Abstract: A rigid coupling for plain ended pipe includes radially inwardly movable wedging members of a hard but ductile material, which optionally may be in the form of a collet, and a member providing a camming surface corresponding with an external camming surface on each of the wedging members, the wedging members each having an axially straight inner surface for cooperation with the external axial surface of a pipe, the inner surface of the wedging members being coated with a grit material of a hardness greater than that of the pipe and that of the wedging members, for it to become matrixed within the respective surfaces on the application of compressive forces to the wedging members.

Abstract: Compounds are described of formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a dialkylamino group or a halogen atom; n is 1 to 4; R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted aminoalkyl group, an acyl group, an unsubstituted or substituted aralkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, an alkoxycarbonyalkyl group or ##STR2## wherein X is an unsubstituted or substituted-phenyl, -benzyl, -benzoyl or -furoyl group; A is -NR.sup.3 - where R.sup.3 is hydrogen or alkyl, an alkylene or an alkylidene; and B is a heterocyclic group selected from triazolyl, pyridyl, pyridazinyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazinyl, benzimidazolyl, benzothiazolyl, quinolyl and isoquinolyl, said heterocyclic group being optionally substituted by one or more alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or phenyl group, and the physiologically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. The compound of formula (I) are or cardiotonic activity and thus may be useful for the treatment of circulatory diseases.

Abstract: A surgical suction tip comprises a tubular body portion with a hollow tip portion at one end communicating into the body portion, and a cap portion releasably closing the other end, a tubular connecting portion mounted externally on the cap portion communicating through the cap portion into the body portion. A hollow filter member within the body portion defines an annular chamber between the filter member and the body portion and communicating with the tubular connecting portion through the cap portion, a plurality of apertures in the filter member connecting the interior of the filter member with the annular chamber. The body portion has locating means thereon locating one end of the filter member within the body portion, while the other end of the filter member is closed. Waste material flows from the tip portion into the hollow interior of the filter member and then to the annular chamber and to the tubular connecting portion.

Abstract: A slat for use in the assembly of a Venetian blind is provided with a light and sound absorptive coating on at least one of its major surfaces produced by flocking, applique, or textile weaving techniques, a preferred embodiment of the invention providing a strip having enhanced resistance to slippage of a coating appliqued to the strip and of a textile encapsulation of the strip in directions laterally and longitudinally of the strip.

Abstract: A power transmission apparatus for a four-wheel drive vehicle has a first rotary shaft for transmitting drive force to front wheels of the vehicle, a second rotary shaft for transmitting drive force to rear wheels of the vehicle, and a hydraulic pump connecting the first and second rotary shafts and driven by a difference in rotational speed between the first and second rotary shafts to deliver hydraulic oil in an amount depending on the difference in rotational speed. A suction passage and a delivery passage is changed over in dependence on relative rotational direction of the first and second rotary shafts. An expansion chamber communicates with the suction passages and delivery through a restriction to temporarily suppress an increase in pressure of hydraulic oil delivered from the hydraulic pump, thereby suppressing transmission of a drive force by the hydraulic pump when the variation in relative rotation speed between the first and second rotary shafts is small.

Abstract: A burner which is suitable for use in combusting pulverized coal and which can be used as an igniter for igniting the main burners in steam raising plant. The burner has an electrically powered torch which generates a continuous plasma which extends into a devolatilization zone of the burner, and primary conduits are provided for directing a primary supply of dense phase pulverized coal into the devolatilization zone. The burner is constructed also to include a combustion zone which surrounds the devolatilization zone. The burner is constructed also to include a comubstion zone which surrounds the devolatilization zone, and secondary conduits are provided for directing a secondary supply of pulverized coal into the combustion zone along with a supply of combustion supporting air.

C. to -40.degree. C. The oil medium is characterized by the absence of surfactant which can catalyze ice formation and is an immobile gel at the storage temperature.
