Abstract: Compositions containing soluble B7-H4 (sH4) antagonists in an amount effective to reduce, inhibit, or mitigate an inflammatory response in an individual and methods for the treatment or prophylaxis of inflammatory disorders and autoimmune diseases or disorders are provided. Soluble H4 has been discovered to interfere with B7-H4 activity including B7-H4's activity as an inhibitor of T cell immunity. Thus, interference of sH4 biological activity is an effective method to restore B7-H4 activity and thereby provide an effective method for treating inflammatory diseases or disorders including autoimmune diseases or disorders.

A fluid flow path conveys the liquid continuously from the alkylation process through a first instrument configured for measuring a property of the liquid mixture, and having responsivities to concentration of the components, which are independent of the concentration of the water. A temperature detector generates temperature data for the liquid, and a second instrument measures another property of the liquid mixture. The instruments have mutually distinct responsivities to concentrations of the components.

Abstract: Internal combustion engines which are operated using ethanol exhibit an improved capability for lean-burn running. The lean-burn running limit with a higher ethanol proportion is displaced in the direction of lean. This link between the lean-burn running limit and the ethanol proportion of the fuel is used to determine the ethanol proportion. To determine the lean-burn running limit, a fuel quantity is injected into a cylinder in the operating range of the overrun fuel cut-off, with which fuel quantity no combustion of the air/fuel mixture occurs, and the fuel quantity is increased continuously until combustion occurs; the smooth running of the engine is monitored for this cylinder and the lean-burn running limit is detected as reached if the smooth running exceeds a predefined threshold value. The ethanol proportion is then deduced from the increase in the injected fuel quantity which is required to reach the lean-burn running limit.

To avoid false readings from other species present in the water, the free chlorine is reacted with ammonia to form monochloramine, which is then reacted to form an indophenol or an indonaphthol. • Patent number: 7562562
Abstract: A method and device is provided for detecting a predetermined material. The device includes a first inner layer having first and second surfaces and a volume responsive to a first predetermined stimuli. A second inner layer has first and second surfaces. An adhesive bonds at least a portion of the first surface of the first inner layer to the first surface of the second inner layer with a bonding force. A change in the volume of the first layer generates an elastic force on the adhesive material. As a result, the first inner layer delaminates from the second inner layer in response to the elastic force overcoming the bonding force.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing a synthetic resin mold package at high yield from which package a pair of the surface of an internal device is exposed. A to-be-exposed part of the surface of the internal device composed of an insulating substrate (2) and thin film electrodes (4, 5) and an insulating protective film (6) formed on the substrate is covered with a coating agent (42), and a die pad portion (8) is bonded to the back surface of the internal device. After placing the thus-obtained structure in a mold consisting of a lower mold (46) and an upper mold (48), a pin (50) is inserted into the mold so that the front end of the pin is pressed against the die pad portion (8), thereby keeping the surface of the coating agent (42) pressed against the inner surface of the upper mold (48). Then, a synthetic resin (52) is injected into the mold and cured therein. The thus-obtained resin sealed body is taken out from the mold, and the coating agent (42) is removed from the resin sealed body.

  • Patent number: 7468608
Abstract: A device for detecting at least one substance of a fluid includes at least one piezo-acoustic resonator with at least one piezo layer, an electrode arranged on the piezo-electric layer, at least one other electrode arranged on the piezo-electric layer and a surface section used for sorption of the substance of the fluid. The piezo-electric layer, the electrodes and the surface section are disposed in such a way that electric control of the electrodes leads to an oscillation of the resonator at a resonance frequency which depends upon the amount of the substance which is sorbed on the surface section. The thickness of the pioelectric layer is in the region of 0.5 to 20 ?m and the resonance frequency of the oscillation ranges from 500 MHz to 2 GHz. The device is a mass sensor with a piezo-acoustic high-frequency thin film resonator.

Abstract: The concentration of an anionically charged polymer in an aqueous solution is determined with a thin solid film having a polymer matrix and a cationic dye. A sample of an aqueous solution containing at least one anionically charged polymer to be tested is applied to the film sensor. The absorbance of the film sensor is measured after the sample has been applied. The absorbance of the film sensor is then compared with a calibration curve of the absorbance of samples containing known concentrations of the anionically charged polymers to determine the concentration of anionically charged polymer in the sample.

  • Patent number: 7454958
Abstract: The invention provides devices and methods for acoustically determining the properties of the contents of one or more reservoirs in a plurality of reservoirs. Each reservoir is adapted to contain a fluid. An acoustic radiation generator can be positioned in acoustic coupling relationship to each of the reservoirs. Acoustic radiation generated by the acoustic radiation generator is transmitted through each reservoir to an analyzer. The analyzer is capable of analyzing a characteristic of the transmitted acoustic radiation and optionally correlating the characteristic to a property of the reservoirs' contents. Properties that may be determined include volume, temperature, and composition. The invention is particularly suited to determining the properties of the contents of a plurality of reservoirs to allow for accuracy and control over the dispensing of fluids therefrom.
