  • Patent number: 4854807
Abstract: An adaptor for a hook-lift vehicle provided with a hydraulically-operated lifting mechanism on its chassis to load and unload freight containers having conventional corner fittings, the adaptor comprising an adaptor frame for attachment to the lifting mechanism and including releasable securing members for co-operation with the end corner fittings of a container to secure the frame to the container, and a pair of pivotal, laterally-spaced support surfaces for location one to each side of the rear end of the chassis whereby, subsequent to securing the adaptor frame to the front of a container on the ground and on actuating the lifting mechanism, the front of the container is drawn upwardly onto the chassis until the outer lower side regions of the container engage the support surfaces, continued actuation of the lifting mechanism drawing the container over the pivoting surfaces and onto the chassis.

  • Patent number: 4850317
Abstract: An intake port device comprises an intake port (9) formed by a straight part (13) and a helical part (15), and a valve (17) disposed adjacent to the inlet of the intake port. In order that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied to an engine without being encountered with a large resistance even in a light-loaded condition of the engine, the valve (17) is held in its closed position without causing any sharp decrease in the coefficient of intake air flow when closed. In a modification of the intake port device, the valve (17) holds open the lower half of the intake port 9 in its closed position, so that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied without being encounted with a large resistance even when the load of the engine is light. In another modification of the intake port device, the free end of the valve (17) is bent and deformed in the downstream direction of intake air so that the flow of intake air may not be encountered with a large resistance.

  • Patent number: 4846717
Abstract: Continuous thermal treatment for the strengthening of metallic workpieces is carried out by placing a batch of at least two workpieces on a basket hinged on a continuously advancing conveyor chain; introducing said workpieces in said basket through a first instantaneously opening and closing gate into a uniformly heated first thermal treating step wherein the continuously advancing workpieces are heated at a temperature of about 560.degree. C.; introducing the heated workpieces in said basket through a second instantaneously opening and closing gate into a second thermal treatment step placed immediately after the end of the first step and in communication therewith, by lifting a vat containing a cooling fluid to immerse said workpieces in said basket into the cooling fluid of said vat to rapidly cooling said workpieces to a temperature of about 100.degree. C. and thereafter lowering said vat.

  • Patent number: 4841129
Abstract: A scanning device for reading bar codes symbols comprising at least two moveable, preferably rotatably driven, reflective surfaces, such as mirrors, which direct a light source, preferably from a laser, in a scanning pattern towards the object to be scanned. At least one of said reflective surfaces having an associated lens means to modify the light beam associated with its reflective surface, and means adapted to move each of said reflective surfaces and the associated lens into a path adapted to intersect with said beam of light. Means are provided to direct the beam of light outside the scanning device as a sweep beam onto the bar code symbol to be read and optical means and sensing means are provided to collect the light reflected from the bar code symbol and generate data therefrom.
