Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a shaped part from an aluminum sheet comprising an aluminum alloy, in particular an aluminum alloy of the 5000 series, wherein at least one aluminum sheet is introduced in a forming tool and cold-formed by the same, and in a further step, or in further steps, the cold-formed aluminum sheet is heated at least once at least in some regions and at least once further formed. In order to create advantageous conditions for the method, it is proposed for the heated aluminum sheet to be subjected to the further forming step even before a temperature has been reached which the aluminum sheet has during the cold forming thereof.

Abstract: In a method of cutting high-tensile workpieces, in particular sheet metals of martensite steel, the workpiece is subjected to a bending stress prior and during a shearing process. The bending stress causes a substantial component of a tensile force transverse to a desired cutting contour. Tensile stresses are superimposed to the shearing stresses, which favor the beginning of the workpiece separation. The bending stress is preferably selected so that the resulting tensile stress exists at a side facing the cutting tool.

Abstract: A method of roughening metal surfaces of a workpiece such as a cylinder bore of an internal combustion engine to improve the adhesion of layers thermally sprayed thereon. Uniform grooves are formed in the surface and ridges are arranged between the grooves. The grooves may be formed by a process such as turning, drilling, milling or rolling. The ridges are plastically deformed in order to form undercuts in the grooves, with the degree of plastic deformation of the ridges varying regularly in the longitudinal direction of the grooves. Local deformations are produced in the ridge, and these bring about regular undercuts in the groove. This makes it possible to produce the undercuts in identical dimensions with little effort. Furthermore, since the groove is now not completely constricted by undercuts, it can be filled more effectively with spraying material.

Abstract: A cylinder block has functional surfaces machined by cutting and with at least one cylinder (5) with a coating. To simplify the production of the cylinder block, the cylinder block (1) has an inwardly projecting collar (25, 26) at the end of the cylinder (5) to delimit the cylinder (5) in the axial direction. The side of the collar (25, 26) facing away the from the cylinder (5) constitutes a stop for a suction extraction device (46) that serves for extracting excess coating material by suction.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for making a bicycle pedal, comprising the following steps: (A) cutting, in which an elongate metal plate is formed by pressing and two coupling holes are formed through the plate; (B) bending, in which the metal plate is bent to have the opposite ends jointed to each other, forming a circumferentially enclosed hollow pedal frame with the two coupling holes concentrically located and spaced from and opposing each other; and (C) welding, in which a collar is mounted outside the pedal frame concentric with respect to each of the coupling holes through welding to provide a sufficient contact area for rotatably receiving and supporting a spindle therein, whereby the pedal frame is rotatable about the spindle for pedaling operation of a bicycle. This method overcomes the various drawbacks occurring in metal-cast or plastic injection-molded bicycle pedals, providing economic advantages for high-mix low-volume productions.

Abstract: A current density changing portion is formed in a heating process on an upper base side with respect to a center portion of a flat metal plate in a direction of current flow, by passing current from a lower base side to the upper base side of the flat metal plate which is rectangular when viewed from above. As a result, a quenchable portion is formed on the upper base side with respect to the center portion of the flat metal plate in the direction of current flow, and a non-quenchable portion is formed on the lower base side with respect to the center portion of the flat metal plate in the direction of current flow. The flat metal plate is press-formed after the heating process, so a complex die cooling structure is not necessary during press-forming, which enables the die cost to be reduced.

The method includes, forming slits to a metal plate, which extend in a second direction, at predetermined intervals in a first direction so as to form core pieces between the adjacent slits; and rolling a portion of the metal plate in which the slits are not formed in the second direction to form a rolled portion extending in the first direction, and expanding the slits in the first direction to form spaces, thereby preparing a primary core in which the core pieces and the spaces are alternately provided in the first direction. Additionally, the method includes, supplying the primary core to between a pair of deformed portion forming rollers engaged with each other such that reinforcing defaulted portions extending in the second direction are repetitively formed in the first direction.

Abstract: A device and a method are provided to allow a user to ream a hole to an accurate final diameter as desired, and at the same time, to cold work the hole to induce a beneficial residual stress that will enhance the life of the component by retarding the onset and growth of fatigue cracks in the hole. The basic design of the device has an elongated body having a forward end portion to extend through a hole to be reamed and cold worked, a reamer section formed on the circumference of the forward end portion to enlarge the hole, and a burnishing section formed on the circumference of the elongated body adjacent to the reamer. The burnishing section is operative to upset the material around the hole, so as to result in a residual stress beneficial to the hole. The reamer section is in the form of a plurality of cutting edges extending from a tip of the elongated body, while the burnishing section is also in the form of a plurality of cutting edges adjacent to the reamer section along the elongate body.

Abstract: In a method of making through-passages in a perforated U-shaped sheet metal part, an inner core is positioned between confronting legs of the sheet metal part in an area of holes, and a support bar is inserted through one hole into the sheet metal part for support of a backside of the inner core. A shaping punch is inserted through another opposite hole into the inner core, thereby forming an inwardly directed collar. After retracting the support bar and the shaping punch and transferring the sheet metal part to replace the first inner core with a second inner core, a centering bar is inserted through the collared hole into the sheet metal part to center the sheet metal part in relation to the centering bar and to support a backside of the other inner core. A further shaping punch is then inserted into the second inner core through the first hole, thereby forming an inwardly directed collar so that the two collars are aligned and form through-passages.
