  • Patent number: 4297022
Abstract: A liquid crystal light pipe display for direct imaging onto photosensitive materials, having a non-conductive, transparent first sheet and a non-conductive substantially opaque second sheet, each having substantially planar inner and outer surfaces. The non-conductive sheets are disposed adjacent to one another with their inner surfaces opposing one another in spaced-apart relationship separated by a sealed-in, normally transparent, liquid crystal material. The non-conductive sheets each have a transparent conductive electrical coating disposed on their inner surface, of a plurality of discrete character forming segments with means connected thereto for electrically coupling said segments to an external power source. The second non-conductive sheet has a plurality of discrete transparent light pipes formed therethrough, each of which are aligned with one of said character forming segments.

  • Patent number: 4296294
Abstract: A method and apparatus for drying and setting the adhesive on the backs of books contained in book blocks or similar articles by vaporizing the water using high frequency RF energy. The books are generally mounted in clamps and moved on a conveyor from the input of the book binding machine through a ventilation system to its output. A high frequency RF field is disposed along the conveyor and has a plurality of spaced apart RF electrodes wherein the electrodes adjacent to the input and output are more closely spaced together than those in the center of the machine so that the energy of the high frequency RF field can be varied in an inverse proportional relationship to the dielectric loss factor of the adhesive layer during the drying cycle.

  • Patent number: 4287568
Abstract: A solid state music player for reproducing and playing stored digital information from a magnetic bubble-memory device, which has a magnetic bubble-memory module for receiving the bubble-memory device which contains the stored program. There is also a function-timing generator, which is coupled to the magnetic bubble-memory module for generating control and timing signals for the module. A microprocessor is connected to a bubble-memory controller which in turn is coupled to the function-timing generator, and the bubble-memory controller responds to commands from the microprocessor to send control signals to the function-timing generator, necessary to access the digital data stored in the bubble-memory device. A digital-to-analog converter is coupled to the microprocessor for converting the digital stream of information from the microprocessor into analog signals, which then can be played through loudspeakers or on a video screen to reproduce the stored digital information from the bubble-memory device.

  • Patent number: 4283242
Abstract: An apparatus and process for cementing semiconductor discs onto a carrier ate, wherein after the carrier plate is coated with a layer of adhesive substance, the discs are applied to the adhesive layer and a vacuum-tight sealing dome is placed over the carrier plate to define a sealed, hollow space. A chemically-inert elastic diaphragm is clamped within the dome 0.2 to 1.5 mm above the free surface of the discs, to divide the hollow space into two sections or subchambers which are initially simulataneously evacuated. Then, air pressure is applied to the upper section, so that the discs are pressed by the diaphragm onto the cement layer. Air pressure is then subsequently fed to the lower hollow space, so that the dome can be removed from the carrier plate.

  • Patent number: 4280704
Abstract: A naval warfare board game apparatus is provided which consists of two sets of two grids or pegboards, each having a 10.times.10 grid pattern of peg holes, and one of which is a minefield grid and the other of which is a tracking grid. Each player hides his set from view of the other player and sets out 17 pegs, representing mines, on his minefield grid, without disclosing their position to his opponent. The first player then moves pegs representing his fleet of seventeen ships from a starting corner position on his tracking grid and attempts to cross the board to an opposite corner representing a "victory" position. During the voyage, if a player's fleet hits one of his opponents mines, his fleet is stopped and the other player then takes his turn and moves his fleet from the starting position. When, and if, the second player hits a mine the play reverts to the first player and he recharts his course from the position just prior to hitting the mine to continue on his voyage to the victory position.
