information may be placed in one or more additional layers, and the various layers may be shown together to provide a compact graphical view of the batch.

Abstract: A user-activatable dashboard (also referred to as a unified interest layer) contains any number of user interface elements, referred to herein as “widgets,” for quick access by a user. In response to a command from a user, the dashboard is invoked and the widgets are shown on the screen. The user can activate the dashboard at any time, causing the dashboard to temporarily replace the existing user interface display on the user's screen. Once the dashboard has been activated, the user can interact with any or all of the widgets, and can configure the dashboard by adding, deleting, moving, or configuring individual widgets as desired. When the user wishes to return to the normal user interface he or she was working with, the user issues a command causing the dashboard to be dismissed. Once the dashboard has been dismissed, the previous user interface state is restored, allowing the user to resume normal interactions with the operating system.

Abstract: A system for consolidating associated buttons on a screen into easily accessible groups includes: a control button and at least one other button that appears when the control button is selected, where the at least one other button is contiguous with the control button. A user can quickly and conveniently select buttons. Furthermore, a significant amount of on-screen real estate is saved because the buttons used are small and square rather than long and rectangular. Further, the configuration of nested menus is such that it takes up little space on the screen. In addition, the menu is ergonomic because the buttons are contiguous, and as such selections can be made without the mouse pointer needing to move very far across the screen.

Abstract: A method for displaying and operating a user interface and an electronic device are provided. In the method, a background frame is displayed. Further, a trigger signal triggered by an object on one of a plurality of areas of the background frame is received, in which the areas respectively correspond to a plurality of sub-menus of a function menu, and each of the sub-menus includes a plurality of options. The corresponding sub-menu is displayed on the area of the background frame which the trigger signal is triggered on. Thereby, usage convenience of the user interface is improved.

Abstract: A hierarchical system is used to store data items easily capable of thumbnail representation (such as images). Such a hierarchical system may allow a folder (or other grouping) to contain both data items and sub-folders. The display of such a folder uses two display areas. In one display area, sub-folders are displayed using a list view, where text is the primary method for the display of the sub-folders which are contained in the folder. In the other display area, a grid view is used to display the data items. Thumbnail images are the primary components of the grid view. Functionality available to a user will change based on whether the user is browsing the list view or the grid view.

Upon a selection of a first icon in the plurality of icons by a user, the first space associated with the first icon expands horizontally along a longitudinal axis of the toolbar to display information in a second bounded space within the perimeter. Abstract: Improved systems and methods for navigating media via a user interface, such as a user interface provided on a handheld or portable computing device, are provided. The methods for navigating media of the invention extend the navigation experience by allowing bi-axial context shifts, e.g., with respect to substantially orthogonal directions, allowing a user to conceptually preserve context associated with the navigation experience, context that is lost in one-dimensional hierarchical navigation experiences. In one embodiment, the bi-axial navigation mechanism of the invention includes a drill down twist, i.e., the transformation of a parent list of a parent screen from a vertical list to a horizontal band when moving from the parent screen to the child screen and a horizontal browsing mechanism allowing a user to browse multiple lists using a continuous band of headers.

Visual and numeric indicators are assigned to all styles defined within the word processing application program. The visual indicator may be a unique color assigned and applied to each defined style. Upon launching the visual aids functionality, each style name in a styles pallet is displayed with its assigned visual and numeric indicators. The visual and numeric indicators are also displayed along side the text, with text of a given style being displayed with the visual and numeric indicator assigned to the style name. Thus, the visual aids allow a user to quickly ascertain which styles are applied to what text.

The user interfaces include at least one focus pointer that allow a user to quickly access the elements contained in a plurality of folders. A fixed focus pointer selects one of a plurality of elements of a main folder in response to interaction of a user. A moveable focus pointer scrolls through a plurality of elements of the first subfolder to select a second subfolder in response to interaction of a user. The user interface may include additional folders and focus pointers.
