  • Patent number: 6857339
Abstract: A wrench structure includes a drive head formed with a receiving chamber and having an end face formed with a direction control recess. The end face of the drive head is formed with a spacing portion. Thus, the spacing portion is continuously extended through the end face of the drive head and is not broken, so that the end face of the drive head is continuously extended through the drive head and is not broken, thereby preventing the stress from being concentrated on the portion between the receiving chamber and the direction control recess of the drive head, such that the structural strength of the drive head can be enhanced.

Abstract: A device for adjusting a shock absorber system. The device includes a handle with a head, where the head defines an engaging member and a ratcheting mechanism cooperative with the engaging member. The engaging member can be coupled to a shock absorber adjustment nut that forms part of the shock absorber system so that upon rotation of the device, the nut is either tightened or loosened. An optional adapter ring can be placed between the engaging member and the shock absorber adjustment nut to allow the device to similarly rotate conventional nuts. The device may further include a hinge between the handle and head to allow the device to fit in tight spaces. In one embodiment, the device may further include a shock absorber adjustment nut that can be used in place of the shock absorber adjustment nut that forms part of the shock absorber system.

  • Patent number: 6799492
Abstract: A ratchet wrench for turning threaded fasteners, particularly fasteners threaded on a stud or pipe located in areas of limited or obstructed access to the fastener. The wrench is operated remotely at an end of the wrench away from a fastener engagement portion. The wrench includes a side mounted actuator assembly which allows a moveable jaw to open and close around the fastener. A closing bias force is maintained on the movable upper jaw by a spring included in the actuator assembly. The closing bias force allows a fastener to be held in position for rotation and when exceeded, allows the movable upper jaw to ratchet around the fastener. The engagement portion of the wrench may be configured with either a hexagonal or dodecahedral shaped opening. When operatively engaged with the fastener, the wrench fully encompasses the fastener to limit slippage.

  • Patent number: 5964129
Abstract: A ratchet wrench includes a handle which has a circular opening in a box end thereof to receive a circular adapter. A grip portion extends from the box end and has an opening that is defined by an upper wall thereof and that extends towards a lower wall to form a proximate abutting wall. A receiving chamber extends in a radial direction relative to a rotating axis of the circular opening between the proximate abutting wall and the circular opening. The adapter is rotatable about the rotating axis, and has an outer rim wall with a toothed surface. A ratchet member is disposed rotatably in the receiving chamber, and has at least one ratchet tooth at one end to be brought into engagement with the toothed surface by the biasing action of a biasing member. When the ratchet member is turned 180 degrees about the radial direction while it is pulled to disengage the ratchet tooth from the toothed surface, the direction of driven rotation of the adapter can be reversed.

  • Patent number: 5960679
Abstract: A ratcheting, open-end wrench concurrently engages more than half the corners of a nub during torquing. In preferred embodiments a wrench has a contacting cavity for receiving and torquing a nut, bolt head or other angularized nub. A chain carries a plurality of teeth about the inner perimeter of the cavity, and the chain is ratcheted so that the teeth move readily in one direction, but can be blocked from moving in the opposite direction. The teeth are arranged on the chain such that the cavity changes shape from an open configuration in which the nub can be received into the cavity, and a closed configuration in which the nub is locked into the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5953966
Abstract: A hand held torque wrench with augmenting means is provided which includes a linkage assembly to join a drive input with an output wrench socket. The linkage assembly consists of a drive link extending from the input socket and coacting with a conversion link extending to a ratchet disposed about the output socket of the device. Rotation of the drive link pivots the conversion link to transfer torque from the input to the output socket. A pawl on the driven link is provided to coact with a ratchet which encircles the output socket. A guide means is disposed in the interior of the housing of the device to coact with the linkage assembly to maintain proper alignment during a torque operation, such that stress and force are substantially reduced or dissipated, if not eliminated, during the operation.

  • Patent number: 5931062
Abstract: A mechanical rectifier efficiently rectifies or converts alternative clockwise and counterclockwise rotation of a main handle or other active driving element into unidirectional rotation of a main shaft. This mechanical rectifier is useful in manual tools such as a "no-waste screwdriver", which eliminates the wasted hand motion inherent in all ordinary hand tools, and in energy-saving devices such as a wave-powered electrical generator. The basic mechanical rectifier includes a shaft, two driving elements, and a reversing mechanism coupling the two driving elements so that they can only rotate in opposite directions. Each of the two driving elements has a separate one-way roller clutch pressed in its bore in proper orientation and riding on the shaft so that, whichever direction a driving element is rotated, it always turns the shaft in the same direction. Therefore, a tool bit at one end of the shaft always serves to tighten a fastener, while a tool bit at the opposite end only serves to loosen a fastener.

  • Patent number: 5893305
Abstract: An improved pistol gripped semi-automatic manually operated screwdriver is provided which provides advantages over conventional semi-automatic pistol gripped screwdrivers. The prior art screwdrivers are generally in the form of a pistol having a handle and a trigger. The trigger is squeezed to activate a sliding rotation actuator mounted on a helically grooved shaft. Pulling the trigger causes the actuator to move along the shaft thereby creating rotation of the shaft as well as a collet or chuck which holds the screwdriver bit. Such prior art devices also include a coiled spring which is adapted to provide a recoil mechanism for the actuator. In the improved device of this invention the screwdriver further includes a ball bearing located in a cup attached to the top of the actuator and a slide slot located within the housing for rolling engagement with a portion of the ball bearing which protrudes into the slot.

Abstract: A battery powered palm ratchet tool including a hemispherical palm grip. The palm grip has an upper body with a gripping ring and an under side interconnected to a stop. The upper body encases a battery and a motor powered by the battery. The upper body has a plurality of teardrop-shaped sections interconnected by a plurality of ridges. The plurality of ridges bulge outwardly beyond the teardrop-shaped sections and create an enhanced gripping surface on the upper body of the palm grip. The palm grip has an axial opening within the upper body and stop for receiving a shaft. The shaft is rotatably mounted within the axial opening and driven by the motor. The shaft is compressible within the axial opening for activating the motor and actuation of the shaft. The palm grip is positioned within one hand of a user for use on torquing an item.

  • Patent number: 5115699
Abstract: A continuous drive ratchet tool apparatus is comprised of drive disks adapted to be connected in driving engagement with a bolt head or nut threaded fastener, a disk housing having an opening extending through the housing and a bearing channel communicating with the opening, one of the drive disks being rotatably received in the opening, and a ball bearing spring biased into engagement between the disk housing opening and the one drive disk. The bearing selectively establishes a continuous driving engagement between the disk housing and the drive disk for rotating a threaded fastener in a first direction by connecting the drive disk to the fastener and rotating the disk housing in the first direction. The bearing then permits the housing to override its connection to the threaded fastener allowing the fastener to remain stationary when the disk housing is rotated in a second direction opposite to the first.
