Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for saving power in a dual mode portable terminal that concurrently supports a cellular network and an unlicensed band network. The method includes, upon disassociating from an in-association Access Point (AP) of an unlicensed band network, measuring a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) from the AP during a predetermined time and calculating an average value of the RSSI; and comparing the calculated average value with a predetermined threshold value and deciding whether to perform a mode conversion between a low power mode and a general mode.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal and text-to-speech method. The mobile communication terminal includes a display unit for displaying at least one object on a screen; a controller for identifying a depth of an activated object on the screen and finding a speech data set mapped to the identified depth; a speech synthesizer for converting textual contents of the activated object into audio wave data using the found speech data set; and an audio processor for outputting the audio wave data in speech sounds. As a result, textual contents of different objects are output in different voices so the user can easily distinguish one object from another object.

Abstract: A method for determining a dedicate searching space (DSS) in a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) for a user equipment (UE) of a wireless communication system is disclosed. The method includes steps of indicating the UE to monitor a semi-persistent scheduling cell radio network temporary identifier (SPS C-RNTI) in the PDCCH for receiving a semi-persistent scheduling grant, and determining the DSS utilized for monitoring the SPS C-RNTI according to a cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) of the UE.

Abstract: Disclosed is an inter-entity coupling method for protecting content in a broadcast environment including a broadcast network and a terminal, the broadcast network having a Broadcast Service Application (BSA), a Broadcast Service Distribution (BSD), and a Broadcast Service Management (BSM), the inter-entity coupling method including performing, by the terminal, a registration process for obtaining a group key for the terminal; after the registration process is completed, performing, by the terminal, a service joining process for requesting service joining, and receiving, by the terminal, a Rights Object (RO) about the content from a message, which is received in response to the request, based on the obtained group key; obtaining a traffic key by using the RO, if a traffic key message is received after the service joining process is completed; receiving encrypted content in the terminal; and decrypting the encrypted content by using the traffic key.

Abstract: A method for requesting presence information from a presence source by a presence server is provided. The method includes receiving, from a presence source, media feature tag value corresponding to presence information published by the presence source, respectively; requesting specific presence information from the presence source using a specific media feature tag value from among the media feature tag values; transmitting a publication rule for controlling publication operation of the presence source; and receiving, from the presence source, the specific presence information published by the presence source, according to the publication rule. Each of the media feature tag value represents a type of presence information published by the presence source.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for channel encoding/decoding in a communication system are provided. The apparatus and the method generate LDPC-encoded blocks with various lengths from an LDPC code with fixed length in a communication system using a Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) code. The apparatus and the method perform shortening using a predetermined number of shortened bits and perform LDPC encoding. The apparatus and the method apply predetermined rules according to the predetermined number of shortened bits and determine the number of bits to be punctured, and perform puncturing based on the determined number of punctured bits.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and an apparatus for recognizing characters using an image. A camera is activated according to a character recognition request and a preview mode is set for displaying an image photographed through the camera in real time. An auto focus of the camera is controlled and an image having a predetermined level of clarity is obtained for character recognition from the images obtained in the preview mode. The image for character recognition is character-recognition-processed so as to extract recognition result data. A final recognition character row is drawn that excludes non-character data from the recognition result data. A first word is combined including at least one character of the final recognition character row and a predetermined maximum number of characters. A dictionary database that stores dictionary information on various languages using the first word is searched, so as to provide the user with the corresponding word.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for improving the reception performance of a Mobile Station (MS) in a multiple antenna system are provided. In an apparatus of a Base Station (BS) in the multiple antenna system, upon receipt of a request for interference cancellation for a first MS serviced by a neighbor BS, a channel estimator estimates a channel from the first MS and a channel from a second MS serviced by the BS. A beam coefficient generator generates a first beam coefficient based on channel estimates of the first and second MSs and a second beam coefficient based on the channel estimate of the second MS. An interference cancellation decider determines whether to perform interference cancellation for the first MS using the first and second beam coefficients.

Abstract: A computer-implemented land planning system is designed to generate at least one conceptual fit solution to a user-defined land development problem. The system electronically creates at least one candidate solution to the land development problem. The candidate solution incorporates a number of engineering measurements applicable in development of an undeveloped land site. A fitness function quantitatively evaluates the candidate solution based on its fitness. A heuristic problem-solving strategy manipulates the engineering measurements of the candidate solution to achieve a more quantitatively fit solution to the land development problem. A computer output device outputs to a user documentation illustrating the fit solution to the land development problem.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving data in a communication system with a plurality of antennas. Data and a first pilot are generated. The first pilot is transmitted at a first position in a frequency domain that corresponds to a position of the generated data in the frequency domain and at a first position in a time domain that is with the generated data, in every transmission time interval of the data. A second pilot is generated. The second pilot is transmitted at predetermined second positions in the time domain and the frequency domain, in a transmission time interval that is predefined by a transmitter and a receiver.

Abstract: A method for handling a Transmission Time Interval (TTI) bundling mode in a user equipment (UE) of a wireless communication system is disclosed. The method includes steps of switching an operation status of the TTI bundling mode; and flushing all uplink Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) buffers in the UE when the operation status of the TTI bundling mode is switched.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing incoming and outgoing call information in a mobile communication terminal. A display unit displays detailed incoming/outgoing call information integrated for a particular phone number. A memory stores an incoming/outgoing call list according to an incoming/outgoing event. A controller controls an operation for adding the detailed incoming/outgoing call information to an associated phone number item of the incoming/outgoing call list when the incoming/outgoing call event occurs, and controls an operation for displaying the detailed incoming/outgoing call information integrated for the particular phone number selected from among phone numbers of the incoming/outgoing call list. The detailed incoming/outgoing call information mapped to the same phone number can be viewed at one time by integrating and providing the incoming/outgoing call information.

Abstract: A method of providing ventilatory support or treatment of sleep disordered breathing, implemented using an electrically operated and computer controlled fan or blower, a gas delivery tube, and an atmospherically vented face mask or nasal prongs. The method, over a single respiratory cycle, includes cycling administered pressure between and including an upper pressure and a lower pressure to a user's airway. The lower pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure and is maintained only for as long as is required to allow the immediately prior administered gas volume to be at least substantially expelled from the user's respiratory system by its elastic recoil. The lower pressure is immediately thereafter returned to the upper pressure.

Abstract: A method for sharing a file between a control point and a media server in a DLNA system, and a system thereof are provided, in which the control point captures a photo, determines a similarity between a facial image included in the captured photo and a facial image file corresponding to at least one media server, compares the similarity with a pre-stored value, and if the similarity is greater than or equal to the pre-stored value, transmits a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) representing a position at which the photo is stored to the media server, and the media server accesses the URI received from the control point and receives the photo using the URI.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for allocating radio resources in a broadband wireless communication system by adaptively grouping the radio resources. In the method, the amount of resources necessary for a transmission of data to a user terminal and the amount of the remaining allocable resources are detected. A resource allocation scheme is selected in consideration of the amount of resources necessary for the transmission of the data to the user terminal and the amount of the remaining resources. A group index of radio resources for the user terminal is determined according to the selected resource allocation scheme. Radio resources corresponding to the determined group index are allocated to the user terminal.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to devices for the real-time tracking of one or more substantially planar geometrical objects of a real scene in at least two images of a video stream for an augmented-reality application. After receiving a first image of the video stream (300), the first image including the object to be tracked, the position and orientation of the object in the first image are determined from a plurality of previously determined image blocks (320), each image block of said plurality of image blocks being associated with an exposure of the object to be tracked. The first image and the position and the orientation of the object to be tracked in the first image define a key image. After receiving a second image from the video stream, the position and orientation of the object to be tracked in the second image are evaluated from the key image (300). The second image and the corresponding position and orientation of the object to be tracked can be stored as a key image.

Abstract: A method is provided for registering a mobile router in an Internet Protocol version 6 over Low power Wireless Personal Area Network (6LoWPAN) network. The mobile router detects movement into a wireless network through the reception of a beacon message, and sends a Router Solicitation (RS) message requesting registration in the wireless network to a gateway. The gateway acquires an address of the mobile router from the RS message, stores the acquired address, assigns a new address to be used in the wireless network to the mobile router, and sends a Router Advertisement (RA) message with assigned address information and gateway address information, to the mobile router. The mobile router acquires the assigned address information and the gateway address information from the RA message.

The method includes dividing the image into a predefined number of regions through a clustering technique; setting a certain area of the regions as a background region; identifying the outer peripheral pixel and inner peripheral pixel of each region except for the background region of the divided regions; setting a region identified as having one of its outer peripheral pixel and its inner peripheral pixel corresponding to a pixel of the background region, as a boundary region; and setting a region identified as having any of its outer peripheral pixel and its inner peripheral pixel not corresponding to a pixel of the background region, as a center text region, and excluding the boundary region from a binary-coding object of the text.
