  • Patent number: 4911259
Abstract: A running control method and a running control system for a vehicle to control the engine output according to the effects of slope, wind, and change in vehicle weight, in which a reference traction force is determined as the sum of a mechanism friction, an acceleration force, and an air drag, the difference between an actually measured total traction force an the reference traction force is determined to obtain an environmental effect value. The environmental effect value represents an increase or decrease in traction force with respect to that in a flat, windless road for a standard vehicle weight. A throttle valve or a fuel injection control governer is feedback-controlled according to the environmental effect value, thereby improving the control response.

  • Patent number: 4907814
Abstract: A self-adjusting bearing comprises an elongate body portion of compressible, resilient material of truncated conical shape with a central cylindrical bore formed therethrough. A plurality of independent segments of wear-resistant material are secured to the inner surface of the body portion to form a liner adapted to make bearing contact with a component received within the bore. The segments are each of arcuate transverse section, the side edges of adjacent segments being spaced from one another and the arrangement being such that, on location of the bearing in an associated, correspondingly-tapered bore whereby the body portion is radially compressed, the radial forces established within the body portion urge the segments of the liner into bearing contact with the component within the bore of the body portion.

  • Patent number: 4907796
Abstract: An alpine ski simulator for reproducing the basic corporal movements involved in downhill skiing, comprising a frame which may be set at different angles relative to the horizontal plane, and a handrail for equilibrium purposes. A rotatable platform, horizontally mounted on the frame through a central shaft has roller means set between the platform and the frame to ease the rotation. A fixed band encircling the platform, guided between two pairs of posts, and connected to the frame, is provided for braking purposes. Adjustable means are attached between the band and the frame to increase or reduce the tension of the band against the platform and thus, vary the rotational speed of the platform.

  • Patent number: 4899830
Abstract: A cutting tooth assembly for heavy duty earth working machines has a replaceable cutting point comprised of a length of metal bar of constant transverse cross-section, which is frictionally held on a shank by a reusable holding clamp and which is repositionable on the shank. A used length of the metal bar is welded to an unused length of metal bar or to another used length of metal bar, thus permitting the entire length of the cutting point material to be utilized, thus limiting discarded scrap to a minimum and reducing operation costs.
