Abstract: The invention relates to a method for arranging conveyor-transported fragmentary particles into one row or several adjacent rows of individual particles before their removal from the conveyor. According to the invention, the conveying base is divided into two subsequent sections, namely, a vibrating section and a subsequent stabilizing section. In the vibrating section the conveying base and the particles on top of it are brought into a relative motion while the particles are subjected to transversal counter-forces in order to concentrate the particles along a straight line in the longitudinal direction of the conveying base. In the stabilizing section the relative motion of the conveying base and the particles on top of it is stopped in good time before the removal of the particles from the conveyor, so that the particles no longer move in relation to each other when they are being removed from the conveyor. This substantially facilitates the analysis of the particles and their separation from each other.

Abstract: A hingeable segmented pipe coupling includes dual or plural coupling segments which are hingeable relative to each other in the absence of transverse hinge pins, at least one pair of bolting pads including arcuate surfaces which roll with respect to each other, and each of which includes a fulcrum for engagement with a headed securing member associated with those bolting pads. In preferred embodiments, the bolting faces of the bolting pads are contoured to prevent rotational movement of the coupling segments about the axis of the securing member.
Abstract: A retaining collar for an elastomeric seal includes an annulus and a skirt depending from the annulus and which is outwardly flared to promote resilient deformation under axial compressive loading and ovalization of the skirt to bring its free edge into intimate seating engagement with the outer surface of a pipe positioned transverse thereto.
Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of glass articles, mainly glass bottles, said glass articles are strengthened by an ion exchange method, which involves exchanging alkali metal ions from the surface of said glass articles by other alkali metal ions provided by an ion exchange medium applied to the surface of said glass articles, which provides a strengthening layer in the surface of said glass articles. This ion exchange method is greatly improved by supporting said glass articles on a grounded metallic conveyor; charging electrostatically an ion exchange medium; and spraying a flow of said electrostatically charged ion exchange medium on said glass articles, in the line of production before the stage of article thermal treating. This promotes a uniform application of the ion exchange medium in the surface of said articles.
Abstract: An elastomeric seal for incorporation into a pipe coupling includes a fire-ring which acts to retain a residual portion of a radial flange of the seal in sealing relationship with the pipe ends in the event of thermal destruction of the remainder of the seal.
Abstract: A convertible garment, such as a jacket, tunic or vest, includes a pouch concealed between inner and outer rear walls of the garment, and which can be withdrawn through an aperture in the inner rear wall of the garment for the pouch to be employed as a carrying bag for the garment when the garment is apropriately folded, the carrying bag provided by the pouch having an internal volume in excess of the volume of the garment when appropriately folded and stored within the carrying bag provided by the inverted pouch.
Abstract: A plumbing fitting is formed integrally with a quick connect coupling, the coupling having a recessed shank portion permitting a locknut and a gasket receiving collar to be assembled onto a threaded shank of the coupling by passing them over a saddle of the coupling the plumbing fitting being connected to a pipe wall by the clamping cooperation between the saddle and collar.

Abstract: This invention relates to isoprenylamine derivatives and acid addition salts thereof, which compounds are useful for controlling virus infection of vertebrate animals.
Abstract: A swivel joint for pipes includes a split collet carried by a male portion of the coupling, and which provides an abutment for a threaded annular nut carried by a female member of the coupling, the nut being lockable in its adjusted position, the male member being rotatable within the female member to provide for swivelling of the joint.
Abstract: An aquatic scrubbing device for attachment to an underwater ferro-magnetic surface incorporates a carriage, at least two independently energizable electromagnets supported by the carriage for rotation about mutually parallel axes, and at least one drive motor for rotating the electromagnets relative to the carriage, whereby alternative energization of the electromagnets and the drive motors will cause a walking motion of the carriage when attached to the ferro-magnetic surface, the device incorporating rotatable scrubbers for removing aquatic growths from that surface.
Abstract: A reel for electric fence wire is formed from electrically insulative material and is supported for rotation between electrically conductive arms of a grounding stake, the reel containing an energizer which is grounded through an electrically conductive shaft which extends axially through one end of the reel to provide a journal bearing for the reel, the shaft being in electrical continuity with the associated arm of the grounding stake, and extending axially into engagement with a grounding electrode of the energizer, thus eliminating a requirement for slip rings.
Abstract: A kit of gaskets comprises at least one piece (10) of gasket forming material, preferably of the "dry joint" grade, which piece includes gasket parts (1) and packaging parts (2). Cuts (4) separate the gasket parts (1) from the packaging parts (2). The cuts (4) do not extend around the gasket peripheries but terminate so as to define interconnecting regions (6). At least two of the gasket parts may define segments (14, 16) each having a dovetail projection (12) or recess (14) adapted for engagement with one another. The bolt holes are formed by removing the pips of material from the piece.
Abstract: Means for locating door locking assemblies of freight containers comprises a backing member including a portion of generally plate-like form adapted to be secured, preferably by welding, to the door of the container, the front surface of the backing member being shaped to receive therein part of the circular section of the locking bar of the assembly. The means further comprises a saddle bracket having a body portion of generally U-shape to seat over the bar and to define, with the shaped front surface of the backing member, a substantially cylindrical guide channel for the locking bar. The free edges of the bracket are secured, preferably by welding, to the backing member at regions remote from the door.
Abstract: A method of recording and reproducing a line sequential color video signal comprising the steps of converting the reproduced two separate line sequential color difference signals into simultaneous color difference signals, subjecting two separate carriers to balanced modulation by said simultaneous color difference signals to provide simultaneous carrier color difference signals, mixing the simultaneous carrier color difference signals delayed by one horizontal scanning period with those not delayed, and combining the resultant signals with a luminance signal delayed by one horizontal scanning period during recording or reproduction of the video signal.
Abstract: Pressure responsive, volume-controlled drip irrigation apparatus including a drip irrigation element defining a volume control region having a peripheral edge surface along at least part of the periphery thereof, there being disposed along a side of the volume control region a first surface of a flexible membrane, whose second surface communicates with a source of pressurized water, a flow restricting pathway having an inlet communicating with the source of pressurized water and an outlet communicating with the volume control region, and a water outlet communicating with the volume control region at the peripheral edge surface thereof.
Abstract: The fluoran compounds of the formula (I) are new red color forming chromogenic dyes. ##STR1## wherein R represents an isobutyl or isopentyl group, R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, R.sub.3 represents a hydrogen atom, and R.sub.4 represents a hydrogen atom, or R.sub.4 and R.sub.1 as well as R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 taken together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached may form a benzene ring which may be substituted with a halogen atom.
