  • Patent number: 5742213
Abstract: A transformer circuit disclosed performs wideband impedance transformation (matching) and can be used for voltage step-up and step-down applications. The circuit disclosed is comprised of two transmission line transformers and two reactive impedances that compensate the circuit for impedance versus frequency. The circuit disclosed performs a very wideband impedance ratio of 1:9. The circuit may have different turns ratios for transformers T1 and T2 and different values for reactive impedances Z1 and Z2 to accommodate rational, fractional and integer values of transformation up to an impedance ratio of 16:1. Incorporation of a balun in the second transformer provides balanced output.

  • Patent number: 5732582
Abstract: Apparatus and method is disclosed for forming a variety of shapes and sizes of shaped structural members. The apparatus and method includes a first portion on a traveling plate having successive sets of opposed upper and lower roller sections arranged so that the roller sections of one side are adjustable to the roller sections of the other side to partially form the sheet member and cut the member to a selected length. A second portion has successive sets of upper and lower rollers and also has movable roller sections along one side for adjustability. Adjustable entry guides in the front portion establish the lip dimension. The front portion is reoriented relative to the rear portion to establish flange height and the rear portion position determines the web width. Separate drive motors are provided for the first and second portions that are synchronized in operation by using hydraulic motors and hydraulic controls.

  • Patent number: 5720144
Abstract: A metal beam with a thermal break between opposite sides and method of making is disclosed. In a first embodiment a huck rivet extends through aligned holes in a pair of opposed beam sections having a base wall portion and a side wall portion. In a second embodiment a punch/swedge operation forms a rivet in the base wall portion of one beam section that extends through the other base wall portion of the other beam section. In a third embodiment a series of spaced, alternating tabs and recesses are formed in the beam section and the tabs overlap and are riveted at overlapping tabs only to form a gap in the formed beam. In a fourth embodiment oppositely opening hooks are formed in the inner sections of first and second beam sections that interfit and are seamed together to fasten the two beam sections with a continuous seam along the center of a composite beam.

  • Patent number: 5691510
Abstract: A tension scale device particularly suitable for measuring pan tension on a leghold trap. The device comprises a housing with a slot and an open front end, a compression member preferably a spring in the housing, and a movable member having a rear portion that telescopes in the housing and a front portion that extends beyond the front end of the housing. The spring is compressed by moving the movable member into the housing. A scale is provided on the movable member together with a slidable indicator. When the front end of the movable member is pressed onto a trap pan or like tension member being measured, the scale indicates the amount of weight or tension being applied to a tension device.

  • Patent number: 5688095
Abstract: A building and method and apparatus for making a building at a job-site location is disclosed. The roof, side walls and end walls are made of similar skin and frame panels that are roll-formed on the job site, cut to length, have holes formed therein and are crimped to form bends in the roof and side wall panels to form interfitting portions at the corner of the roof and side walls. The panels are placed on a framing jig and seamed at connecting flanges and gussets are secured at inside corners to form a roof and side wall building section. These building sections may be a single skin panel and frame panel or multiples thereof. A multiple of two is shown. A roof truss may be fastened to the roof section for wider buildings. The framing jig is adjustable in size and shape to form buildings of different heights and widths. The framing jig shown is lifted by actuating hydraulic cylinders and a formed building section is seamed to a previously raised building section.

  • Patent number: 5675478
Abstract: An oscillator voltage regulator includes a substantially constant voltage device in series with the bias network dividing resistors to reduce current flow and provide a substantially constant voltage drop, and an impedance connected between the first and second resistors of the dividing resistors and the tank circuit and the base of the amplifier transistor so as to reduce the loading on the tank circuit and so as to improve stability, reduce phase noise, and increase power output from the amplifier. The use of a silicon PN junction and a NPN transistor provides temperature compensation for hot and cold ambients to allow the oscillator to operate with substantially a constant supply current.

  • Patent number: 5660012
Abstract: A frame assembly and method of making includes forming a series of pairs of aligned, inwardly extending markings in the form of detents or holes at selected positions in opposed track side walls preferably before forming the sheet metal into the U-shape profile, providing aligned holes at selected positions in end portions of each stud, inserting the end portion of the stud inside a track so each marking is in an adjacent hole of the aligned pairs of holes and markings, and punching through the markings into each hole to form a hollow stem that draws the end of the stud into the track and the end of the stud against the top surface of the base wall of the track, brings the centers of the holes and markings in alignment to positively fasten each stud to each track. A further step may include flaring or flattening the open end of the stem to a selected angle to form a rivet head.

  • Patent number: 5617619
Abstract: A rivet fastening apparatus and method for joining two pieces by forming a rivet from the material of the pieces. First and second dies are used and the second die is moved into the first die to form a punched out hole and circumferentially spaced tabs in the pieces. The position of the dies are reversed relative to the pieces and the second die is advanced into the first die a second time so that a portion of the second die gives a radially outward direction to the tabs and another portion of the second die flattens the tabs against one another and against an outer face of one of the pieces to form a rivet head. One second die is shaped to form a round hole and four tabs and another second die forms a triangular hole with three tabs. Another embodiment has a punch rod in the first die that forms a smaller hole that is enlarged by a second die with a center through hole that receives the punch rod.

  • Patent number: 5551272
Abstract: Roll forming apparatus is disclosed for making half-round gutters and the like includes a series of initial forming stations that roll form a partially formed curved bottom wall, and opposed front and rear walls with a conventional ogee curve and head in the front wall and a hook in the back wall. An adjustably positionable side roller assembly receives the gutter body and while completing the head grips the head and moves the front wall and associated top edge toward the opposite rear wall and associated top edge. A hook forming assembly opposite the side forming assembly balances and stabilizes the gutter body and turns the top edge of the back wall toward the front wall. Two over bending stations after the side roller assembly and hook forming assembly grip the head and hook and overbend the bottom wall to a smaller radius and the opposed walls past a parallel position so the resiliency causes the bottom and opposed walls to spring back to a desired size and shape in the finally formed half-round gutter.

  • Patent number: 5499428
Abstract: A flush hinge for pivotally connecting a door to an adjacent wall wherein first and second hinge members are connected by a pintle to move about a pivot axis. The pivot axis is substantially centered in the width dimension of each of the first and second knuckle portions and an inside face of each knuckle portions forms a stop face for the door or wall to position them inside the pivot axis so the ends of the hinge members remain in close proximity as the first hinge member moves. The first and second hinge members have a tongue and groove fitting and stop faces that abut to hold the hinge member in both open and closed positions. In a first embodiment the pivot axis is substantially centered between adjacent edges of the door and walls with an inner face of the hinge being in the same plane as the door and wall to fill a gap therebetween.
