Abstract: A locking device is provided to prevent pilferage of a compact disc from within a storage cassette, the locking device including a locking plate which is positionable over the disc and which is locked to a circular array of spring fingers of the cassette providing a support for the compact disc.
Abstract: A packaging method and apparatus are disclosed in which a substantially horizontal bed is loaded with a series of independent magazines. Each of the magazines supports a plurality of open trays which are loaded with the desired contents. The magazines are moved along the bed to a vacuum chamber where a cover film is applied and the magazines are independently supported. The vacuum chamber is then closed to allow for evacuation and sealing of the covered trays and the magazines supporting the finished packages are removed from the vacuum chamber.
Abstract: An automatic white balance adjusting system for a color video camera employs a high luminance part of the luminance signal to control automatic gain controllers for the red and blue components of the signals.
Abstract: An apparatus for removing a photo-resist covering from a substrate employs fine solid CO.sub.2 particles that are impacted on the substrate at high velocity to cause abrading of the photo-resist covering in the absence of damage or contamination of the substrate.

Abstract: A rotary magnetic sheet apparatus for recording and reproducing still picture information on and from a magnetic recording medium in the form of a magnetic sheet comprises a drive motor causing rotation of a magnetic sheet mounted at its center core on a drive shaft of the motor, a center-core pressing member disposed opposite to the drive shaft on the side nearer to the center core than the drive shaft so as to press the center core onto the drive shaft, and a member or members for mechanically connecting a movable part of the actuating switch to the center-core pressing member to cause operation of the center-core pressing member in response to manipulation of the actuating switch.
Abstract: An automatic transmission system for a vehicle which is so arranged that a medium speed ratio is first achieved and then a low speed ratio is achieved when the speed ratio is to be shifted from a high speed ratio immediately to the low speed ratio, in which, when the vehicle is running in the high speed ratio of the transmission and a selector lever is set to a position instructing a shift to the low speed ratio expecting an engine braking effect (speed reduction feeling), a hydraulic pressure to provide the same speed reduction feeling as obtained from the engine braking effect in the low speed ratio is supplied to the frictional engaging element to achieve the medium speed ratio, during a shift from the high speed ratio to the medium speed ratio.
Abstract: A controllable valve adapted to be fixed in the wall of a storage hopper containing particulate materials and operable to dispense an air blast into the interiors of the hopper to loosen the materials in the region of the valve.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are saturated and unsaturated aliphatic acids and esters of formula R--Z as defined in the specification which are antiulcer agents.
Abstract: There is described a method for treating glass to prevent sweating thereof, forming a container the opening of which should be sealingly closed by a lid fitted at least in that area thereof contacting the glass, with a layer from a polymer able to insure said lid adhering to said glass, for insuring preserving the product contained in said container, which method comprises laying at least over that container area bounding the opening thereof and contacting said lid, a continuous layer from ceramic enamel, and a container treated according to said method.
Abstract: In a pressing machine for the manufacture of glass articles, which comprises, a base; a gyratory table composed of mold supporters equidistantly laid out around the table, thereby carrying the molds from one station to the next as the table gyrates intermittently, said table comprising a number of stations, among which are stations of charging, stations for pressing and cooling articles, extracting stations and stations for the cooling of the molds, wherein such stations includes a series of mechanisms; means to drive the rotating table coupled to said table to rotate the same; and a feeder in combination with said machine which provide a gob of glass to the station of charging by each cycle of the machine, a method and an apparatus is provided to controlling the cycle of operation of the machine and the operation of the diverse mechanisms including: a sensor to determine the instant in which a gob of glass is cut from said feeder and position sensors to detecting the real position of the diverse mechanisms o

Abstract: A mixture of the synthetic peptide compounds of the formulas:Try-Gly-Gly-Pro-Ala-Asn-Lys-Lys-Asn-Ala-Gly-OH, Formula (I)Asp-Glu-Leu-Glu-Ala-Glu-Thr-Gln-Asn-Val-Tyr-Ala-Ala-NH.sub.2, Formula (II)andTyr-Ser-Leu-Phe-Gln-Lys-Glu-Lys-Met-Val-Leu-NH.sub.2, Formula (III)and compositions thereof, induces antibodies against the late stages of Plasmodium falciparum malaria and provides protection against infection with this parasite, thus providing a synthetic malaria vaccine for Plasmodium falciparum induced malaria.
Abstract: An automatic framing device for photographic use for recording a video signal representing a photographic image on a recording medium by taking the photographic image by a video camera, having control means for detecting edges along X-Y coordinates of the photographic image placed on a table having an X-Y plane and driving the table so that the center of the photographic image is in line with the optical axis of a zoom lens of the video camera, and adjusting the zoom lens so that the entire photographic image is reproduced within a television screen.
Abstract: A shift control for an automatic countershaft type transmission includes a memory device which stores a plurality of maps representing optimum speed ratios for various vehicle conditions. The control selects from the maps based on the speed of the vehicle, the position of the accelerator pedal and on the state of operation of a brake. The control further determines whether the position of a shift lever corresponds to the optimum gear ratio obtained from the selected map. The transmission is shifted to the optimum gear ratio when the shift lever doesn't correspond to the optimum gear ratio position.
Abstract: A sewing machine automatically sews a seam which ends at a desired point. The last n stitches, preferably the last two stitches, are of substantially equal length. A counter counts pulses while the work is being fed to the needle. The machine detects when the trailing edge of the work passes by a predetermined location ahead of the needle. Upon such detection, the contents of the counter are used to calculate the proper stitch pitch for the last two stitches. The stitch pitch is varied as necessary during sewing of the last two stitches in the seam.
Abstract: Apparatus for sensing distances in air by transmitting an ultrasonic pulse and measuring the time for return of an echo from a target object is characterized by ability to measure distances to multiple target objects. Preferably the apparatus defaults by displaying the distance to the nearest target but is provided with a push button which when pressed once causes display of the distance to the next target further away, when pressed again causes display of distance to a target after that and so forth. This novel function may be accomplished by discrete logic components or using a microprocessor.
Abstract: Organoboron nitride polymers are produced by polymerization of organoboron nitride compounds having a cyclic structure of the formula (XBNR).sub.3 wherein R represents hydrogen, a saturated or unsaturated alkyl group or an aryl group and X represents a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group or a silylamino group in the presence of at least one of amine compounds of the formula R.sup.1 NH.sub.2 and amine compounds of the formula R.sup.1 NHR.sup.2 wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 which may be the same or different individually represent an alkyl, aryl or silyl group. The organoboron nitride polymers are suitable as a raw material for the production of boron nitride and as a binder for boron nitride powders.
